Goodbye Mabior Chol

Chol drafted as a rookie at 198cm and 72kg

Now listed as 200cm and 92kg

So has grown 2cm and put on 20kg in 3 years. Still needs another 8/10kg

I would be keeping him for a while yet and see how much more improvement he can get out of himself.

Can't give up on him now. There would easily be at least 5 to *smile* off before him

Yep. Happy for Cholly to get another year, but he needs to start playing a handful of senior games next year.
Preferably as a bench rotation to give Nanks a spell during games or even just throw him a game or two against the cellar dwellers while Nank has a week off later in the season.

Daw and Cholly why do we need to look for comparisons.

What bull.... They are two different players and linking them in this way is just offensive rubbish. We desperately need him to do well but whether he does or not has abolutely nothing to do with Majak Daw.

With Lynch coming in 2019 , has probably made it even tougher for him to get games in the top side with everyone being available

This season I thought , second tall forward / ruck relief , was his best chance if they wanted to go down that path

Offensive rubish?
Give me a break!

Two AFL listed players from an non AFL background, who were both drafted for their athletic skills, in the hope they could pick up the nuances of AFL and become converts.
Daw has been in the AFL system longer than Chol, so it is only natural to compare the two to see how Chol is tracking in comparison.
Sure there would be differences such as attitude, injuries, training intensity etc but it is just a basic comparison.

Israel Folau and Carmichael Hunt were compared to each other in the same way, just because of the rugby backgrounds.
Irish players are compared to each other, adding in the homesick factor.
Americans will now be compared to Mason Cox.

Clubs need have to have a benchmark to assess whether to give a prized spot on their list to someone with a limited time to excel, against players who have played AFL all their lives.
It is a speculative pick, especially knowing the player will be given extra years to learn and adapt to the game.

So when we are looking at Chol, and how he is coming along, of course you compare him to Daw who has been in the same system longer.

Agree that it’s hard to find a benchmark for Chol as he’s pretty unique. Chol plays like Buddy (or Dean Putt), a bursting small forward in a tall, athletic body. Daw crashes packs and plays strong and tall, which is the slowest-developing type of tall.

Chol moved to Australia when he was 8 and played school football at age 12, Daw arrived in Australia at age 12. So Chol has had more time to adapt than Daw, and he’s not a convert like Mason Cox, and he’s not at risk of homesickness like an Irishman. He’s pretty unique and benchmarks aren’t going to be very accurate no matter who you pick.

Chol's tracking better than the home invasion gangs.

Are you playing the racist card?

Im extremely hopefull that Chol takes a big step in 2019 and starts dominating VFL games with his ability to leap and run and perhaps start making the AFL team

He was always expected to be a 5-6 year project player and we really started to see some signs until he broke his foot and was sidelined

He will be the perfect height/weight in 2019 probably 200cm/98-100kgs and looking like has maintained his leap and speed

will turn 22 on 29 jan so has time

I wouldn’t compare him to Daw either...maybe Alir Alir though......

People forget the promise he showed in a fosters cup game against hawthorn a couple years ago.
We need to keep him.

Allir is the standout in regards to the African boys.

He is the Only one that can actually read the game.

Kaching! Always been Majak's problem n quite possibly Choly's problem as well.

More of the same.
Does this mean we are no longer allowed to compare any players to others from now on? No rucks or mids or forwards. No tall skinny players or short stumpy ones, perhaps we can still compare quick ones n slow ones???? I know, I know, how about dud delist players? Surely we are still allowed to compare the crap players on our list or on other lists.

When you choose an African Australian as a point of comparison for another African Australian your comments are at risk of being called out as racist and offensive.Just like when you compare Muslims or indigenous players.
Its *smile* and totally unnecessary.
