I can see you're point Jim. It was there to be made and contributes to us overcoming racism IMO. But in this case, I dont think I agree.
An example;
I have labelled Shane Edwards 'our shaun burgoyne' for years. I am paying Shane the ultimate compliment; Silky skilled, understated, game changing, black fella (there is nothing
wrong with celebrating
racial strengths IMO, although it isnt cut and dry. If I would say Alir Alir would have a *smile* bigger than Horse Longmire, I am being racist, whilst paying Alir ALir a strange sort of
compliment.
The key here is, it isnt simple. Intent also plays a part, although it maybe simply demarcate casual racism from formal racism.
If I had compared Shane Edwards to Troy Taylor, and said 'geez we should buy him a house, so he doesnt go walk about', then that is
1) extrapolating negative stereo types based on race, and
2) Intentionally using race to bring him, or troy down.
and I would be being racist, and possibly be a racist
I'll point out my understanding of these two layers;
1) being racist (verb) and
2) being a racist or a participant in racism
I think,
1) all of us will be racist from time to time and
2) self-identify, or accept its identification and correct it, to avoid becoming a racist and participating in racism
I think is also worth pointing out that 'australian' isnt a race and if people wish to claim white supremacy or black deficiency, however discretely, they need to contrast characteristics of
anglo-saxons with the more meletonin-rich races.
Its very tricky and very simple at the same time. Like many things.
further, I am aware my perspective may be wrong.
back on Mabs, I think his shown enough for another year.
If there was one spot left between him and eggs, I would bust the ball out of my bic signing Mabs
