GAME DAY Tiges V Giants

Agree. There were a lot of token efforts rather than genuine and hungry ones tonight - same as all year really.

Never played the game but there is something that seems obvious to me about our work at contests. We hang back and play the man, not the ball. That allows more committed players to go in hard and get the pill. Our players can look like they are making an effort by tackling the player who is receiving the ball after it is dug out, but that player knows the pressure is there and keeps their arms free and offloads. Our opposition get to keep control of the ball. It might be confidence, or effort or something else? But it means we lose contested ball. It means players find it easier than in previous years to beat our pressure.

He backed our gameplan to overcome the hurdles, as it did the last two years. It's not possible to make wholesale changes after the pre-season. He spent eight years building it and the AFL kicked it over like a sandcastle. Hope he lets loose at the presser.

Have to take the injuries to key players into account. The game plan he built could swap a player in or out in a normal season with the VFL side well versed and trained. But 2021 has been a challenge and I'm not surprised we weren't able to cover those challenges. I'm disappointed in the capitulations we've seen, bitterly disappointed. But I understand a bit of it.

What will change for the Tigers next year?
What will be different?
My take is that unless some how we unearth a couple of excellent midfielders we will suffer the same demise as this year.
It is such a glaring weakness.
It was certainly Black Friday for our Tigers.
Need some fresh ideas in the Coaches box. I look at it like 2016. Have a good offseason , draft well and a new game plan up and running and we can reload and have a crack. I think the guts of this team still has 1-2 years left in it

Reckon it's actually perfect opportunity for Moju. How the *smile* else is he gunna learn what's required for senior footy if he doesn't get in and play a couple of games?
We should have stuck Cummerbund in for a couple of games as well n R2D2 and Not Dusty too.

We've been stumbling n staggering around like a punch drunk boxer most of this season, pretending we had enough left in the tank to challenge for one more flag.
Cujo, Raaalllph, Stacka, Moju, R2D2, Cummerbund, Not Dusty, Rossy, Dow n Nigel are the players who are contending to make up our future core, yet we've barely got enough games into most of them to fully know what they've got.

Rest n refresh after this season finishes n then a massive pre season for all n it'll be more than time for the youngsters to start pushing hard to shift the older generation into the Tiger Legends retirement home
cant learn how much young rioli needs in afl, hes played a handfull of games in 2 years, needs pre seasons, game plan, better fitness, footy smarts, learn how to position yourself to get a touch,at this stage young rioli isnt up to vfl, patients needed,
tigers were wrong to play him early with no development ,hes getting 5 touches a game, expecting too much with a guy whos had almost no footy in 2 years,
he will make it but its too early,he didnt play footy in 2020 and needs time.

Also need to change our game plan.
We still have a very average kicking skill and our plan is to kick long into forward line which causes oppo backs to negate.

In hindsight we had too many kids who really struggled in what was an elimination final. As much as we criticise these players, pickett mcintosh george caddy and aarts should have played.

I think last night was also about development for the future. Those players you mentioned excluding Macintosh are in the firing line in not being there next year.

You don't look to the future in an elimination final.

We repeatedly kick long into a crowded forward line. That is our issue.

We need to kick long to Tommy one on one. Keep other forwards away from him and give him a chance to earn his keep.

We keep playing into the opponent's hands by playing other forwards too close to the goal. Tommy marks or brings the ball to ground and we hit it at speed.

Richo and Nathan Brown did this brilliantly for a short time.

Two games in he's getting as many possessions as Georgie n Aartsy have been getting n kicking more goals as well.
Can't get games or continuity in the VFL at the moment, cooties panic keep shutting it down. It's not like we're asking Moju to play an entire season n death riding him to be a star. He's been given a couple of games to get a feel for the levels required for senior footy, to show faith in what he's got as a young player and to help him invest in the extra work he'll need to do over pre season to develop into the next level.

We've had to debut n push some senior games into a heap of kids this year n I hope they push up a couple more kids for next weeks last game. They're gunna be a massive part of our future that's arriving in a hell of a rush.
What better way to develop and keep them invested in working hard n improving than pushing some end of season games into them?

They whinge and cry every year that players leave GWS, Williams, Wilson, Shield, Adams but they get gold in return.
They have Collingwoods first pick this year. another quality kid to sit next to Green #10, Braun #12, Aish #4, Cummings #20, O'Halloren #22, Stone #15.
They still have A grade quality with Greene, Ward, Tarranto, Hopper, Whitfield, Haynes

I think they know where the team is at. I reckon they knew we couldn't really make a push into finals with the guys we have out and said what the hey if we make it with some kids all good and well and they get to look at the finals. If not we get some games into them and see if they have what it takes

What players out? We had our entire midfield. GWS had more players missing. The MC have been poor this year. Perhaps missing some of the assistants that left.

Houli, Astbury, Broad , Balta - Basically 3/4 of our starting backline. Nank clearly not fit and cant jump. We were also missing the best player in the comp.

We also had 5 juniors playing all with less than 20 games experience (MRJ, CJ, Hugo, Dow , Mansell)

They can shuffle the magnets around all they like but you aint going to cover that quality

Harry, what about the backline? Houli, Broad, Balta, Astbury . Add in Dusty, Soldo too.

Seriously Harry. Is this even worthy of a response?
