GAME DAY Tiges v Suns

Who's brilliant idea was it to play Pickett as a fwd today? Probably one of our best runners
I wonder who? Probably same one that keeps shifting Balta forward for no effect. Pickett is one of our 'only' runners.

Sh!!t game, Sh!!t venue and we were sh!!tter than the opposition.

Last week we pressured Melbourne, we never let them get a run on, our positioning was so much better, We were competitive against one of the premiership favourites. WTF happened?

When we look bad we look very static.

A few posters here have pointed to the fact that it isn't just the player with ball in hand who is not making good decisions, it is also that there is no-one to kick it to, there is no movement.

Yet again we saw players standing to receive a pass. You don't stand to receive a pass you move to receive a pass, it creates space, it makes it harder for the opposition to predict where the ball is going. It is happening too often.

Many times today I saw GC switch to the corridor, it wasn't being defended, so many GC players finding space, and space in the corridor.

But could we find space? No. We just never seem to be in the right space.

I recall one centre clearance where Dusty got the ball and kicked forward. But, it was under pressure and a dump kick forward. When they got a clearance they had a player available outside to get a clean clearance. Why can't we do that?

While out goal kicking looks inaccurate, and they missed a few easy shots (every team does, every week) it was also because our inside 50 entries were just rubbish. No cohesion, no movement by the forwards. The only choice when the forwards aren't creating space is to bang it forward. They got it out way too easy too, always had multiple options to get the ball out beyond 50.

Something is clearly wrong.

Don't know if it is lack of confidence, the pressure of not performing leading to a lack of desire, lack of pace and run, I don't know, but there are clearly issues.

As for Docklands, I have no idea what it is about that place but it has a complete lack of atmosphere. Has always been like this. I've been there with decent size crowds, no atmosphere. I've been there at a neutral game with one of the teams a home team, no atmosphere. I can't put my finger on it but that stadium, it just seems to suck the life out of the game and out of the crowd. Even when the play is right in front of you it just feels like you are watching it on TV, not like you are at a live game. There's something wrong with that place.

Main issue with today's game was the lack of desire to run both ways. Lost count how many times our players were walking back when we lost the ball. Shai probably the biggest culprit
Watched Shai...he walks ..
Actually walks when opposition teams sprint foward..he wouldnt get a game with that attitude in most sides
Watchec the crowes pies game and the presssure from.both sides was enormous ..

Agree, I felt it too.
Mind you I was by myself and not too many people standing in that area appeared to be too talkative.
Stood on the concourse at the back of Level 1 for the whole game behind the cheer squad.
Right near the pocket where Ryan kicked that running goal near boundary line in 2nd quarter.

There was no buzz.
It really is a lifeless place.
I think most of us would prefer flying to Metricon rather than this dump of a Stadium.
I jokingly asked my mate if he was travelling interstate (as in to this ground) for the game but he was crook and stayed home.
I think he was the lucky one in the end.

Getting really tired of watching a different inept set of forwards week after week, then lamenting that we lose close games and can't score. Had a gutfull.
You cant just make forwards because they can play a bit. We keep trying to find one...... and when we have them we give them away or play them out of position. See Daniel.

Is it time for Rioli forward again?

He is doing a brilliant job off half back but it's an area of the ground that we can easily cover (Short/Baker) while our small forwards are completely non-existent and opposition teams are just walking it out of our D50.

We need someone down there who can Marie Kondo things up a bit and spark some joy.

There's a second hand toy sale tomorrow on PRE. Going cheap as they are slightly damaged from being thrown from the cot.

Completely agree on Marvel, it is the most lifeless venue. Walking into the G is an amazing experience. Walking into Marvel removes a bit of your soul

And then the Bombers.
The forward efforts were appalling, but would like to ask what forwards do we have?
JR tries hard but past it mostly now. Cumberland also tries but not quite up to it yet, but in fairness, the delivery to him is poor.
Unless we can pull a rabbit out of the hat we are destined for cellar dwellers this year, or close to it.
6 goals for the whole game!!! That is enough to lose any game.

another simplistic point of view -

but make the set shots and we win.

it was the same against Melbourne ..

Ross bludges every game. Its why he plays VFL because that's his level.
In fairness it was a horrible game where no one stood out. Ross could’ve been a direct swap for Prestia but no, we play him on the wing and then send probably our best winger into the forward line. WTF. Anyway Ross is too good for VFL and not quite AFL standard. Give him a 6 week block in his best position and stop with this one week in two weeks out - must be sapping his confidence.
