Ivan Maric

I love Ivan. He's one of my favourite ever Tiger footballers. However Newie is too and I turned against him when I believed his time had come. Time stops for no one.

Like Newy, Maric's still giving his all but Ivy's time is coming too..

Yes we have to. We need to give our mids first chance.

Maric does not seem to be taking as many contested marks this season as well.

We have painted ourselves into a corner with our management of the ruck. Soldo, if he's any good at all, is at least 2-3cyears away. Everyone thinks we are going to throw money at a midfielder... Nope. We are going to have to throw it at a ruck. If not this year then definitely next. I'm not quite sure who is available but good ones dont just fall off trees. I get the impression we are gonna be so desperate we will convince ourselves that another underperformed Hampson or injury prone Luenburger type is the answer. The answer was recruited pick 8 7 years ago.

I love Maric too.

But we are bleeding badly from stoppages.

To be fair, he's just gone up against two west Australian freaks.

I'd still cut Ivvy some slack. He's been up against Sandilands and NicNat in the past two games, he rucked against Goldstein by himself and he gave Bellchambers an absolute bath. Has Hampson actually done anything in the twos to deserve a call up? Does he still drop easy marks and miss shots at goal?

Horses for courses too - when Nic Nat got Ivan's measure, why didn't we just try Vickery in the centre bounces and let Ivan resume the around the ground stuff. Coaches didn't think on their feet either.

Chances are, Ivan will play great next week against Pyke who he's better matched against.

The decision seems to have been made again that Vickery will be played mostly as a forward and Griff takes some of the centre bounce work when Ivan needs a rest. Having said that, though, late in the game they moved Chaplin forward and put Ty in the backline.

I thought mentally Ivan was shot last night. NN had him before the bounce. Very fumbly bumbly all night.

Ivan was never going to beat Nic Nat the midfield coach should realise that and set up accordingly Hampson and poor a footballer as he is probably would have done better at centre bounces

Probably, but what do you do with him for the rest of the game? We're already trying to hide Morris, Shaun's a whole lot harder to hide.

Yep, those couple of games he's going to struggle against freak physical specimens. We seemed to be a lot better prepared to negate Sandilands' tap dominance than Naitanui's. Maybe NicNat's the better ruckman?

NicNat's certainly got more athleticism, and he's coming into his peak years. Sandilands' freakish height has always been his biggest asset and made him hard to match up against.

First game for the year for me last night, maric looks gawn. Yes nicnat is great but he was much less effective when Vickery or Griffiths were at the stoppages. We can't go into games against premier ruckman with our no. 1 ruckman being so ineffectual.

100% completely right, probably even cost us the game, has west coast clearances were so cleaner and effective than ours.

The stats on centre clearances had us breaking even.
Wasn't what my old eyes saw on the night.

And, our disposal efficiency was (I think) a respectible 74%.
Again, not from where I was watching.
