Game Day Round 5 vs Crows

The biggest issue that will see us fall off the cliff is the draft bust of the RCDs, Dows, Martyn etc. These are the players that should now be taking the reigns but unfortunately they all look like big busts. That means we are now still relying on the ageing legs of Cotch, Edwards and the like. The old timers will get up for some games but after 3 premierships the desire to close down that space or apply that aggressive tackle to win the ball at all costs has waned. Realistically our midfield should have the legs of RCD, Dow and Martyn doing the hard yards with Cotch and Edwards as the cool heads.
Our new batch look the goods and if we play it smart and finish bottom 3 another haul could be on its way. The tricky part will be closing the gap between the age group

That kick from Jackson wasnt 10 metres let alone 15.

All good.
Himmelburg dropped it, commentators acknowledged it but said oh well what a great goal anyway. Every dodgy free against us is just glossed over. We get a “dodgy” free and it’s analysed to death.

That’s a real reflection of where we are, albeit Dusty was missing for most of them.

Shows the reality of what has to be addressed.
So much for us being a 'system' based team which doesnt rely on our stars. What a fallacy this is from dimma. It couldnt be further from the truth. Take Prestia out of our midfield and we are a bottom 2 side.

We were a system based side (2017-2020) relying on workrate and pressure. Now we have become a team probably most reliant on our best 5 or so playing otherwise we are non competitive.

With Tex *smile* & McAdam running loose up forward Balta was running around Tigers forward line. With Grimes out this is where Balta should be down back. Lotta people bagging Parker must not like his tatts or he does not come from South Caulfield.

Too top heavy, we tried the 3 talls before we were good (Jack, Ty, Griff and other variations too) and it never worked. Taken away the thing that got the team back to the top, and that was the relentless pressure, just not there when its so top heavy.

Forget about the umpires. Some decisions are poor, but we genuinely give away dumb frees.

We are a dumb football team.
It's a combination of both; we do give away far too many dumb ones and Dimma is completely failing to address this with his players - too many high tackles and failing to actually watch the opponent to release if he fails to take possession or loses possession of the ball - so we get pinged for holding the man.

But no team gets hit for so many of these as we do. But a differential of 33/13 cannot be entirely explained by this. We get umpired differently to any other side in the AFL, and its statistically proven.

Reckon it’s more complex than that to be honest.

Agree with Prestia comment. Martin missing is an obvious issue.

But it’s a combo of nothing else in the midfield plus Jack/Tom issue up forward - ageing key forwards with no mobility.

I’d say we need a rebuild in the middle, plus a desperately needed athletic key forward. Can change quickly.

In a game like this, we needed you to go back, settle and kick that George, exactly as you did last week.
Just isn't smart enough. And never will be. He cannot dispose of the ball really effectively about 50% of his possessions. We have let two better SFs than him walk out of the club.

We had our chances, it was our forward entries that cost us the game.

We got back into when we looked for the best option instead of bombing it deep to Jack, Lynch and Balta.
right on. when it was obvious that no marks were being taken when bombing it in, we kept doing it.
until that little period you mention and we started showing some craft. something we are known for.
this reliance we are putting onto the tall timber to mark is somewhat inconsistent, and it needs to diversify.

From the outside it seems that last years drafting was best available, whilst the drafting in previous years was arguably a bit too experimental jazz.

Let’s hope this years drafting will be a midfielder bonanza.

And surely it’s time for Sonz, Stack and RCD to be played at AFL for the rest of the year; let them work their way into the year and playing AFL.

Who the f is keeping them out when there is no midfield to speak of?

Wouldn’t play RCD until VFL form warrants it.

That one feels like the most frustrating loss for me since 2018.

It was a Holy Trinity combination of annoying factors in:

1. The umpires
2. The crowd cheering their racist hero
3. And the umpires again

We lost and that's fine, but regardless of outcome the actual viewing experience was not very enjoyable.
All the points 1 2 and 3 could have been made irrelevant by the RFC. The viewing experience would have been fine by me as a consequence. Apologies but I focus a hell of a lot more on us than them.

Yeh it’s the 50/50 stuff that *smile* you. The non calls. How many *smile* throws? The unrewarded tackles for us but stuff like Bolton and Ross get done. Do we ever get those? It didn’t matter when the stand rule wasn’t in, we got the ball back anyway. But they carry more weight now. The AFL can get *smile* I’m done with it. Its a *smile* show when you are more worried about how players man the mark and attempt to milk fifties than play football.
Wasted energy MD. We were *smile*.

Didnt watch game and looks at stats.

Who TF played on Walker FFS!!

5 goals FMD, Tarrant or Miller.

Did they not whisper "RAYCISS" in his ear at every opportunity to get in his thick head,
I was shouting the R word every time he got near it. Only my mates and the TV heard it though.
