Golf

Really poor US Masters for mine this year. Ruined by the atrocious weather. The late-early starters in the first 2 rounds had a 2 stroke advantage over the rest of the field. It was a stop-start mess with tee times and starting tees all over the place. Plus, I don’t really like Rahm and Kupcakes either.

McGinley was right. It was always going to be hard for Kupcakes to maintain that level of play and he might get swamped by Rahm. But still, Kupcakes melted today. Terrible iron play and terrible putting. He had no idea of the pace on the greens.

Full credit to Rahm though even if I don’t like him. He was on the wrong side of the draw and still blitzed them.

Agree with others. The US Masters is becoming a schmaltzy, corny event from a tv perspective. All the crap on the Monday to Wednesday with weak, over dramatic, sucky nobodies like Kelly Tilghman is insufferable.

I like it, but not my favourite event of the year.
What's your favourite tournament Red?

Just quietly there's a bus load of us coming to cheer U on, Yellow & Black!! :gotiges
RIchmond Cheer Squad made a banner and all ;)

"The Big Richo
He's never to slow
At the end of the pro-am
He'll be pocketing the dough!!":cupgold:eyes

I was going to revel the guys I might be going around with but thought best not for security purposes.

Too many on here who might try and assassinate me!

The Ryder Cup, British Open and US Open. I also like the LA Open from Riviera and The AT & T from Pebble Beach - although that tournament has had the field quality significantly eroded in recent years.

Yeah that Ryder Cup man would be awesome to see. Did the President's Cup here and that was awesome, but obviously has not got that prestige the Ryder has over time, would prefer to see it in Europe than the State's though because they'd be the ones I'd be cheering on aye :D

Because its run by the PGA (not the PGA Tour), the Ryder Cup for as great as it is, sometimes gets played on the odd flaky course. This might be one of those years. Being played on what appears to be a pretty average course just outside of Rome. A few players have already criticised the venue after playing it on the DP World Tour.

Never played in a decent pro am before, only small ones with local pros, I've been to the Alfred Dunhill as a caddy but that's more a celebrity thing.

They did ask for an AGU handicap, not sure if it was compulsory or not but didn't seem to be any need to be under a limit. In this case the cost of entering is so high I doubt you would get anyone that didn't love their golf, so you'd expect most people entering would be at least regular players.

I don't hit the ball as well as I once did, but I can still get around reasonably, be lying if I said I'm not already nervous about the prospect of teeing off in front of a pro though, especially now they have decided to let crowds in!
Good luck mate, i if you end up playing. It would be an awesome experience I reckon. You’ll have to give us a full report about it.

Quite a good field playing in the RBC Heritage, most of the players from the Masters are backing up. My squad from the Masters are going ok, Hovland -7, Im -5, Woodland -2, Theegala and Connors -1.

Good field. Rory stands to lose $3m by not playing.

Played that course a few years ago. Great area. Fun course. Condition can be a bit sketchy. Furry, slow, Bermuda greens.

Fitzpatrick hits one of the best shots ever seen in a play off. Playing the 3rd extra hole against Spieth, he hit his second shot 186 yards on the 18th to within 8 inches, wow!!

Spieth was robbed, he couldn't believe the puts that wouldn't go in for him :p

Yeh it was great.

Speith missed two maekable putts to win the thing.

I'd never noticed how much he whinges until Red mentioned it on this thread. Every time he misses a green its because the wind changed direction. Every lip out is an injustice. I imagine it must be something to do with mondset - never admitting you made a mistake maybe? But he sure is a whinger, and as Red also pointed out *smile* slow. He takes way too long to play shots. It was great to see Fitzpatrick bury him.

I sort of do love the fact though he can spray it everywhere and still make a score. He has some sort of short game wizadry at times.

What a great final round at Harbour Town. Unreal. Best final round so far this year. Gutsy stuff from both Fitzpatrick and Speef. No quarter given.

Fitzpatrick too tough in the end. Nailed every tee shot in the playoff and stuffs it to 8 inches on the 3rd playoff hole.

Brilliant.

What about our Grace Kim !

LPGA rookie in just her third start and wins in a playoff. Fantastic.

I’ve seen Grace play a few times in the flesh here in Australia - including at my club - and her game has come a long loooong way in the last 2 years.

Cool as a cucumber today. Big things beckon.

Slow play is a blight on the game. PGA tour needs to start penalising the serial offenders.
Yeah I read that last night. This is what I’ve been banging on about for months. Professional golf is grinding to a halt. And it’s not just the PGA Tour. It’s every Tour around the world.

They were very soft in that article on Speith. He is interminable as I’ve mentioned on this thread several times. And therein lies one of the issues: the media, meaning journos, commentators etc are all too scared to call these selfish plodders out. They’re all too scared they won’t talk to them or give them interviews etc.

Time for the Tours to start penalising players in-play. One warning then a stroke penalty thereafter if they don’t get back on the clock. They have stats for everything nowadays. Great. Start publishing the average round times for players. Media…start calling these guys out when they are taking too long over a shot and not this pissweak “gee he’s really grinding over this shot” or “it’s great listening to Spieth and Greller going back and forth”. Not it’s not. Play the *** shot you boring plods.

Big problem in golf.
