General Trade Discussion 2022

Cats lose out ridiculously if the pick trade with Brisbane went as reported.

Basically traded picks 38,48,55 and future 2nd and 4th rounders for Henry
To me that is a indication of how worthless these picks 30+ are this year
They are being thrown around like confetti and even the picks 10-30 dont seem to be valued like most years

judging by this it appears to be 6-7 top liners and 10-15 good players and then the rest is just a pot luck type of thing

You would have to laugh if GWS, with all the picks they have amassed, 3, 12, 15, 18 and 19 and maybe our 31 they end up can’t using, or lolnorf turn around and say they won’t trade pick 1 for some of their picks.

The last thing GWS want is another batch of top picks that will end up for midfielders or flankers.
I would take 3,12 and 15, and give them Taranto.

This Deal to get Hopper wouldve been sorted if we still had a Cj, Higgins, Chol or Ellis still on the list.
I'm hoping the club is trying to convince a Ralphsmith or Ross opportunities will be less if they stay at Punt Rd.
Ralphsmith would get 22 games at GWS tomorrow, not for us.

What pick was Bruhn? My memory of draft night was that he didn't stop pouting after GWS selected him.

For Mackie's early bravado, pick 18 seems a lot on his output.

I reckon its pretty bang on. Hasn't set the world on fire but shown a bit, should be an OK player. But thats me. I think we got TT for unders. And yes Mackie is getting a dose of reality. Negotiation isn't all blue sky.

Hope they don't get Henry cheap, will be a good player IMO.

However, I thought clubs altered contracts all the time. Isn‘t that how they get into these backended arrangements? The media are always speculating that in order to fit the big name free agents in, clubs go to the other players on their lists and alter their contracts along these same lines.
Yep. Been going on for years n years

Makes the Taranto deal look slightly cheap.

The best way to look at what we paid for Taranto is: we got pick 19 for Coleman-Jones, who we got with the pick 20 we got along with pick 25 (Balta) when we traded the picks 15 and 52 we got for Lids. Wrapped up in the CJ trade were our picks 42 and 47 last year and this year's 4th-rounder but we also got Tarrant and pick 40, which we bundled with pick 38 and this year's 3rd-rounder to get pick 27 last year, which became pick 28 which we used to draft Sonsie. So as you can plainly see, it's really Lids and picks 12, 38, 42, 47, 49 and 67 for Balta, Taranto, Sonsie and Tarrant.

Yeah, but did we win????

I like the taranto deal and dont think we under paid but also dont believe we over paid , It was a fair trade
24 year old inside bull with great defensive traits with a massive tank that has proven he can play in big games and entering his prime with 8+ years left on his career.

Pick #13 + #21 wont get you a pick #5-#8 and thats about his value , teams look like they dont rate this years talent highly and looking to move out into next year

Im excited about when he can produce in our midfield

Not sure how rugby works but players are contracted to the AFL so when clubs sign them all up it is literally impossible to end up over because it is all centralised.
Seems though that the AFL is more than happy to allow clubs to future over salary contract their players by a rather large margin as there's always trades available every year to enable last minute rectifying of potential salary cap rorting.
Clubs getting to retain or even poach players from other clubs to enable them to remain or get within flag contention, then rewrite n back end contracts before a sudden salary dump fire sale.
More n bigger holes in the AFL salary cap system then a well worn sponge.

It's really about making room in the bucket. Each year you have about a third of your list out of contract and they all want to go up so you have to find some space.

In a perfect list management world you have older guys tipping out and making that room. Problem for teams like GWS and Gold Coast is they have had young lists without much tipping out going on, and have to overpay the young ones to stay.

How the *smile* are Brisbane gonna get Dunkley? Instead of trading down they are trading away early picks for junk picks. The only thing they have left is next years rd1 pick to offer.
Looking like Brisvegas more than happy to bend the Woofers over, Brisvegas having a greedy session, lots of cheap n nasty junk picks for their two F/S selections n Dunkley for minimum chips free salt n vinegar n don't even think about em paying for a pickled onion. Dunkley's made things fairly difficult though, first he wants Essendrugs, then he wants Pordadalayde n now he wants Brisvegas.

They haven't been clear but looks like the basis will be:

Giants - Pick 1
North - Picks 2 and 3 and Ports F1
West Coast - Picks 8 and 12
Port - JHF and Rioli

Article I read said a number of other pick swaps. Reckon some future picks from North will head to West Coast and possibly Pick 33 from Port.

I'm thinking something like

Giants - Pick 1
North Picks 2 and 3 and Ports F1
West Coast - Picks 8, 12 33 and Norths F2
Port - JHF and Rioli

Might be some minor adjustments too, but seems like that it likely to be the jist of it

West Coast should be pretty happy with that, likely walk away with Busslinger and Hewett.
Giants will take Cadman if this happens
North probably take Wardlaw and Sheezel
Not sure what all the options were for the clubs trying to shuffle a mega deal. Pordadalayde apparently got a knock back from H.Q. over trying to fudge out their future first and second picks to enable the deal, so they'll be burning the candle trying to re work something.

When the trading of future picks came in, the AFL brought in rules to stop clubs getting in a mess. Over time those rules have been relaxed and yep, clubs have got themselves into a mess.

So if, as reported, GWS were asking for F1, 31 and Soldo, and according to news from someone’s dinner date, that was agreed to by all parties with the deal to go through on Monday,- but GWS have now changed their minds and want Balta instead of or in addition to Soldo….
then the arrangements have now broken down?
(Surely Balta wouldn’t agree to that and punt road would never agree to it either).

This is GWS backing out not us.

We may have to wait but it would seem to make it much more likely that Hopper will eventually get to us for free.
