Ivan Maric

Always love your posts Dyer'ere. However I am not sure you are 100% on this one. Martin is only 197cm and 100Kg so he is actually smaller then big Ivan. He is, however, far more athletically gifted. We have had great service from Ivan. Melbourne traded Martin because he was a chronic underachiever - he has only played 77 games in 10 years. He "clicked" last year in a big way and he is now the form ruck man of the competition at 28 yo.
I reckon both Hammer and Vickery still have time. In particular Hammer's recent form in the VFL has been very good and is starting to have a presence around the ground. I think people's assessment of him based on last year's form was correct but may not be this year (hopefully). Incidentally people will say the Hammer butchers the ball when he gets it but Martin incidentally leads his club for clangers this year, and he has quite a few to compete against in the current Brisbane team.

He looks 10kgs heavier to me, TM. But yes, both are shortarses. And I think we all noticed Stefan Martin's own goal. :hihi That said, when your ruck plays inside mid too the stoppage clangers are almost badges of honour.

But I have a new take on ruck men, TM. I want to stockpile them.

Vickery? I'd sign him to a five year deal and make him DVC of the reserves. Subtext - lift or rot. We had our chances to punt him. He's 25 now. We've done the pain - might as well keep him.

I'm not a Hamster h8tr. He's lazy and thick on the park, just not alive enough to the game. He cannot catch but he can play at ground level when he's involved. And he'd make short work of Maric at CBs, much as other rucks do.

At the end of the year I'd take Leuenberger. Lets get more and lend em out like goalies. Vickery can be on loan to Jacana.

The salary cap is rising. We can afford them. Let's get some rucks in the joint.

Looking very slow and is not really giving us anything in the ruck, would like to see Tyrone given the opportunity

Might be a good idea to give Ivan a break at some point soon so that we dont burn him out by the end of the season. Geelong this week may be an option, who have they got - Simpson?

Geelong also have Clarke too!

Vickery and Hampson come in I feel as much as what we think of them both.

Maric is struggling so give him a rest. As much as I love the big guy , he is getting some tap outs but around the ground he isn't covering it like he was previously.

the lack of movement and player positioning around stoppages hasn't helped Ivan. too many times his taps have ended up nowhere or in the hands of opposition.

Disagree, thought he played his best game for the year and ran it out well. He and the chimp really tried to inspire in the last.

I'm not sure maric really gave us that much around the ground on Saturday

I agree, DDT. Four rounds in and Maric seems to be struggling. The Big Fella is much admired, yet his impact on games seems to be diminishing. Hopefully a rest might be best.
The Tigers need to focus on recruiting themselves the next generation ruckman, because its stocks are starting to look decidedly thin.

Vickery is going to fill in for Griffiths for a while. Hopefully well. But after that he has to play first ruck for the Magoos to see if he will run a game out.

Ivan is getting flogged for long spells particularly early. He's had a month. It's time for him to lift or make way.

I have some sympathy for the Hampson lobby. He's useful in not getting flogged at CBs.

Listening to the recent Ross Smith interview and the club is aware Ivan hasn't been in great form to start the season.

Yet Hardwick appears to have given him a vote for Friday's performance.

The TV highlights video showed a whole lotta rucking. I can see a TV/Griff combo evolving over the next 12 months if the iVAN continues to creak, the Hampavan continues to suck and the McJesus twins resist our urging to prove their true divinity. Because TV sure hasn't been playing like a specialist forward for quite some time.
