Ivan Maric

Let's be honest. What are the chances of seeing Ivan running around in the twos? Zilch.

Ivan is if nothing else an honest man.
And I think he'll be the first to admit that father time has caught up.
The extended bench may mean he can play as our number 2 ruck next year. If so, I think Ivan will accept it.

Trent Cotchin has drawn a lot of criticism for his performances in our past three finals. Fair enough. He was sh!thouse in two of them and is our captain. Of course his opponent wasn't influential.

Ivan has been sh!thouse in the three finals. And his opponent has been very good or usually a match winner. Watch Warnock's domination after half time in 2013. Have a good look at the clearances Gibbs and Judd get and how they start. Then Port. Then Goldstein. Check the cause of their clearance domination.

Who was really BOG on Sunday? Wasn't it Goldstein?

In the case of Cotchin we can say that at least his opponent wasn't BOG (or influential) and that he's a young captain and that he'll learn. What we can say of Ivan is that he's a nice guy.

What we know is that we need a ruckman who can at least nullify a topline ruckman.
!3 possessions is BOG? Really? Think Harvey and Waite may have an argument there, Dyer. In the meantime what do we do with Ivan? Should we just let him go as he obviously of no further use.

All true unfort brother.

You sound very emotionally attached. Maric has been one of my favourite players. I haven't seen many give more than they can give but Maric does. But we have to take on reality head on. Against the teams with the best ruckmen we have been smashed in the middle. Maric is another year older, his crash n bash style takes its toll. We must look for another bonafide ruckman in this year's draft or we will be toast next year. As others have mentioned with the removal of the substitute, the 2nd tall ruckman will become more favoured again. There is still an important role for Maric but #1 ruckman it is not.

Natanui, Goldspunk, Sandi, Mummy, Jacobs... We're behind the eight-ball in finals this year and Ivan and Hampson will only offer less next year.

We have to act now or we'll be in the same place next Septmber or earlier.

the problem is, there are not that many afl rucks that are much good

Some post EF comment from Hardwick suggests to me that Maric's future is in some doubt.. At least as the number 1 ruck.
Coach put a lot of trust in his warrior to compete with Goldstein but he came up well short.
Change is on the way..

Who have we got to replace him with Oldie? Hampson is a spud and we'd be even worse off if we have to play him.

Dimma said last night that we didn't really consider Kreuzer as he is no bigger that Maric or Vickery; pretty sure he went on to say that if we were going to go after a ruckman then he would need to be bigger than what we currently have.

Who's out there? Leuenberger? 3-4 years ago I would have said yes but now he's no better than what we have.

Ivans cousin? he's a bit of a large unit isn't he? not ready yet, but anyway...

Not before time.

A few years ago I compared Ivvy to the (literal as well as literary) workhorse Boxer, from Animal Farm. He bought in, he worked hard, he led by example. And when he could give no more, it was off to the glue factory, no sentiment. We don't have to send Ivvy to the glue factory. We should play him in the twos.

Who's gonna ruck in his place Spook? Don't say Hampson; he is useless. Greatest waste of $900K and 3 years in the history of mankind.

Unless we recruit someone we've got no one.
