General Trade Discussion 2022

Good deal for North I think.

To get a 95% return on an investment that has shown to be as risky as JHF is a good deal IMO.

Port Adelaide and West Coast the losers in that one I reckon.

There doesn't always need to be a winner and a loser in a trade. I think pretty much all 4 clubs got what they wanted.

North - Get 2 of the best 3 picks in the draft, they get a future 1st next year and a couple of later picks they didn't have. Before this they basically had Pick 1 in the draft then nothing.
West Coast - Probably get to draft 2 of the best WA talents, they will be looking at Busslinger, Hewett and Ginbey for their picks. They have a list that is deficient of talent, this enables them to get 2 in, they will get their top 5 picks over the next couple of years. They also get a significant bump in picks for next year which is apparently heavy in WA kids.
GWS - They clearly wanted a crack at the best player in the draft. They want a top quality tall forward and will call Cadmans name. They also gain a few later picks to either satisfy us or use to get their academy kid (Rowston) this year
Port - They get JHF and Rioli. They hold their 2nd from this year. A few pick downgrades next year but nothing too much. They don't have many lost spots so they got rid of a lot of their later picks this year to bring in JHF and Rioli.

Good result for all 4 I think.

We have helped GWS get Cadman which annoys me somewhat, pick 2 was gettable this year, Bowes was the play needed for the best scenario.

Does that mean we get him in 4 years after a bit of development?….

PA the biggest winner, but pretty good deal all round all things considered. Personally I would hate to lose a player like Rioli for a Future 2nd, which is effectively what it is, but when a player wants out you're over a barrel, and I guess his 'value' would be mid first, so not a complete heist or anything.

He'll be on the open market so good luck with that, this was the year to go hard for a key forward. Pick 7 & 12 had some serious pulling power, it was the perfect opening gambit. Pretty much everything GWS has done has been the path I have been advocating for Richmond, you can still get a key forward & Taranto but by spending our capital early we have been shut out of the top 10 horse trading. I have to begrudgingly tip my lid to GWS, they have masterfully manipulated this situation & it is they who have salary cap issues.

Expect GWS after we give them F1 31 & Soldo to give us Hopper & 53
Not too sure about hat now

GWS already have bedford - Tick
GWS already have #1 - Tick
GWS already have picks #1+ #15 + #18 + #19 - Tick

Thats 4 picks inside #20 + Soldo & Bedford
They only need points for their academy kid Rowston which they can get with picks #53+#57
GWS have no use for #30 to select a player

Only thing that they will use it for is trading further up

Im getting a feeling we may hold onto #31 and the trade may become F1+Soldo
"Wishful thinking maybe"

North are idiots and should have taken either the Crows or Richmonds offer last year

GWS would have offered #3+#15 which would have been taken and cadman still goes to GWS
We would have ended up with Wardlaw or Sheezel

Yep, never a truer word spoken. Three first rounders & then you dilute further with the Callaghan pick, leaving you with a pool containing Rachele, Hobbs, Gibcus, Van Rooyen & Johnson. This is also risk dilution, it prevents defections & if they occur it won't be your entire outlay. What North are doing is probably in line with those sentiments but it's a year too late.

We have given them pick 12, that has been instrumental in getting pick 2.
Yes but pick #2 wouldnt get you Cadman bully
GWS were always going to trade for pick #1 to get cadman and they have/Had the assets to get it done

I doubt North trade without pick 2 on the table, there would be riots outside Arden St. GWS couldn't leapfrog the West Coast pick without another top 5 selection. The risk is who North take but by the looks of things they are eying off some mids.

I think they do , There is no standout at #2 or #3 and GWS would have just thrown in the extra's as required

I like your optimism but there was never a chance we end up with Cadman

Do you honestly believe they trade pick 1 for 3 with just pick 15 on the table? I reckon that's well unders.

Forgive me if its been said,

But my quick read of the first paragraph of the story

Says Norf got shafted pretty big in the mega trade?
