Ivan Maric

We've got to at least give him a shot if we have the chance. Get him in, do the due diligence and have as in depth a medical as we can do. Pass it, and sign him up.

I thought Maric may be able to go on again next year, but unfortunately after today, whilst he tries hard he just cannot do the things he was doing a few years ago that made him such a cult hero for the Tiger army. I will be disappointed if we go in with him as our primary ruck next year.

I'm all for Kreuzer if we can confirm that he is over his injury worries.

Goldy is the benchmark of great ruckman.
Maric toiled away but he's nowhere near that class. It's getting close to time.
Quality of our rucks is now a serious issue.
Agree TOO. The cupboard is bare.

That Hampson trade has been a disaster.

Even fairly late in the game the commentary team seemed to think that he'd broken even.

Which commentary team was that? I think the word commentator is a very loosely used word these days.

But Kruezer should not be the replacement. He can't jump either and his medical condition is a risk. If we can snag a younger ruck that can jump then ok otherwise we need to find and develop our own which we have not been successful at since Mark Lee.

Ivan was supposed to be physically capable. He's our big guy. The one with the big heart. We were molested in the air and eventually slaughtered at the fall.

Ivan was not the answer. He didn't impose himself at all. We are far too reliant on a physically limited player in this key role.

Okay fair enough. Let's just take Ivan out the back and shoot him, eh?

All I'm saying if anyone who watched the game reckons Maric's 19 hitout (10+ to the advantage of the opposition) compared to Goldstein's 46 constitutes an even contest for the day, they're probably not classified as expert commentators.

He was smashed. It was clear to the eye but the stats for Maric and Goldstein are below.

Disposals 9 vs 13 (Ivan has 3 kicks and 6 handballs, Goldstein had 7 kicks)
Marks 1 vs 3
Hitouts 19 to 46
Tackles 1 to 2
Clearances 3 vs 3
Inside 50's 0 to 5
Contested marks 0 vs 2

I don't even think Golstein was as influential as I think he can be but still smashed Maric.

I love Maric and he has been brilliant over the last few years but we need to acknowledge where he is now.

Yeah, I guess we'll just have to get rid of him along with a whole lot of others.

i'm a huge Maric fan, but the end is nigh. his bash and crash style shortens careers. he has 2 years left at best. i hope the club is eyeing a long-term replacement.

We're saying Ivan should be taking the field in a zimmer frame and yet elsewhere we're talking about picking up Stevie J. I give up. I won't say anything nice about Ivan anymore, he's obviously a broken down old crock who had one good season that has almost faded from memory.

Thats a bit of an over reaction. Surely you can see that Ivan just doesn't impact the contest as he used to. We have to have a strategy over what we need to do going forward.

There seems 3 options.

1 - Continue with Maric until he retires and then try and pick up another - High risk
2 - Bring in a FA and use our draft picks on someone else
3 - Use our draft picks to bring in a new ruckman

Seems 2 and 3 don't have too much difference, just the balance over what other players we want to bring in. What mix brings the best result.

I'm just fed up with seeing him give everything and then seeing him bagged here. If he can't win the game off his own boot he's clearly crap and not worth having.

Hardwick was smart enough going into the game that this ruck contest would be crucial between Maric and Goldstein. Like the rest of us privately he must have been sh!tting bricks at the prospect. Unfortunately Hampson who's our best tap ruck (the plan B) isn't a plan at all.
My sense is if Shaun wasn't to be played yesterday when the match up demanded it, then he should be Capuanoed from the remainder of his contract and another ruckman brought in with Ivan as the backup.

Fair call.
