GAME DAY Tiges v Suns

I've watched tigers as a member for 43 years now and our problems stem from a few different areas.
1 we lack pace and agility.
2 we have many injuries.
3 get cotch to 300,then retire.
4. Crimes is playing at early 20s level.
5.Dusty is on 1.2 million but performing at half that rate.
6.we need to get games into youth and accept the punishment.
7i.heard a stat that says Richmond hasn't won a game without lynch since 2021.

I was at the game. Haven’t read this thread but I have some comments

We were poor but it was a strange game. When the ball was in dispute we probably just shaded them. That’s why when I think back on the game a number of our midfielders had decent games.

The issue was 3 things
1. We were terrible when we didn’t have the ball. I don’t know what our plan is but we can’t lock the ball in the front half anymore, the suns just walzed out with little pressure. It was far too easy. Our zone defence is way too easy to get through.
2. We have no structure in attack that I can see and no one to take a mark in the f50. Our ball use going into the F50 was poor but to be honest so was the suns’, both teams had a lot of intercepts in the back half.
3. Our kicking for goal was horrible. We had our chances but we blew them with poor conversion. Same as last week.

We are clearly playing with hesitation, a lack of cohesion and no confidence. This can change but we have no belief at the moment. We do need to make changes but we have no real back ups with the injury list.

It’s pretty disappointing right now but I haven’t joined the darksiders yet.

Playing like busted a-holes at the moment - team looks very disorganised and very dis-connected. Who knows why - but maybe too many changes, too many inexperienced players, older players no longer capable, injuries etc. We can forget finals - maybe just focus on basics, getting games into young players (although after Sonsie’s poor effort today?) ….at least try and get a game plan that these current players can execute. Very very disappointing that we seem to have fallen away so badly so quickly.

Little bug in my mind is dual Captains which I am not a fan of. Now has any team won a Flag with dual Captains ?. It is not apply with Nackers out at the moment but Grimes has two much to do down back. You need a general in the guts & we aint got one at the moment. Dusty for what he is getting a year time for him to earn a his quid as a leader except being pampered up forward. All up I suppose it is Coach's call.

Got to back the kids now.

We have no other option. No point sending Sonsie back to the vfl after today. Just got to keep getting games into them. Get Dow and Bauer into the team and give them a run too. The only way out of this is moving on to the next generation of talent and seeing what they have to offer.

Unfortunately for the champs the switch just can’t be flicked anymore and waiting/hoping for it to happen will hurt us even more.. I admit I thought we still could do it.. I was wrong - no shame in it…players like Cotchin and Grimes have given everything they had to this club and have delivered us 3 glorious flags. There isn’t a club in the land that wouldn’t swap to be in our position with the 3 trophy’s in 5 years now in the cabinet.

Now it’s back to the drawing board - hit free agency again, trade some talent to get ourselves back into the draft, hit the mid season, rookie and pre season drafts hard… build the future around the mid aged guys like Taranto, Hopper, Bolton, Baker, Rioli, Balta etc.

We can all accept Cotch, JR etc are past it and their legs cant take them where they want. What is of real concern is blokes like Ross who should have been playing manic football to ensure he keeps his spot. He was budging all game. That tells me something not right with this group.

Ross bludges every game. Its why he plays VFL because that's his level.

I'm probably in a similar boat to you Sin. I'm not prepared to go across to the dark side yet either.

I've normally backed Dimma and the match committee in, and Dimma said we'll see a few things that they haven't tried before. It seems that that masterstroke was to play Marlion in the forward setup, which isn't necessarily a bad move, he's quick, tough, can kick for goal etc, however the biggest problem, was that the genius plan meant that we played a rotation of Cotch and Sonsie on the wing. Neither is really pushed as being an endurance beast and Ellis absolutely schooled them, resulting in Marlion returning to the wing before halt time. Was probably 1 of the most baffling decisions I've seen Dimma make. I've actually got o problem with him trying Marlion forward, but if you do, pick Banks who's actually a wingman, instead of finding square pieces and trying to put them into a circle whole.

The same thing that has impacted us in the first 6 rounds did for us again. I counted 3 goals to them from D50 turnovers. Baltas scrubber quick in the 1st, then a kick across goal that was intercepted (might have been Young?) and 1 other. I think it might have been Vlastuin but I can't remember exactly but I certainly banked them as 3 D50 turnover goals.

The lack of pressure was evident today. The Marvel screens spout out a lot of stats, and the 1 that barely changed all game was kicking efficiency. I think they went at something like 75%+ for the whole game which is way ahead of the AFL average. I think 70%+ kicking efficiency is usually regarded as elite. As you say, the way they managed to transition out of their D50 and through our zone and into our D50 was absurd.

Agree with you on F50 t00. Jack was manned up well. I was disappointed in Cumbo today, his leading patterns were poor, and he was constantly led to the ball by his defender. Cotch has next to no forward instinct, and we pushed Balta forward in the last - he needs to stay back. Again has very little forward instinct. There was 1 specific occasion, Juddy had a good 1 on 1 win about 20m outside of footy, but was then running towards the boundary line to collect the ball. He kicked the ball to the only logical place for the ball to be kicked (into the pocket), Balta was leading the opposite way, to actually kick that to Balta, I think Juddy would have had to kick it 70m!! Forward connection at the moment couldn't be more off and its not all the ball carriers issue.

Finally, I don't think the Soldo / MIller / Ryan trio worked. I thought it left us short of run. Ryan was good in the ruck IMO. Miller was awful in the ruck and awful around the ground. Soldo was ok, but frankly, mark the ball about 25-30m out on a slight angle, you have to take the shot. We were within 3 goals at that point having kicked the previous 2, so he kicks it to the pocket to a 1 on 1 (and dumped it on his head so was never winning that). They slingshot the ball and kick a goal that ices the game. Horrible decision from Soldo when that close to goal.

Agree with the lot of that.

We didn’t need Miller today and frankly he did nothing anyway. I also was quite impressed with Ryan when in the ruck.

The D50 turnovers were horrible. I wasn’t sure at the ground what happened with the Vlastuin one. Did the umpire call not 15 or play on ?

The suns’ kicking efficiency was so high because it was a training drill, no pressure at all.

We played far too far off our opponents all day. Giving up countless 15 metre outlet kicks as a result

Flossy got bumped/smothered just as he entered the kicking motion…so he sort of shinned it and the bounce as per all day went straight to GC…. Get the kick away 1 sec earlier, looks a winner… but here we are. If it’s that one, I’m willing to cut the slack as the switch was on.

He took way too long to dispose of it though which is the issue with what he did. He was 15m from our goal, he surely couldn't have thought he had as much time as he tried to take. If he did think he had that much time = no awareness whatsoever.
