General Trade Discussion 2022

Collingwood are crazy if they let Henry go for a second rounder IMO. I think he'll be a gun, good player at worst.

I liked Barratts comment, if he wants to live in Geelong, he can commute, aint that far, plenty of people do it.

How about Geelong. It now appears they will only have to give up a future 3rd rounder in the Bowes deal . *smile* off.

Helps to have friends in high places; or a CEO who spent years in charge of operations in the AFL........................

What a *smile* corrupt rort.

Even though I don't personally rate Bruhn, pick 18 for a pick 12 player that played 17 games this year in just their second season of AFL football is unders on a pure trade value basis.

Seems Geelong get away with it again.

Yeah as has been said, Geelong lowballing everyone. Want the world for their players but won't pay for the ones they want.. Short term it won't all come off, longer term it will come back to bite 'em, its about relationships.

Having said that, they haven't pulled off much yet? Brewin' for 19? Which is thereabouts.

Imagine if the RFC hadve done this… the uproar would’ve been next level.

Had a look at the proposed stillborn mega-trade. 2 comments.

Can't help but wonder if the AFL would have waved it through if Geelong had asked in the same circumstances. Seems harsh to knock it back considering JHF is so young and Port have been very active in the draft.

There is often a clanger in those multi-club trades, and it would have been WC, they dodged a major bullet if the the trade was as reported. They must still be on drugs.

It could be resurrected quite easily. They just need someone to trade a future 2nd for the Pick 36 the trade has Port getting back. They essentially trade out their future 2nd for a later future 2nd. Maybe a club like Melbourne could get involved and trade them a future 2nd being as they will receive a number of future picks from Freo as part of the Jackson trade.

I think that overall trade is actually quite a good one all round personally. If someone like Melbourne got involved switching that future 2nd for 36 with port then I think it gets over the line and pretty much every one of those teams wins.

Yeah I get that but is was Rioli too. Just 2 for 8 and 12 is fine, I wouldn't do it but adds up.

Its more than that though.

Its 2 for 8, 12 and a future 2nd (Ports). Rioli is basically a swap for Freos 3rd. Reckon that works for West Coast.

If I was west Coast I wouldn't do that trade with Dudoro's money.

Trade allegedly was:
WC Out: Junior Rioli, picks No.2, 40
Trade in: Picks No.8, 12, 2023 second-round pick (tied to Port Adelaide), 2023 third-round pick (tied to Fremantle)

WC give up 2 chips with currency, 2 and Rioli.

2 for 8 and 12, I wouldn't do it but fine

Pick 40 v future third, cancels out

so its Rioli for Port future second, say pick 28-32? That is giving away a player any club would be rapt to have. I'd crawl across broken glass to get Rioli for pick 30.

I loathe Weiderman but thats a good risk reward play by the Bombers. Solid back up forward/ruck.

something we should have looked at with no obvious replacement for Jack coming through (yet).

IMO it should be F1 & 31 or F1 & Soldo anything more Is overs

What we're giving them is way overs and makes me wonder if we are being too nice, while they are playing hard ball.

That’s right. Good deal for WC esp if they like kids from WA a bit down the Draft.

There is also no doubt that the lure of Geelong and the surf coast lifestyle compared to Melbourne is becoming more and more a factor. It is a society trend, the move to rural and semi rural areas is quite large.
Living in torquay and being an afl footballer is pretty enticing
All AFL clubs should lobby the Andrews government to quadruple state housing on the surf coast:cool:

I don't think they would have used 40, so I suspect they are seeing that have little value, and several of the other trades that have been done are not valuing Picks around 40 very high especially when compared to future picks.

That supports my point. 40 for future 3rd, who cares? Chump change.

Why didn't we do it?

I don't know. Probably because our CEO wasn't in charge of operations at the AFL for years before going back to his own club. Like 16 other clubs had no knowledge that this was coming.

If you think the Geelong didn't have inside knowledge of this and haven't been talking to Bowes for ages, so that they could benefit from the deal, I've got a bridge to sell you.

Apparently GAJ gave a glowing reference for Jack Bowes. They spent one whole season together when GAJ was already checked out and trying to work his way back to Geelong. After taking all of the GC money (whilst demanding an additional $10K to attend the B&F function; whilst captain!) and then realising they were no hope of winning a flag.

Yeah all seems legit

Whatever, the key point, for me at least, is Rioli for bugger-all

He likely will be though. Nearly 28 at the start of next season. Missed a lot of football over the last 3 years (obviously for various reasons, injury and the drug issue) but those reasons will certainly impact on trade value.

The rules were made clear to all clubs before the trade period started. We could have made an offer to Bowes but decided not to. If it's such a good deal, I wonder why we didn't.
