Game Day Tiges v Port

With the benefit of a few hours reflection and a few gins. That’s a game that creates a premiership. The other side were good, tackled brilliantly. They have slept in their own beds for a month. We learned a bit. Under heat - eggs and Daniel need to improve. George needs a rest. Camden, Shai and Mabs can be relied on. Six dual premiership heroes to fit in. Let them have this one.
✅

Never a realistic chance. AFL shafted us.

3hr flight on the day of the game after a days less rest than Port - how the f does that work.
Umpiers went in dry as usual.
If I ever have to put up with Fat Ed and Dwayne comment a Richmond game again I will fair dinkum spew up. 2 of the biggest Richmond haters going around.

I’m sure port were happy with that win but geez I know who has more aces up their sleeve for when it counts.

Yep, doesn’t guarantee we will beat them ,

But I know who my money will be on if we Meet again , are back to full strength , with both teams on a 7 day break

And with sensible umpiring.

No excuses from me.

Apart from the third quarter Port were the better team on the night.

That begs the question...why.

3 games in 11 days, Extra players in the umpires, and maybe the adverse publicity over the past few days.

Then the travel from GC to Adelaide for a home ground advantage.

These are not excuses for losing but just facts.

Wonder how much the poor publicity from the media played a part in their minds.

Cotchin's wife being pilloried all over the place, the "groping" scandal...naughty boys.

Do you remember that Collingwood had 14 frees in the first quarter, which is more than we had for the entire game...11 only to 23.

Just the facts guys and girls.

Just cop it on the chin.
We can't win every week.
No excuses.
The final margin flattered us as I thought that Port were all over us for most of the game.

We played good footy, they played better. Let's move on - our best games are ahead of us.

Thought Caddy was a liability tonight. Egg too but he is just a kid. Hopefully they learn from this.
Caddy gets better with games under his belt while egg will be replaced with houli, good signs with rioli playing wing and getting touches.

We have a lot of upside. I enjoyed watching the game. Hate loosing
the players that cant perform or pull out of contest will be replaced as our seniors come in.
Lots of up side... A loss isn't a bad thing

Yeah apart from being smashed in the final quarter ,

I think it’s fair to say they were the better team , and the scoreboard flattered us Up to 3/4 time anyway

Biggest concern I have is our tackling imho it’s been down all year , we just seem to have a lot of tackles broken

It was a cracking Satdy arvo game of midwinter footy, Haz. Their big men were too big. Dixon and Ladhams were both enormous and Georgiades is a young Dermie.
We are definitely exposed in the backline against a tall opposition.

Need Astbury back to deal with a gorilla.

Tend to agree.
Final margin flattered us. To me it was a 6-7 goal margin.

3 games within 10 days and with an inexperienced group. Port had more experience and stuck their tackles and spoils. They shouldn't get too carried away with this win.
We really missed Cotchin, Edwards and Prestia in the middle.

When I thought about this game it struck me that overall we didn’t play all that well, yet with their best game, at home and a full list, they still struggled to get over the top of us. That’s reason for optimism.

Out of interest is there anyone who can give us some player and team stats, age, height, games etc. I think Port have a pretty youthful team too. Their young guys are rippers. As are ours I reckon.
And the morning after I can't help but think what a game it was. It was a *smile* cutter.

Excellent assessment.
I can't think of one player that actually won his position (kmac maybe? Shorty?)
and I don't count Dusty or $hai cos our midfield were crushed.
Penetrated by umpires, carried a few passengers, horrible build up to the game with the chol stuff, the flight, 4 day break

...

Port cannot play much better than that, and we have so many guns to come back.

And until Caddy's brain implosion we were STILL right in that game.

Lots of positives to come from that one
