Injury Report - Season 2023

Injury Report: Round 9, 2023…
https://www.richmondfc.com.au/news/1326113

Gibcus to return to VFL this week.

Soldo this week or next.

Nank a couple of weeks away.

So all going well, after the next 2 weeks we should just about have everyone in and around the best 22 back on full minutes bar Lynch. Also out longer term will be just first year players Smith and Campbell, plus the tallest man alive, Mate Colina. Sadly, Lynch is about the only player in our best 22 we wouldn't have a viable replacement for.

Injury Report: Gibcus, Soldo, Nankervis, M.Rioli

Josh Gibcus, hamstring
"It's been a long time, Josh has had a few setbacks with his wound. Things have been really good the last four-to-six weeks, he's put in a really good block. All things being good and he trains this week, he'll be available for some minutes in the VFL this Saturday, which will be exciting."

Ivan Soldo, foot
"Ivan's dealing with a pretty tricky foot problem. He's a test for later this week. We're hoping things progress really well, and if he gets through some work later in the week, he'll be available. But, we'll have to see where it's at."

Toby Nankervis, ankle
"Toby's going really well which is great. He's working really hard, as everyone would expect. We're hoping to get him involved in a little bit of football this week, and all things being good, available next week possibly, but definitely the week after."

Maurice Rioli, hamstring
"He's going really well, it's been a couple of weeks now and he's running really well. We have to be really careful, everyone knows how explosive Maurice is. So, we'll make sure we get this right, (even) if we have to take a little bit longer than we expected when we started, but he's going really well at the moment."

Tom Lynch, foot
"Tom's moved out of his moon boot which is really pleasing. He's going to see his specialist next week. Once he sees him, we'll start to formulate a plan for his return to running and then eventually football, but he's still a while away unfortunately."

Robbie Tarrant, hip
"Robbie's had a really good couple of weeks. Last Saturday in the wet out here he had a great session, so he's putting together some good work. We're going to ramp up the football and see how we go, but it's really positive at the moment and we're hoping to get him back into some footy soon."

Mate Colina, back
"We've actually seen some specialists outside of the footy club with Mate. He's in a period now where we haven't been doing any work, we actually gave him some time away from the club. He's coming back in this week, so we'll get our eyes on him and start formulating a plan back from there."

Kaleb Smith, ankle
"This is a tricky injury, things stagnated a little bit with Kaleb. But, he's a really positive kid and working really hard. We've seen some specialists outside of the Club and we're hoping to get him going again in a couple of weeks. We're a little bit unsure with how it's going to go, but he's working really hard and hopefully we'll see him soon."

Seth Campbell, adductor
"Seth's had a really stop-start year unfortunately. We made the decision a couple of weeks ago to take him out of the footy program again and really work on his strength and things have progressed really well since then. We're hoping after another week or two of de-loading, we'll get him back into the program."

Tom Brown, wrist
"Tom's been working really hard. Obviously, he's been able to run the whole time he's been injured and he's been working really hard on his fitness. He goes to see a specialist next week and hopefully gets the all clear to resume footy after that, and we'll be seeing Tom really soon which will be pleasing."

No it doesn’t.
Clubs don’t have specialist doctors working for them. He’s probably seeing an orthopaedic surgeon or someone like that.
If clubs have club doctors, wouldn't that include physios, orthos etc...

Tylar Young not mentioned in the injury report yet missed last round due to "injury"...?

They have a doctor who is a generalist and probably have some history is sports medicine I assume and as I understand are not full time anyway.
They have physios but physios are not doctors.
Not sure what you mean by an ortho? Orthopaedic surgeons usually work in a hospital or have private rooms and do their surgery work out of a private hospital earning mega bucks

I'm pretty certain all club docs have their own practice out in the real world
I have had a loose connection with a couple of ex AFL club doctors as they are good friends of family members. One is a Sports medicine specialist with private rooms and the other is a GP working in a practice with some specialty in sports medicine
Most of the club medicos would do it part time because they love it, they wouldn't be doing it for money. I am sure they get paid but not the same level some of these guys earn outside the club.
