How can you possibly know he didn't tick all the boxes unless you were on the selection committee? You're basically saying anyone who applied who had only been an assistant coach wouldn't have tickled all the boxes. Rawlings superficially would appear to be more qualified yet is manifestly unqualified. The process was comprehensive and in the absence of other evidence should appear to have dealt with those issues. I can understand ambivalence but not outright negativety.

I didn't say he didn't Ian, I am saying lets hope the 'process' worked.

Superficially his coaching resume as opposed to his playing resume appeared thin compared to others.

Dont know that they were any better TF, Have to trust in the process.

Superficially other had better resumes, Richardson as a development coach (with senior coaching experience).
Hinkley very successful coaching his own side and brings 7 years of his Geelong experience which is more successful than Hawks record.

However I've sat on a lot of tender panels and the better candidates do tend to stand out in terms of programs and presentations so I reserve judgment (assuming the evaluators are competent)

One thing I always look for is future tends and my concerns are that the IP that Damian brings is dated (ie , the sheedy stuff is old school, the Port way is now outdated and now that the rest have sussed out the rolling zone the Hawks IP is ho hum) I would be looking at Swans. St kilda, Geelong and even Crows as the templates for going forward. Is Damian a strategic thinker - will he cope as the game changes?

On the plus side his first quarter in the 2004 GF was sensational and set the tone for his team to follow - didn't give them a chance to choke - MVP in that GF for mine even though he was quieter for the balance of the game!

None of us really know what was said or presented or observed in these interviews. We all have our own perceptions and opinions but one way to see a guaranteed improvement in coaching the club is to compare these candidates and this process to the ones in 1999 and 2004. There's no proof that Hardwick will cheaply use his old stuff in our club just like Wallace did and I place my confidence in us improving mostly on how March has run our club and noticed our realistic problems ever since Casey left. I'm quite sure our club is well aware of what our problems really are especially after Wallace's 5 year debacle. Knights came from a failure like us and is doing really well (better than I expected) at Essendon so there's a great chance for us to finally see the light with Hardwick. Time's up.

After it being such a long "process" & none of us having any idea ; ) it feels funny now that we know who the coach is, after it being kept quite for so long & not really expecting to know until just b4 press conference.Anyway good result, but can we please not see the wink anymore

The 'process' was a great success not only in the end point but also in canvassing what's happening in the football world outside richmond. Thats what a lot of people including North melbourners failed to grasp.

This is another marker on the process started in about 2006 with march in charge which has seen Jackson, Cameron , Free. more football department resources replace Miller, making Wallace accountable and eventually moving him on. The review started last year had todays outcome and the process' hich preceded it in mind as a feasible option. I'm as sure that psrt of teh rebuld will include more football dept resources and hopefully smarter outcomes. Dont have to sell me on the process - doesn't mean I am comfortable with the outcome

Lets hope the right man has been picked - gut feel though not positive- probably just gas!

Been involved in 3 of the last 10 premierships.

Hopefully he's learnt a bit from each.

3 different & successful clubs. Good experience.

time will tell.
I hope he does well...
he is a RIchmond person now so will get my full support unless he Jordan McMahon on the list.

also seen first hand how a proper rebuild was done.

alot of work ahead - needs to work with CC and rebuild this club and will get full support. if he takes short cuts like those before him then the support will quickly fade

I am feeling positive, becasue we went through a selection process. Time will tell what that delivers, but at least we didn't jump at shadows and get pushed into a decision by the media.
