Golf

I wouldn't be so sure, they've had a great Masters and are about to hold their most successful event yet later this month.

Bubba today saying they are considering bringing 3 events to Australia next year.
Yeah, but is anybody watching it? Seems like it’s got terrible ratings. They really need to get a tv deal if it’s any chance of surviving.
I’m pretty sure the Victorian government don’t want to know about it and rejected a request to play at one of the sandbelt courses. One thing they should do is try and get a tournament at ellerston.

The Vic government might change their tune on the back of the Adelaide event being a sellout.

Big tourism dollars, no doubt much welcomed by local businesses after being hamstrung during covid lockdowns.

Jason Day, what a melt down. He dropped 4 shots end of 2nd round that were simply poor.

4 putts from not that far and proceeds to implode with another 3 double bogeys in the next 4 holes.

He was 9 under after 32 holes and finished 5 over. Might leave a few scars.
I have always followed JDay but really terrible performance. Let's face it; from the time of dumping that approach in the drink, did he just CHOKE!? Sorry, Jase, but you have to be better than that. Why are you laying up with your distance anyway? At least go down attacking like Hovland did. Perhaps with all the focus on overcoming his physical issues just to drive the ball well again, that he didn't notice his short game and putting have really dropped away.

A wake-up call for all our players - none of whom got within 6 shots of the leading amateur, Bennet (US) who has a lovely swing (if you are that young with a supple, flexible spine!)
Has Cam Smith gone right off the boil since going LIV? Is he really taking it seriously after banking $A140m ? Seemed to play carelessly to me.Still a moot question whether he has been prepared to sell out his potential successful achievements/history/legacy for $$$$. But I'm not intending to blame him. It's most understandable. But failed to refute this criticism.
Uncle Adam is very unlikely to win any more significant events IMO; just fades away blowing his chances with wayward approaches or putts at the business end. His game is just not sharp enough to beat these modern players. Golf's nice guy but no threat any more.

MWL - has made some progress but still too erratic. Makes a birdie or eagle; continually gives it back to the field within another 2/3 holes, until falling away totally. Cannot win a tournament until he really appreciates the value of pars. But Smith played the same way too.

Even NZ's Fox managed to finish even. Overall, our 2nd Masters green jacket is looking a long way off.

The 2023 US Masters from Drofgusta National is won and done. And the winner is with a final score of -30......

TIGERMAN !!!!

Well done Toigs. We'd get the 2022 winner Tenacious to present you with the illustrious Red Jacket in the famous Red Room with Jim Pantz to interview you, but given his performance, it appears he's bolted from the car park in his Bentley in petulant disgust. Shock of the Too-nament. Oh well. Looks like as Chairman it'll just be me, you and Jim. Wear the jacket with pride Toigs.

Toigs got a lead up at the end of the 2nd round with a group of 8 that was gonna be hard to beat - even with Jason Day completely capitulating and ruining a bunch of other scores with a shocking final round. Thanks Day.

Kings of Leon and Miles Davis share equal second place at -13. Well done. Leon will be rueing a bad 3rd round as will Tigerforce who finished 4th at -10 overall.

Players who missed the cut or WD'ed in the 3rd round (ie Woods) received the field average of 73 (which was the same for both 3rd and 4th rounds) plus two strokes for a 75 and therefore 3 over score each of the 3rd and 4th rounds.

A tough US Masters to watch, and for the Chairman to calculate scores this afternoon. Got RSI from all the key strokes and reviewing so check your scores.

Well done Toigs. See you all at the next major - the PGA Championship from Oak Hill country Club in Rochester, New York state, May 18.

Well done Tigerman - and other entrants. And great effort, Red, for all the trouble you took.

Seeing this post of yours reminded me how i forgot to reply in a previous discussion we were having on this topic. I'll try to find it and catch up with that tomorrow, too tired atm.

But the only media deal LIV could get in the end may not be helping them at all. Maybe they would have been better off staying with YouTube.
But LIV were virtually sabotaged by the vested interests. I read an article about it weeks back so not sure I can find but perhaps by a google search. They were close to doing a deal with a more major network who suddenly cut them out.

It was very likely big US media like Fox (Murdoch affiliated?) and other major networks blocking their access, not wanting/allowing any competition with huge PGA financial interests and sponsors.

Further evidence of how, as much as the Saudis are a horrible government, US capitalism is hardly noble and honorable, adhering to the principle of fair and open competition in business. US PGA have taken virtual control of world golf and the vast millions involved. They have no intention of surrendering their status as world controller of golf $$$$$$$$.

Well only 51 weeks to the Masters .

A green keeper mate of mine is working at the Grange for the LIV event , he’s been told theyve really struggled to get the required help for the event .

Heading over Wednesday to play Royal Adelaide on the Thursday, be Interesting to see what the hypes like for LIV the following week .

Depends on your perspective I guess. LIV reckons the streaming and app numbers are high.

Hutchy is always saying ratings are a dead measure and it is streaming etc that is important. I know other people disagree but he seems to make plenty of cash based on that thinking.

Should have been here in Vic. Not happy, DAN!

So it seems Lord McIlroy, he of the pulling the PGA tour pros in line of the new schedule, has played like a clubbie at Augusta and decided to take the Heritage off.

Problem is he already missed his one designated event at the start of the season. Standing by to watch the PGA tour give him an out.

Speith also whinging after Masters that he had played too much golf leading in.

No doubt in my mind these schedule demands on the PGA tour are going to work in LIV's favour, players just aren't going to cop being forced to play so many events each year.

Yep, funny about that.

I don’t think he’ll be too jealous of the blokes who are travelling to the other side of the world to find themselves in Adelaide. It annoys me ending up there after a 45 minute plane ride.

Are you going to LIV Mr B?

I have a spot in the pro am but not sure if I am going to be able to play at this stage. LIV will take it back and pass on to emergency or I can on sell privately if I can't make it.

I have one other person weighing up if they can afford the cost already, but if you are keen let me know.

Not sure how much experience you’ve had playing in pro ams, but I know from your posts on this thread you’re a pretty handy golfer. Just curious to know if you ever get any total hacks playing these things? Or do you have to have a handicap of a certain level to be eligible to play.

Never played in a decent pro am before, only small ones with local pros, I've been to the Alfred Dunhill as a caddy but that's more a celebrity thing.

They did ask for an AGU handicap, not sure if it was compulsory or not but didn't seem to be any need to be under a limit. In this case the cost of entering is so high I doubt you would get anyone that didn't love their golf, so you'd expect most people entering would be at least regular players.

I don't hit the ball as well as I once did, but I can still get around reasonably, be lying if I said I'm not already nervous about the prospect of teeing off in front of a pro though, especially now they have decided to let crowds in!
