Ivan Maric

I don't care if Ivan isn’t a good tap ruckman, he is an aggressive ruckman. Something we have needed for a while..
We could have had this solution with big Angus but unfortunately he plays like a pussy cat and avoids any contact. Hopefully somebody at the club can change this and you might see something special in the big pussy cat!.

Nice one-armed unco missed mark in the backline 2nd half against Hawthorn by Graham makes Maric look a star.

Hmmmm... didn't look good. Not the first time we've seen that.

Big Troy was ok until 2009. In fact he was quite good at times. I even recall one year in the lead-up to a match v Port where Wallar$e came out and said Simmonds v Lade was a "showdown for AA ruckman spot" or some such hyperbollocks. He & Foley pretty much won us the "Bowden Behinds" game v the Bummers in 2008 too IIRC.

Maric was really good again tonight. Not only did he beat Griffen in the hit outs and around the ground, his physical presence was very strong.

What I like about him is that even when he loses a tap he makes the opposition ruck man pay. He understands violence.

pretty sure griffen was limping at half time. maric smasheinto him at the centre square bounces,

the conspiracy theorist in me thinks thats why they rested sandilands, they new maric would be trying to impress and didnt want the big evaaan smashing into their great white hope

Classic Col made me laugh !

gee he is our best ruckman by a mile

Tough and courageous and can mark
Correct. I am so used to seeing our rucks clunk everything I was genuinely surprised to see him simply hold onto marks.

Having a big strong physical ruckman is something that I am just not used to seeing.

Maric’s ruckwork and ability to compete when the ball hits the ground is fantastic. I didn’t think he would be a mobile pack marking threat but last night he showed he can.

I really want to see what he can do with Cotchin, Foley and Martin at his feet. This week against Geelong will be a really good test.

But Maric is already a %200 upgrade on what he have had for the past 3 years.

Maric is at an interesting stage in his career.

I still think that he is a class below the really good ruckmen such as Jolly, Sandilands, Cox etc and that he will struggle against them. What has been interesting about his limited performances this year is that he at least broke even with Goldstein and Bailey, if anything, he managed to shade them slightly. Last night he came up against a second tier ruckman in Griffen and made him look silly.

He is reminding me of Jolly circa 2004-5 when he started at Sydney, essentially caught somewhere between ranks of second tier ruckmen and A-graders, better than one group but not quite competitve with the other.

I suspect that this year he will dominate against teams that go in with junior/back up ruckmen but may struggle otherwise.

Should he be able to even partially replicate Jolly's progress over the next two seasons we will be very pleased.

Impressed with the mullet so far. What we lacked is a big ruckman with a presence. Angus Graham has played like a big girl for most of his career. The ruck situation should have been adressed a long time ago.

agree tot

big man is eevan, and not afraid to throw his weight around, not sure he is as mobile as Jolly, but if he protects our young developing midfield and at least breaks even most weeks, we have had a huge win, especially when you way up what he cost us, pick 30 odd , from memory.

A bit like Jamar last year ?

I hope Julius keeps his performance up. It's going to give our mids a much easier time out here.

Excellent call. Someone said the same thing last night.

Do you mean an easier timer than Gus has given them?

I hope you're not conceding here Baloo.
