Grand Final 2020 Thread Richmond Vs Geelong / Game Day Thread

I was a touch harsh on queenslanders before.

It was just the bitter hipsters in westend eshewing proper culture.

After a few bloody marias, queensland more broadly is a much nicer place.

Ive had plenty of unsolicited, enthusiastic 'go tiges'.

Even a few streamers and balloons in queen st.

I feel like brisbane is behind us.

To our melbourne brothers and sisters, i am thinking of you and giving everything ive got on your behalf.

Get down to the Shafston Ezy. I was there at midday for some media stuff. Sunk my first beer at 11:45am and, if I didn't have to get back to the office, could have settled in for the day. Plenty of guys down there already and there's a QLD supporters group function tonight.

For anyone who wants a great preview jump on afl page Ross the boss very nformative not bias view.
Some of that analysis was used on Classified. Interesting discussion about "assertive defence"; our defence charged the ball early last week and made a few blunders.

Ive been reclining on a leather lounge in a joint panelled in red cedar,

Having landsborough pineapples delivered by limousine, blended, steeped in sage

And served over tequila soaked moreton bug tails

Ive always been one for pre-emptive celebrations, just in case

I dunno, I don’t fear Geelong as much as I used to.

I think it’s because we’re a better team with a better system.

Geelong like to control games through possession chains, we all know that. Problem is it falls apart against high pressure teams. It falls apart in elite finals heat.

Let’s look at the form line.

First off Geelong lost to Port in Port. Comfortably. We went over there and won. As good a scientific baseline as you get in footy.

Then Geelong beat a physically cooked Collingwood and an emotionally cooked Brisbane.

The likelihood of greasy or wet conditions only lessens Geelong’s already slim chances.

We’ll just shut them down. Kill the first link the possession chain. If that doesn’t work, kill the second. If that doesn’t work, intercept in D50. They’ve only got one bloke down there who’ll go near the high ball and he can be edged under it.

Geelong can’t score against us. If they try to move the ball quickly, they’ll only give us more opportunity to take it off them.

We’ve got this. Dimma’s job tomorrow is the easiest in the world.

“Just bring the 1-wood boys. We do that, the rest will take care of itself.”

If we play our at our best we win. It’s simple. No other team comes close when we do.

Nailed it Carter.
Our one wood strangles them. Press up against their half backs and make them chip along D50. Then just wait for them to cough it up.

I'm sure you'll do us all proud easy.
Get on the Bowen Lagers, and keep any eye out for Les Norton, he'll come in handy if those Cat fans don't take the loss too well.

People here are underestimating Geelong. They are in the best form they've been in for 10 years. A good mix of experience, youth, energy, skill and toughness. Well drilled and playing with aggression and confidence.

We don't have any advantage other than the quality of players like Martin, Nank, Grimes, Edwards, and Prestia. I think at their best, they are better than anything Geelong can offer at theirs.

But we need our best players to play at their best, because anything less and we get consumed like Collingwood and Brisbane did.

We cannot rely on just being better than Geelong, because right now we aren't.

I watched the Ultimate Preview last night. They concentrated on Geelong's stats finals stats and showed how Geelong had changed it up / turned it on / shifted gears / took it to another level. This is all based on stats.

Not one mention that they had two training runs against witches hats in the last two finals.

I'm not taking anything away from them because they our opponents tomorrow and deserve the utmost respect (until it's clear we've beaten them), but there's a fair bit of tyre pumping going about how their form line coming into the grand final is.

We cannot rely on just being better than Geelong, because right now we aren't.

Round 17 wasn't that long ago and we tore them apart. I mean really tore them apart.
