Golf

I reckon Punter is a better player, could have easily turned pro.

Smith's short game and scramble is out of this world. Should have been 4 over after 10 yesterday and instead parred every hole. Has the most beautiful relaxed tempo with the putter I've ever seen.
Nah Not even close I don’t reckon. I’ve seen Rick play. Very solid low figure amateur. His brother Drew is better.

Setting up well this tournament . Just hope we get a bit more wind and a bit more bounce. That’ll sort em out.

some good rounds by the Aussies

I reckon you are selling him a bit short, he was a comfortable 0/1 marker for years while playing cricket full time and that was well unders given the regularity he used to go around well under par. You'd want plus 2 or 3 to play him for money. Gary Player told him to quit cricket and turn pro when he was absolutely flying as a cricketer. Would have loved to see what he would have done if golf was his number one.

Once he retired he went to another level and I think he might have had a run at a pro career if there wasn't so much money for him in cricket.
Nah. When he started playing test cricket he was off about 4 or 5 under the old R&A system. Drew was off 2 or 3 and was much better.

Later on and particularly after he retired he got down to scratch or so under the bs USGA system.

All my mates play off scratch and better, ie +2 and beyond and play interstate series etc. They play with Ben Hilfenhaus regularly and every now and then Rick shows up. They all leave Rick in the dust (not Ben…my mates).

Very solid amateur no doubt and could have been a very accomplished one without cricket, but pro golfer is a stretch. Think guys like Player are being complimentary more than anything.

Looking at his surname, you mightn't realise Morikawa's American. Sounds Japanese. Then you see "Collin" with two Ls and think, *smile*, he could be from Black Rock.

Hah hah was thinking the same watching tonight. Colin with two Ls. Gee they butcher the English language Americans. Not that we’re any better I guess. In fact we’re probably worse with our slang. At least we don’t say Neee-saaan though when referring to Nissan. Does my head in every time.

We've given the world Jayden, Jaiden, Jaidyn and Jaden.

It's not even a name.

Who started the trend of using surnames for first names. *smile* that *smile* me. Bet it was the Yanks.
When I meet or hear of an Australian called Montana, I want to find their parents and stab them in the eye.

Things you learn watching golf: a Kiwi with an American accent sounds like an Aussie with an American accent. Frank Nobilo sounds exactly like Wayne Grady.
