GAME DAY - Tiges v Dogs

You expect to be taken seriously?

A moderately coherant thesis about how we won at selection, playing youth, leaving the elders cotchy and jack out

Then we play 3/4's of the crappiest footy weve turned out in 5 years,

With jack in the coaches box, and the old champ coming on at half time for the first time in his life,

And its cotchy and jacks fault?

You need to look in the mirror old mate and try put Baz back in the drawer.

Or your 6 year rebuild,

Will have been for nowt.

To yearn for the selection of Jack and Chimp at this point is cheerleading nonsense

And I wasn’t blaming them for the dogs loss (though Chimp was a slow and ineffective sub). I blame the club for potentially turning the season into a ‘what to do with the geriatrics’, selection-compromising circus.

World according to Baz used to say cheerleading alot.

Im just trying to helping you be the best version of yourself

A compounding problem for us is we don’t have a settled best 23.

I don’t mean injuries either. We actually don’t appear to have an obvious best 23.

In previous years we always knew. Sure, a bolter here and there, but generally there was a settled hierarchy of merit through the list. A rock solid group of 13-14 players and the rest wasn’t hard to work out.

Who are the rock solids in 2023? Nine or ten players max.

Older players inconsistent and unproductive.

Younger players inconsistent and unproductive.

This is a team in flux.

Teams handball more when they're under pressure. They come under pressure when they fumble. Not even The Prince was clean last night.

That wasn't really yesterday though. We were handballing INTO pressure rather than BECAUSE of pressure. We had chances to kick, but decided we were going to handball to runners, but because it was wet we would fumble a little and then invite the pressure.

It wasn't the Dogs that were forcing us into being handball heavy, it was poor decision making. Haven't watched yet to see how it looks on the TV but there were plenty of times we were running the ball out but chose against kicking and taking territory. That changed in the 2nd quarter dramatically.

No difference between old Baz and the current incarnation.

You are the one bringing the subtle Ezy style aggression cos you don’t like my opinions

Which is fine

What was the difference between the first/3rd & 4th qtrs and the second? The weather. It was wet again for the second half, the ball was slippery and we didn't adjust. I'm amazed how many cannot see that as soon as it dried out we didn't fumble and our handball happy game won out. We hit our targets and played slick one touch football that was unstoppable. We didn't miss targets by hand or foot.

Our formline is OK. It's the start of April.

We need luck with injuries and weather. And Dimma needs to get the motivation levels right.
How about we play according to the conditions rather than rely on luck with the weather?

Interesting clash of philosophies on Punt Road End at the moment.

Some are angry because they think we've made recruitment mistakes and ended up with a poor list.

Some are angry because they think we have a good list, but we're using it wrong.

Some are angry because we're phasing out our champions, either positionally or through selection, and it's costing us through inexperience.

Some are angry because we're holding on to our champions, and our kids development is stalling.

Throw in a governing body who wants us back on the bottom of the ladder to keep us from rocking the boat any further.

Look at all this.

One thing is uniting us.

Great summary.

My favourite so far is that it’s clear that H&T were the wrong choice, (or we were dudded by the cost) after 4 rounds.

I’m actually saying that. But it appears we are either stubborn or inflexible as we have failed - in every qtr played in the wet or with a slippery ball - almost exclusively through overuse.

So I’m hoping we get favourable dry conditions moving forward as imo our best footy is pretty impressive.

Just misunderstood like Al Clarkson
Well I am. I’m angry at losing, at the umpires, at the mro, at the afl, at the *smile* media. I’m angry and I’ve had enough.
My intentions are good.

Geez...Kingy loves us. It's like a long term investment he has with us knowing that the price will go up but also go down at times.

We were pedestrian like and passengers at times not chasing or manning up pressure etc lazy. This along with our skills and disposal killed us and hasn't been rectified.

To be honest mate if you didn't see this coming well you been under a rock I always say we took our successful period with both hands 3 flags in 5 years snd back to back like all great teams success comes to end and it's time to refresh .I just hope it's not that Richmond in the past took us 30 plus years to get it right.

Just looking at stats not a replay , like that the cubs started winning a bit of footy , challenge this year might be getting the right mix , maybe Clarke takes a wing of KMac or Pickett , adding a nice mix of attack to our defensive wings , Sonsie has to run through the middle more , we definitely need more class in there, Ryan forward and Rucking is such a better option then Miller going forward. I think will have a very different looking 23 in round 23 compared to round 1

On a less significant topic, have I missed it previously or is that excruciating introduction of the team pre-game new?

Corporate boxes are looking better and better every time those match host imbeciles open their mouths.

Please explain.

Please explain.

The on-ground host or whatever she is called went through our entire team name by name before the game, like they would in a basketball game.

She has neither the football knowledge or inspirational gravitas to perform such a duty so it was absolutely excruciating to listen to.
