GAME DAY - Tiges v Dogs

R

Ross is a transition mid.

Who got 23 disposals and a goal going at 80% DE in the wet last week.

But then we dropped him to play CHF for a half in the reserves, as he has such a similar skill set to Wayne Carey.
People will point to his disappointing game in the 2s today but the conditions at the G today were ideal for Ross and would have made a huge difference especially with Graham going down.

Have we taken a reliving mark on the wing this season.
We just don't have a player that can take a mark in a pack around the ground.
That dud Footscary ruckman was plucking marks everywhere.
Miller needs to play.

Hooch lamenting the bashing we got around the stoppages and centre clearances as the prime reason we lost.

We got flogged there tonight. Plain as the nose on ya face. Disappointing considering this was supposed to improve with T and H.
We got flogged there last week as well.

Never thought I'd see the day where Ross was considered the saviour. One of the most vanilla players you'll see.

He didn't have a disappointing day in the reserves.

They played him at CHF, and put together a midfield made of VFL top ups and footballing toddlers.

When Ross was moved on ball in the third, and they finally played Miller full time ruck, Ross was great. Link play was good anyway, and snagged a few clearances.

You don't need a saviour when you keep losing games by a kick.

You just need some composure.

Popping in for a look today, nice to see the Tigers back at the G for the first time this year as well as some of my favourite umpires in action!
You must be pleased with how your boys went today. Quiet early but when the game was there to be won they really had an impact. They were probably the difference in the end.

We did over possess Scoop. One too many handballs and the mistakes occurred. Plenty of times we should have gone the long option but we kept ignoring the conditions.
Nope. Quick hands Was the exact thing that got us going. We needed pace on the ball. Our skills by foot cost us.

Instead of looking at the likes of Hopper and Taranto, why not look at the source?

When was the last time we were truly able to set up in the middle to rove an effective tap ruckman?

Stafford? Ottens?

Think about this for a moment - Nankervis has been our number 1 since 2017. That means every training drill involving him has been about suffocation, not release.

Fine for a turnover side in our successful era, but right now our mids haven’t got a hope of executing clearances with any confidence. If we do, it’s on the back of hard tracking, defensive manoeuvring and luck.

The meta in 2023 is speed of ball movement, not just from turnover but also stoppage.

We are currently saddled with a ruckman who can neither tap clearly to advantage nor lurk dangerously forward.

As a team we are riddled with problems at the moment but the ruck situation is the most critical. With Soldo at least six weeks away there’s no easy fix.

Agree. I just think Nank would be better around the ground and in defence as we've seen in past years. We desperately need a tap ruckman but doubt Soldo would get any better.

Quick hands when the conditions suited. Our game plan is suited to dry weather footy. Look at Adelaide game. Same with tonight. We don’t have the smarts in the wet.

The last kick that he didn't manage to get over the top to Lynch Cumberland punched the ground several times so I think he knows he is capable of much better, same where he centered and turned over the ball in defence. It is always preferable if you can learn from your mistakes in a win unfortunately he has learnt the lesson the hard way.
His support leg slipped as he kicked, but that’s no excuse. He also saw Lynch too late.

Very disappointing game.

Was pretty scrappy from both teams.

In the first quarter I thought not only were we getting soundly beaten in clearances, we also seemed quite static. Foostcray were running rings around us, very little run.

The second quarter when we got going was great. The clearance numbers were much closer at half time and once we got the clearances suddenly we looked really good. 7 goals in a row, lots of run and things were working.

Last half, got smashed in the clearances again.

There are a lot of reasons why we were so poor.

I just can't see what is going on at centre bounces. How many times did Nank tap it straight to a Footscray player? Way way too many times. Where were our mids? How are they setting up, because it sure as hell is not working. Plus, when we get our hands on the ball it is a hurried and pressured disposal. The opposition are able to feed the ball out and get clean disposals out - not just this week either, every week this happens. We won the hit outs easily and lost the clearances just as easily - whatever they are doing, it ain't working.

There is clearly an attempt to try and get in the corridor, many times we would attempt to kick to a player in the middle. But, there seems to be little awareness of where the players are kicking. This is occurring not only when we're trying to move the ball inside, it happens all over the ground. Too many passes which are easy to cut off, or passes to players who are outnumbered. This is a serious issue as it is just absurd, we kick to a player and it gets cut off and we are defensively vulnerable. Part of the problem is kicking to a player who is standing still, this I don't get, too static. But it is also awareness, don't kick to an outnumber in the opposition's favour, it makes no sense.

Around packs we are terrible. Not many pack marks, no players in front of the pack, and if it goes over the back, then we again have no-one. Where the hell are they? Are too many going up for the mark? Are they beside the pack? I don't know but when the ball comes off the pack our players are just not there. Some serious issues with our positioning around packs.

The umpiring? Woeful. A complete joke. Do the rules change by the minute? Some of the free kicks Footscray got which led to goals would be laughable if it wasn't for the fact we lost by less than a goal. They got gifted a heap of goals. Often it was a very soft free, one we never get, and which followed a more obvious free they should have conceded. Does illegal disposal simply not apply to them? F***cken joke. It is really making it very hard to watch the game. Not just our games either, the umps just don't seem to be able to consistently apply the rules and often pull free kicks out of nowhere. Every week the umpires look more and more like they want to be the reason for the result of many games, and they are having way too much influence on who wins and loses.
