Goodbye Mabior Chol

Good old light hearted racism.

The fact that you associate African people with home invasions is not 'a light hearted comment that touches on race'. It's a racist comment that breeds xenophobia and hate. But you have form there.

But you were nice to an indian person. So you can make whatever comment you feel like about black people without fear of racism. Right.

Absolutely right. It is a puzzle to me that in this day and age we can just laugh it off. There is nothing light hearted about laughing it off.

Maybe it might be off topic but is Mabs going to make it? Certainly hope so as showed something prior to his season ender injury. Assume he stays as the club tends to be loyal to those who have suffered season enders?
:hihi

Stop trashing Cholly's thread everyone....(me included). I wonder why it's taking so long for a decision to be made from either party. I hope we keep him.

I agree Leon. By the way I think you've done pretty well not to have committed a mass shooting compared to someone of similar race.

Thanks for proving me right - about "I'm probably not allowed to make that comparison!" Funny how you edited that out of my post. But highly amusing to see you emerge from the murk to announce yourself as one of the self-appointed paragons of PC virtue, Chops. As for relevance ...!? Wow, you are so off-beam here that it forces me to just probe what could be going on.

Strange how I was sure you weren't even talking to me. No reply to my recent post response to you re ruckmen in 2018 on te DLM thread. No, you're too offended ... and intolerant? Perhaps you simply can't handle it when someone disputes your vaunted opinions; who when he loses an argument, debate or discussion, becomes highly personal, nasty, sooks it up and runs away on his high horse. Diddums.

Why else do you suddenly plunge into this thread abruptly to jump on me for a minor comment? So patronising, so self-righteous! So absurd.

I am not going to dignify such idiocy with much further response. I don't need to justify myself to a peanut like you, who preaches like a 13 year old schoolboy who just had his first lesson in Yr. 9 Civics ... if they were an American!!

Except to say, that the worse form of human behaviour is based on interpersonal or collective spite - exactly what drives bigotry. I actually feel none of this to anyone - unlike you.

My major point was that if people seek hard enough to find offence, it can be always found. You illustrate this perfectly, Chops.

I agree with you - just had to reply to some nonsense. We should all get back to footy probably. Not so much trashing as diverting.

My latest idea was that the club could be sending Cholly a message. Have no idea if he has too casual or laidback an attitude (surely that's not offensive?), maybe they want to shake him up to realise he really has to start delivering consistently in '19 if he wants an AFL career. But the club intends to keep him, surely.

It is interesting but then Townsend, Drummond & Eggmolesse-Smith are in the same boat, so who really knows??

What about 'woMAN' and 'feMALE'? Silly stuff..

Crazy indeed, up there with Happy Holidays.

Just to eloborate on my cricket buddy who caked himself in shoe polish, he also came with a set square attached to his arm which was his main prop. Any guesses as to who was portraying?

Africans that have terrorised families in their homes, committing aggravated burglaries - and car jackings - in a manner and at a far greater frequency than ever before, do their own communities no favours and contribute to any zenophobia and hate that develops as a result. You pontificate with such arrogance on the matter but I am not sure you really know the details. But hey as long as you can look down your nose..

Can we leave this thread for discussion about Chol and move the rest to the racism thread. most of this has been discussed before.

Are they from the same background? Yes.
Do they play AFL? Yes
Are they Tall? Yes
Do they play similar roles? Yes.
Can they read the the play? No
They have a lot in common so I think it's fair to compare them.

Given Sudanese players are new to the game I don't see any problem comparing their development,

Back to the inidividual, Mabior Chol - Chol has been playing Aussie Rules for 10 years now.

Overplaying the new to the game factor IMO. (If anything... Chol’s background is likely to benefit his career).

Personally I've never really seen Marbs have an inability to read the game & think that has been overstated here.
2nd & third efforts have been his biggest issue & he addressed that last season. Was also much more physical.
As well as fitness, his biggest issue still remains when he doesn't get a clean jump at the ball.
For his size he's quite weak when he has to sit under the footy & loses too many aerial contests.
He can play the game though & has very good athletic attributes as well as being a good kick.

Edit: Just read an article that we'll delist him & re rookie if nobody else pics him up. Have sent him a clear message here.

Fair enough,

But thats either preaching to the converted,

Or getting a burning tyre round your neck.

I could mount a case that Mabs thread is an appropriate place to tease out issues of racism.

But then id probably disagree with myself

Astute comment. But re final edit - Oh no! This could be a big mistake. Really disagree with that decision if true. We could well lose him to another club willing to take the long-term risk of developing another Allir or Daw. ERROR, IMHO.

The more I think about it, the more highly probable I think it is e.g. Colonwood took the punt on Kirby, Mayne etc. Saints took a punt on Nathan Freeman. We will lose him.

Worth a rookie spot. has the talent now he needs to show it.
I'm happy he gets another opportunity

So many nuances in our great game. Teaching ball flight and body contact such an instinctive part which Maribor lacks. He actually played some junior footy but not sure anyone worked hard on him one on one until he hit Tigerland. Chips are stacked against him but he does posses some unique athletic attributes
