Just concerned WT. If the "process" worked he should have the boxes ticked. Superficially it appeared he didn't. Bit of a risk becauase there is no overt evidence that he can coach or has any man management or development skills. Diplomacy also seems to be an issue!

If he got the job simply coz he is the opposite of Tezza it might be a worry.

We'll all find out soon enough but in me bones it has that "Meathead Harvey" feel to me.

I empathise where you are coming from, but the process seems to have been very comprehensive, I'm sure that this would have been addressed.

The road is long...and I am happy to walk it with someone that knows what is acceptable and what is not.
I must say, honestly since the grandpa's sheds and malthouse were not suitable...Damian HARDwick was the only choice.
claps all round to the PRocess

Fair call.

I had some concerns with both candidates.

Strange comments. What makes you know the other candidates were better?

Not really a strange comment to be honest.

I understand totally where lamb is coming from, everyone has the right to feel apprehensive but I have just heard so many good things and I believe the process would have diminished so many concerns.

He has to prove himself, but I feel he can.

I hope we all give him some time he is a new senior coach & will take a little time to find his feet things won't turn straight away.

They knew this decision was huge, they would have been through all of those issues this time.

Quick on the Avatar Bobby.

He must have shown a bit at Port for them to be so keen to sign him to a succession plan. Or was it a case of they are so sick of Chocco that anyone would do.

They tried very hard to cut us off at the pass which must say something about the man.

Yep. Had it in mind for a while, Sir Bobby will always be remembered down the bottom of my posts.

He is a very impressive bloke.

We made a very good decision, now let's hope it works.

We can't hope we expect it to work.

Get off your high horse and fire up.......

;D

My fire's waned a little this season gussie, Hardwick has my support but I can see the massive task at hand and am tapering my excitement. There will be no miracle turnarounds.

Hopefully this is the right decision because it will nearly see us off if DH can't turn this dungheap in the right direction.

I just hope most supporters don't expect finals next season.

Dont know that they were any better TF, Have to trust in the process.

Superficially other had better resumes, Richardson as a development coach (with senior coaching experience).
Hinkley very successful coaching his own side and brings 7 years of his Geelong experience which is more successful than Hawks record.

However I've sat on a lot of tender panels and the better candidates do tend to stand out in terms of programs and presentations so I reserve judgment (assuming the evaluators are competent)

One thing I always look for is future tends and my concerns are that the IP that Damian brings is dated (ie , the sheedy stuff is old school, the Port way is now outdated and now that the rest have sussed out the rolling zone the Hawks IP is ho hum) I would be looking at Swans. St kilda, Geelong and even Crows as the templates for going forward. Is Damian a strategic thinker - will he cope as the game changes?

On the plus side his first quarter in the 2004 GF was sensational and set the tone for his team to follow - didn't give them a chance to choke - MVP in that GF for mine even though he was quieter for the balance of the game!

How can you possibly know he didn't tick all the boxes unless you were on the selection committee? You're basically saying anyone who applied who had only been an assistant coach wouldn't have tickled all the boxes. Rawlings superficially would appear to be more qualified yet is manifestly unqualified. The process was comprehensive and in the absence of other evidence should appear to have dealt with those issues. I can understand ambivalence but not outright negativety.

The comprehensive process should have dealt with that.

I guess we will see over then next few weeks if he has the balls to make tough calls.

I am betting there will be some very nervous passengers on the Richmond Bus.....knowing that there stop may approach quicker than they thought. I hope he has his own path clearly marked out and is not afraid to make tough calls.

He has the mandate now lets see if he has the balls to end the sentimental garbage that has hindered our progress.
