Goodbye Mabior Chol

Only a few weeks ago Mabs was looking lost on the park.

A lack of physical confidence key. The good news is that he has furnished and is now a monster. The better news is that he's beginning to realise it. He will get air, front or rear position. He will fly against other monsters.

He is now miles ahead of Seymour for physical confidence. At least at VFA level. His urgency is much improved but evenness of effort is still a problem. Concentration.

He's not a quick user but he's orthodox, even glamourous. He has lost a bit of zip and a bit of recovery. He's not quite as agile.

This bloke is levelling up right now and looks a prospect.

Loved the way the club has developed this kid. In previous years he would've been another kid waiting for "delisted" stamped against his name.
He could possibly be the free moving tall forward we are looking for.

.

Easy to get seduced by glamour. We’ve all fallen for the beauty with the really bad personality. Hardwick is the exception. He prefers role players and stoic performers. You’ll never see Mrs Hardwick on a cat walk!

Your not concerned about his reding of the ball in mid flight??

Thought he was horrible yesterday in that aspect. Couldn't read it at all and got caught under it far too often.

Have noticed this too. No doubt Chol likes to jump on at the ball on the run Smokey. He is far weaker when wrestling with his opponent under the ball. To develop that weakness he will have no better teachers than Leppa & Truck. In the meantime his team mates need to put it out in front of him& make him jump at it whilst others block those who will attempt to block his run. If they can do that, few have got the vertical leap to stop him taking the mark. He is an extremely athletic footballer.

I think it's the main indicator of lack of physical confidence, SA. It's a vice of youth and one that Mabs is growing out of right now. (I think he's ahead of Seymour ATM.)

Mabs named inter/emergency for Sunday. Good signs.

Are we thinking of experimenting with one of those two-tall setups, yott?

Doubt he will get a call up. He was named emergency last week which is not effect the extended bench.

I’ve watched Cholly very closely over the pre season....

He still has lapses...but no where near as many as before
He can still be a bit lazy.......but can snap out of it in a heartbeat
He stil tends to run under the ball......but now turns and applies a great second effort

So, yes, he is still a work in progress....but...

He can now comfortably play at either end of the ground.......
He can slot goals comfortably from outside 50....
He presents, and shows no fear......
If he knows he can’t mark, he will bring the ball to ground, to advantage...
He is probably the most athletic tall in the comp.....

So, what to do....

I feel that all it will take is one break out game(and that is very very close),and he will be awesome
He is very unpredictable , and he can play anywhere..including ruck...hence he can be a very dangerous player.

The only thing he needs is a confidence boost.....and as soon as that happens.....woweee!!

With Chol the way i see it he is 3 years away from being anywhere near a best 22 level and thats fine as he was always going to be a project player that will take 5 years
But if he becomes the player we think he can be then he will be a physical athletic beast and the exact type of ruckman we always wanted

Im Happy to wait

Well said - and it's a great chance for him to show a bit.
We absolutely need that second tall to give Nank a genuine rest.
Reckon it could be a good move.

I'm sure Norf supporters were posting similar things about Daw.
Will struggle for consistency even at VFL level. :(

That Mab's is even in the conversation for a call up is a positive. Good preseason form being recognized. Happy to see a player still early in his development making some headway.
