GAME DAY - Tiges v Dogs

The free kick against BigV on McCoomb is an absolute disgrace.
Not to mention the 2 free kicks paid 1 after another to Hagan and then Naughton.

Quick hands when the conditions suited. Our game plan is suited to dry weather footy. Look at Adelaide game. Same with tonight. We don’t have the smarts in the wet.
yeh, the ball was a cake of soap a lot of the night but we thought it was dry. Short cross field kicks also hurt us when wet. We needed to kick more and use longer when the ball became difficult to handle. Dumb football cost us, not the umps or selection. Dumb.

They seem to handle the ball ok.
They took marks high and low & didn't fumble.
We couldn't hold handballs.
Our kicking us abysmal.
We missed so many basic kicks to was very hard to watch.

Lol Cotchin sub

Why should any other player care about results when we are so clearly nursing the ex-captain to a milestone.

Wasted year looming, should never have enlisted Cotch and Jack for another campaign. Just a heavy load to carry now and distracting for all concerned.

Should’ve gone for a development year looking forward to a finals berth in 2024.
BoOm.....this ^^^

I don't think this is on the coaches. They shouldn't have to tell the boys in the wet to kick the damn football. We moved the ball so poorly in the 1st that put us behind the 8 ball by 5 goals at quarter time. Not good enough. We then fell into the same trap at the start of the 3rd, dumb handballing to players under pressure, instead of kicking long to a contest and then crumbing the ball on the ground. Its wet weather footy, its pretty simple, but the players constantly decided to handball. They didn't in the 2nd. Don't think thats the coaching, its decision making.
This ^^^......100% on the money.

Nailed.

Very disappointing game.

Was pretty scrappy from both teams.

In the first quarter I thought not only were we getting soundly beaten in clearances, we also seemed quite static. Foostcray were running rings around us, very little run.

The second quarter when we got going was great. The clearance numbers were much closer at half time and once we got the clearances suddenly we looked really good. 7 goals in a row, lots of run and things were working.

Last half, got smashed in the clearances again.

There are a lot of reasons why we were so poor.

I just can't see what is going on at centre bounces. How many times did Nank tap it straight to a Footscray player? Way way too many times. Where were our mids? How are they setting up, because it sure as hell is not working. Plus, when we get our hands on the ball it is a hurried and pressured disposal. The opposition are able to feed the ball out and get clean disposals out - not just this week either, every week this happens. We won the hit outs easily and lost the clearances just as easily - whatever they are doing, it ain't working.

There is clearly an attempt to try and get in the corridor, many times we would attempt to kick to a player in the middle. But, there seems to be little awareness of where the players are kicking. This is occurring not only when we're trying to move the ball inside, it happens all over the ground. Too many passes which are easy to cut off, or passes to players who are outnumbered. This is a serious issue as it is just absurd, we kick to a player and it gets cut off and we are defensively vulnerable. Part of the problem is kicking to a player who is standing still, this I don't get, too static. But it is also awareness, don't kick to an outnumber in the opposition's favour, it makes no sense.

Around packs we are terrible. Not many pack marks, no players in front of the pack, and if it goes over the back, then we again have no-one. Where the hell are they? Are too many going up for the mark? Are they beside the pack? I don't know but when the ball comes off the pack our players are just not there. Some serious issues with our positioning around packs.

The umpiring? Woeful. A complete joke. Do the rules change by the minute? Some of the free kicks Footscray got which led to goals would be laughable if it wasn't for the fact we lost by less than a goal. They got gifted a heap of goals. Often it was a very soft free, one we never get, and which followed a more obvious free they should have conceded. Does illegal disposal simply not apply to them? F***cken joke. It is really making it very hard to watch the game. Not just our games either, the umps just don't seem to be able to consistently apply the rules and often pull free kicks out of nowhere. Every week the umpires look more and more like they want to be the reason for the result of many games, and they are having way too much influence on who wins and loses.

DS
Nice summation.

Re the umps, it is bordering on cheating and I've just about had it.

I watched Carlscum get gifted 5 goals from frees yesterday and almost the same to the Doges tonite.

At almost EVERY single contest, there is a whistle for BS infractions, whilst blatant sh!t that 000s can see is ignored. The game is over officiated, over controlled and has a nanny mentality. Just like the country. Its a fvck!ng bad joke.

Regardless of how we play on the day or team issues, we get reamed week in week out by these d!ickheads and its like the oppo has another 4 on the park. EVERY WEEK.

DONE.

Given the number of frees they don't award which are obvious, I wouldn't say it is over-officiated (in fact, I am convinced that they deliberately don't give all the frees they see because the AFL has a goal of less frees per game).

Rather, I would just say badly officiated.

Disappointing, I had hopes for this year , not so much from a premiership point of view ,

Just thought with the midfield recruits we might be more of a competitive beast

Home ground at the g ( not marvel ) and we have a game plan that doesn’t stand up in wet weather , with winter in Melbourne . In our premiership run ticking over the wins in those wet months at the g was our bread and butter in getting us into the 4 . Surely not Dimma ?

where is the evidence our 2023 best is as good as anyone? One win v Crows?
First half against crows, 2nd quarter yesterday.

When we turn it on we are very good. At times last year as well.

Can’t remember the last 4 quarter performance

After watching Dan Butler and Jack Higgins over the past month , who ever was the “ genius “ who pushed them out the door for “ other opportunities “ is kidding themselves. Either or both would be great at the moment . Forward line work is a craft , not plug in and play !!!!

Higgins wasn't pushed out the door, we paid the blokes salary while he had a brain tumor and then he decided to leave the club.

Dusty only attended 3 centre bounces. And cleared 1. Hopper attended 18 and cleared 1.
The Bont attended 23 and cleared it 6 times.
Dusty needed to be in the middle more. We won the hit outs by about 15 yet were killed at stoppages. Why?

AFL app. Under Advanced stats. They show CBA and CC.
Shai attended 10. For No clearance.

Crazily Baker was in the middle for that last centre bounce. Not sure why Dusty wasn’t in there personally. The first step to getting the winning goal was getting it out of the middle.

Hopper was awesome against Adelaide.

Perhaps we rushed him back a little underdone.
