General Trade Discussion 2022

Is it a ploy for us not to have delisted any players yet in the hope other clubs offer late picks to trade?

Seeing as we won't have any picks in at least the first 3 rounds after we bring Hopper in?

I reckon a bit of waiting to see if we can trade them, but also seeing how many picks we are left with in the ND this year. We will need to delist at least 1 from our main list (in order to either promote 3 rookies, or promote 2 rookies and take at least 1 in the ND), its a bit of a surprise that Martyn hasn't been delisted yet, maybe someone is considering a trade to burgeon relationships, and trade us a pick that they won't use for him or RCD (essentially DFA for them, but improving their trading relationship with us).

Ah, maybe. They don't say that in 'The Verdict' bit though. Who gets the future first? Norf? So they get pick 2, 3 and Port's future first for JHF and pick 1? That's salvaging from a wreckage if they can do that.
AFL.com.au can reveal the deal would have seen North Melbourne end up with picks No.2, 3, 33, 53 and a future first-round pick for losing Horne-Francis to Port Adelaide and for shifting down the draft order from pick one to three.

Does anyone else find the asking price or reported trade value between Jason Horne Francis and Luke Jackson ridiculous? Or is it just me.

I loathe Weiderman but thats a good risk reward play by the Bombers. Solid back up forward/ruck.

He's no forward/ruck. Reckon that has been proven.

They'll be getting him in to play key back. That is his best chance of making it. It also better suits his skillset.

Also Essendon's biggest need.

Decent play at the price.

Tom Browne reporting that Soldo is still deciding whether to be involved in the deal, and if not, a deal will get done for Hopper using just our picks.

I can say this is 100% true, I was aware of this on Friday and was going to post about it but thought best to keep my mouth shut. Ivan told a few of us that he was just not feeling it. Now it's out, that he is still thinking it over, I can elaborate a bit.

Ivan doesn't really want to go but would if it helped the club get hopper, says a lot about his character. Said they have not tapped him on the shoulder, the choice is entirely his. This is why it's been so hard for him because had the club said go, take the offer from GWS, it would've made his decision much easier.

When Soldo's name was first put up for discussion most just assumed as he is from Canberra he'll go but the truth be known he dislikes the place lol.
GWS are super keen on him. Now whether he still ends up signing on the dotted line that I don't know but he has been mulling over it all weekend.

Personally speaking, if we can do the deal with just picks then id be rapt for him to stay put.

Soldo has to do whats best for him and his career

He should be looking at where he gets the most of his career and where he can earn the most and thats by having a longer career.

GWS have Preuss (who can only play 10 games a year and is a spud)
Briggs , Young Ruck who knows what he becomes
Flynn who is more a 2nd ruck and will be a free agent next year and could be on the move

Had a look at the proposed stillborn mega-trade. 2 comments.

Can't help but wonder if the AFL would have waved it through if Geelong had asked in the same circumstances. Seems harsh to knock it back considering JHF is so young and Port have been very active in the draft.

There is often a clanger in those multi-club trades, and it would have been WC, they dodged a major bullet if the the trade was as reported. They must still be on drugs.

Yeah dunno. The guts of that trade for WC is trading 2 for 8 and 12. Two players instead of one, most likely WA players they have in mind eg Ginbey, Busslinger, Hewett.

Both Ginbey and Busslinger v Wardlaw ? I’m giving that serious thought. Not to mention F2 and F3 for 40. Rioli ? Meh. Seems pretty good to me.

If it's just a F3 then I'd prefer to keep Soldo. Is salary part of the deal? How would the picks change if Soldo stays?

Yeah I get that but is was Rioli too. Just 2 for 8 and 12 is fine, I wouldn't do it but adds up.

CATS’ HUGE STEAL, WHO BLINKS FIRST ON BIG DEALS?

Geelong is set to secure Jack Bowes and the cherished pick 7 for a future third-rounder as Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs wait on blockbuster trades that will allow them to set up premiership tilts.
How is it that the Cats are getting such great deals? Or are they really such good picks?

Geelong are successful on the field, and they have created a very good environment for their players. Even though he acts like a goose in the coaching box, Chris Scott is very much liked by his players, in much the same way as Hardwick at Richmond. They get great deals because the players are willing to sacrifice money in order to be there.

This has gotta be frog *smile* doesn't it? How in the hell does Brisbane expect anything back for Dunkley when we gave up 12 & 19 for Taranto? Not to mention the price we pay fopr Hopper will be miles above what that trade for Dunkley will cost Brisbane. Why is there an expectation that we must pay through the teeth whilst other clubs should be able to do deals on the cheap? Plenty would argue that Dunkley is at least the equal of both Hopper and Taranto; he has just won a B&F.

The price Brisbane pays for Dunkley should match what we are paying for Hopper and Taranto. Many argue points value is irrelevant but it is really the only way to line up the value of equivalent deals isn't it? I'd be interested to see how these match up once they are done.

It won't matter if Taranto and Hopper get us another flag but I gotta say I'll be a bit annoyed if the Lions get Dunkley for a much cheaper price. They made a PF this year FFS; the Dogs should have no interest in making them stronger without paying a high price.

If anyone went after Weiderman.
Lyold would bag them bit because he is going to Essendon 'he worth the risk'
A 3rd rounder for Essendon is a pick in 50 not 100's
And he reckons Setterfield is a ball winning midfielder. Ok yeah.
Kano and Lyold spent the entire morning talking up Geelong and saying the inclusions of Hopper & Tarranto won't be a automatic push for top 4.
Lyold got rolled by a caller that said all the Geelong players you mentioned we match and we have better. The bloke said who's Geelongs Bolton? Who's Geelongs Balta etc.
The bloke mentioned Sony, Rioli, Lynch, Baker Etc. Fly catcher had no response.
He let Kano respond with but Prestia never plays all year, does Dangerfield?
Grimes misses games due to soft tissue injuries, what happens to Duncan.
Stengle kicked 53 goals,, Cumberland has him covered in Ave per game.
THEY ARE *smile* SCARED!

There is also no doubt that the lure of Geelong and the surf coast lifestyle compared to Melbourne is becoming more and more a factor. It is a society trend, the move to rural and semi rural areas is quite large.
Living in torquay and being an afl footballer is pretty enticing

Port were going to offer 2 1st rounders, & 2 2nd rounders for The Nth kid.
That's properly the most selfish thing I've seen by a coach ever.
He knows he is gone
