Goodbye Mabior Chol

Don't think we have a choice. Chol plays as if he's under-sized. I think we're just going to need to trust our system as we did against Geelong where we lost clearances 32 to 16. At least we'll hopefully have Lynch back.

Might be able to square that up a bit with the inclusion of Shedda and hopefully Dion around the stoppages.

Such a disappointing effort against Adelaide.
It was his big chance to shine and show his worth, build some confidence for the pressure cooker atmosphere of finals.
Most of us recognise that Mabior has some very nice skills but without the instinct or desire to play competitive, contested footy he will always struggle to show his worth.

Not sustainable ( in my view ) in finals but the backline now with Astbury would be hard to kick a winning score.
But you keep putting the backline under constant pressure and a player has a night out ‘ like USA’ did , no backline, as good as it is can stop that dominance. My view.

And Chol would prevent this situation how? With Astbury back in and Lynch back would be better off bringing Broad back in and playing Balta as backup ruck. At least he'll provide 2nd efforts and take a few marks. USA night had extenuating circumstances. No one at Tigers want to make excuses but the whole backline was under the weather including 1 just out of hospital.

Anyhow we'll find out in 2 weeks. I predict Chol will be dropped. It's interesting that 2 times he was brought back in to play he kicked 5 goals in praccie games.

there is no way we will go into the game with Balta as our back up ruck.
and we wont bring Broad back to play that role either, unless we have more injuries. Chol had the chance to claim that spot last night and he came close to blowing it.
I would like to see him get another chance, but with so much competition for spots it is unlikely.
i think it will come down to Chol or Caddy.

Beaten in front.
Beaten behind.
Constantly attempting to mark with one arm.
Fumbled below his knees.
Couldn’t have been a worse finals audition if he tried.
Premiership is ours to lose. Team selection is critical from here.
Broad to the bench and Balta 4th defender/2nd ruck rotating with Broad and Nanks. Gives us real flexibility and mobility.
Cant think of a better option.

Yep

In a more free flowing game with less congestion I think he would be quite good at leading into space. He is a beautiful kick, unfortunately the game isn't played that way at the moment.

That's a possibility. We seem to have got taller since 2017 with the addition of Lynch, Soldo and Balta. But we are a running side. So, having Astbury back could free up Balta for a small amount of ruck work (very reluctant about this as he is so good down back, but with Soldo out . . . ). Nank could do the traditional rest in defence when not rucking, although there is a reason that tradition has gone, not just interchange instead of reserves, but also the faster game these days and hence the need for rucks to rest.

Difficult to work out the best combination, if we see some footage of Balta rucking at training you will know this is a big possibility.

Fair enough that's your opinion in which case who will backup Nanks if Chol is not selected? Won't be Caddy, he only rucked one contest.

Agree - it was so frustrating seeing him so often get outmarked - looked slow off the mark.

For me where Chol failed was to make a contest and spoil from behind when he was out of position.

The trouble is finals are such a contested one on one game and I think Chol struggles when he is required to bring his physicality.

I wouldn't be giving him a game based on last night. We will play the Lions or the Power - neither provide a ruck opponent that really provides much risk of dominating us. Id feel pretty comfortable with going in with just Toby & using Balta as the back up. With Lynch down forward i dont think Chol adds much there either. Last night was the perfect game for him to show his strengths and he didnt take it. Finals is all about being clutch - would prefer Caddy get a game, he understood the moment yesterday, was desperate to prove him game

Exactly right. Caddy is a footballer and will kick clutch goals, and get involved in a final. Chol didn't do any of those things playing against the wooden spooner.

Good points, YOTT
I guess like others, I am concerned about his ability to absorb the heat and intensity of a final and then still find a way to produce and contribute to the team effort.
I don't expect him to relish the contest finals say like Cotch and Martin and Grimes do for example, but I do have this uncertainty that he could completely disappear under the pressure and be of little value.
If he's selected, which there is a good chance, then I do hope that I am wrong and that he can find his mojo and get set for an impact.

Broad training in that ruck role with Miller.I tell you one thing Broad has did that ruck role before and he will give us a contest atleast and 120%.

Chol doesn't know how to find it. Gets pushed out of every contest when kicked to him and if by some miracle gets hold of it he doesn't know what to do with it.

Broad and Balta interchangeable could use both as part timers as there is no loss in the backs when one is rucking

I do Id be prepared to go with a chop out ruck as they will offer more at ground level than Chol.

We won a Grand Final with a chop out ruck no reason we cant do it again.

Balta as a chop out ruck is better than Chol especially physically as her at least competes hard in the contest and at ground level.

Well your response is the same as mine. I was responding to the comment that we can't go in without a recognised 2nd ruckman for which I said I don't think we have a choice, Chol isn't cutting it as a 2nd ruckman so we have to play a chop out.

Soldo’s injury has really messed up our structure. Surely we can’t play Chol in finals. He was insipid last night.
