Game Day Tiges v Port

Biggest concern I have is our tackling imho it’s been down all year , we just seem to have a lot of tackles broken

Contested marks, marks under pressure around the ground as well. Put both down to general intensity level I guess. It only has to be a bees *smile* off to leave you exposed against a good side who are on.

Jack was a bit frustrating, dropped a couple of contested marks he should have swallowed considering his experience and standing. Got himself in posi superbly a couple of times then bobbled the mark.

Watching the replay.

Quarter time, both teams walking off.

Dixon arguing with Jonas and whinging about delivery into the forward line. Pointing and waving arms around.

Backline walking off, Broady and Bakes tap Balta lovingly with words of encouragement.

These spuds won't beat us again in a Final

Anyone , Lee got a comparison of the ages, games played, height & weight of both sides.

I reckon we were less experienced, Port physically taller & heavier then us?? Want to see if I am right or wrong..

Out of interest is there anyone who can give us some player and team stats, age, height, games etc. I think Port have a pretty youthful team too. Their young guys are rippers. As are ours I reckon.
And the morning after I can't help but think what a game it was. It was a *smile* cutter.

Pretty darn close actually. Difference is in missing players for us that would have put us in front in games goals age, I think Port might be onto something! Hopefully they are peaking too early.

And until Caddy's brain implosion we were STILL right in that game.
Just on that...Caddy was running back level with the umpire to be on the mark when the ump indicated it. Dustin had definitely dropped off and was not going to stand the mark. Why was it a second 50 ?

Because it was Richmond

That's a VERY good question.
He hasn't called play on, and they are heading to the spot to take the 50m penalty.
Why can't Caddy run there also to man the mark?

I havnt watched fox for ages before yesterday.

Cant beleive it could get worse.

Rucuitto is very bitter we helped him destroy his club utterly.

He lead an hour long discussion on 1. The end of jack reiwoldt ( who then became equal leading goal scorer) and 2. The Groping Scandal

Then after the game lead a long discussion on how port got shafted by the umpires, despite getting twice as maby frees and 70% of our 11 being in d50

Jeez.

The rules say that no opposition player may approach within 2mt. of the player awarded the 50mt penalty including moving in front of the player which Caddy did.

He was warned at least twice to move out of the way but kept running on front of the Port player holding him up.

Something that you may see in bush footy from a smart arse player but at AFL level it's gobsmackingly dumb.

yeah. Port got more frees, but most were there. We got two goals from frees or non-calls that we shouldn't have got.

Caddy was an idiot. We've got nothing to complain about re umpiring in this game.

His instinct told him not to let the opponent get a break. It's not a situation that crops up all that often - he looked confused and panicked but should've just stopped running when the umpire instructed him to get out of the play.

Umpiring has been rubbish all year .. but it didn’t cost us this game... Boak, Wines, Powell-Pepper and Rockliff completely dominating the midfield did.

That’s why Dimma called it ‘dumb’.
And pretty upset up at the box when they went to him.

The Port midfield played a very hard committed game and we simply didn't have enough contributors to stay with them for four quarters. We did well to still be in front at three quarter time. Stack, Pickett and Lambo combined for 21 possessions and Caddy wasn't much better. We can't compete with the other top teams without at least one if not two of Cotch, Prestia and Edwards in to help Dusty and Shai.

Excellent assessment.
I can't think of one player that actually won his position (kmac maybe? Shorty?)
and I don't count Dusty or $hai cos our midfield were crushed.
Penetrated by umpires, carried a few passengers, horrible build up to the game with the chol stuff, the flight, 4 day break

...

Port cannot play much better than that, and we have so many guns to come back.

And until Caddy's brain implosion we were STILL right in that game.

Lots of positives to come from that one
That's just about as good as they can play other than maybe a bit better goal kicking. Some of big Charlie's shots at goal (I think of him as an angry Levi Casboult). Egg got beaten. George unsighted. Lambert was very quiet, but he'll bounce right back.

We got done on their home ground, their crowd, umpires were sh!t, and we were still well in it till Caddy's daydream.

We've got 4 - 6 of our best 22 to come back. Cotch, Houli, DTLD, Nank, Prestia and (maybe) Edwards.
We'll play finals on our (new) home ground. Haven't lost there since Adam was a boy.

a professional footballer should know the rules. he had the umpire right there reminding him as well.
