GAME DAY Tiges V Giants

Players GWS were missing
Greene Greene Davis Finlayson Daniels Keafe Coniglio Hill

Seriously Harry. Is this even worthy of a response?
We played too many kids in an elimination final that aren't close to being ready. We played with 4 to 5 players less. Mj Dow Ralph Mansell shouldn't have played in this cut throat game while we had pickett kmac caddy george sitting in the stands

You said GWS had more players out hence my response. We had far more out than them. Missing Balta Broad Houli Martin. There’s 4 crucial players. Then we opted for youth instead of those players you mentioned. This suggests we viewed this game as development into Dow MRJ Ralphsmith Mansell even if it mean we sacrificed a finals berth. Long term view.

I listed 8 starting players gws had out

Two games in he's getting as many possessions as Georgie n Aartsy have been getting n kicking more goals as well.
Can't get games or continuity in the VFL at the moment, cooties panic keep shutting it down. It's not like we're asking Moju to play an entire season n death riding him to be a star. He's been given a couple of games to get a feel for the levels required for senior footy, to show faith in what he's got as a young player and to help him invest in the extra work he'll need to do over pre season to develop into the next level.

We've had to debut n push some senior games into a heap of kids this year n I hope they push up a couple more kids for next weeks last game. They're gunna be a massive part of our future that's arriving in a hell of a rush.
What better way to develop and keep them invested in working hard n improving than pushing some end of season games into them?

Richmond hasn’t had to rely on Dusty to save our arses year after year, we have won 3 of the last 4 flags.
He’s been the band leader of a bloody good band
Really!? So we would have won them all without Dusty you reckon? Certain about that? Sure it takes a whole side, but a quality team must not over-rely so much on one amazing and remarkably durable player.

As an aside, I wonder how many people who decided Leon Cameron was an awful coach after watching him speak to his team for 10 minutes in a documentary, feel the same way now?
I've never doubted Leon is a fine coach and a great bloke! Tigers man, don't forget - 84 quality games. :D

hard to watch. Flogged by the opposition and the umps, was like watching a game in the late 80s. How late was that whistle when Cotchy was poleaxed twice? Prestia abused the ump soon after and I don't blame him. Whistles were really late to obvious frees to us in the first half. They eased up a bit when the game was gone.

We're limping to the line this year.
Yes, some posters amuse me putting it down still to just too many rules and poor decision-making. It's been clear to me for years now that Umpiring decisions have been used as a deliberate tool of bias against our club to ensure we fail - this year especially in combo with the rule changes which had to be introduced by Shocking since we still won the flags despite rigged umpiring. The evidence is there for all to see in the reluctance to give our players frees even when blatant as you comment (see the recent match where Nank tackled high, no free, then had to get off for bleeding from his head!).

I'm relieved a RFC player has not been seriously hurt in a high tackle actually leading to spinal or concussive damage.

A differential of about -85 in frees to leaders Dogs +83. Absolutely absurd! Cannot be in the same league you'd think.

Yeah, that Nank high tackle was simply ridiculous. He goes off bleeding from his head - hey maggot, HTF do you think that happened?

Gross mediocre incompetence, as per usual.

I think we have have a whole lot more to worry about than Shai, that's all!
Easy with the squabbling guys. I think you're both right. Without Dusty, Shai is our star player; our only game-changer given 2021 form of most other top players. But he is a mercurial talent; can do amazing things that average players can't like take freak marks (for a small man in AFL ranks), kick vital goals and shows great speed and evasive skills.

However, he also looks far too casual at times in kicking for goals - misses very gettable set-shots. But when he goes for banana shots from close positions when he had the time and space to take another pace and kick directly, it looks very slack and indifferent. It might be unfair on him, but it's like he just doesn't realise how much the fate of the team rests on him at such times. Some of these stuff-ups could have won vital games e.g. near end in WC match.

At such times, after calming down about 30m later, I tell myself, he's still very young! :(

In hindsight we had too many kids who really struggled in what was an elimination final. As much as we criticise these players, pickett mcintosh george caddy and aarts should have played.
Disagree. Whoever made the 8th spot, season was already over. Just prolonging the inevitable. Need to start looking to the future and I don't see any of those players as likely being in it.

Most of George's possessions are late in the game. Have seen him plenty of times with 1 or 2 disposals by half time. Rioli applies real pressure, not I'm there half a second too late implied pressure. Rioli is the better option now. Will take s while to learn his craft. Cumberland will get a go next year too. Castagna is done unless he can re-invent himself ala D Rioli.

If you go back to your original post you made a statement that the club has to get over its inept dependency on one player.
Having a champion player like Dusty in that group has been wonderful but other great teams have had great players in them as well. You would expect them to.
Dusty has won us some games but in the end he was the best player in a great team, nothing more than that. We don’t over rely on Dusty any more than any great team relies on its best player, certainly not to the extent of being “inept”.
Would we have won 3 flags without him? Probably not . Would we have won in 2017 without Jack Riewoldt? No way. In 2019 without Tom lynch? Probably not.

When was the last time one of Georgie's disposals hit a team mate?
He's gone so far backwards from 2017/2018. In 2018 he kicked 1.2 goals and .6 goal assists a game, this year 0.8 and 0.3. Tackles 2.9 to 2.2. Contested possies 4.5 to 3.5. Contested marks .6 to .1. Marks inside 50, 1.5 to .8, tackles inside 50 1.3 to .8. At 25yo you'd expect him to be playing his best footy. Whether it's change in game style, a poorer team therefore less opportunities or just out of form, it doesn't really matter, his time appears up. Being uncontracted where he is atm isn't good for him. There may be suitors.
