Game Day Round 5 vs Crows

Didnt watch game and looks at stats.

Who TF played on Walker FFS!!

5 goals FMD, Tarrant or Miller.

Did they not whisper "RAYCISS" in his ear at every opportunity to get in his thick head,

Other reality is Jack & Lynch can no longer play forward together. Opposition run off them - one or the other to partner Balta. If they want Balta to be a key forward then play him as one.
Jack is now old, and at the end. I have absolutely loved his career, he is a hall of famer. I will miss him a lot, have loved watching him play.

But Lynch is the real worry, posted above that he's been worth it, the 2019 Prelim alone and all that year, he has already paid up.
But he is having another poor year, he was up against a youngish defender and got beaten badly. He cant jump, he's hopeless when the ball hits the ground. And his contract $ means we cant bring in players. We have a shot at maybe 1 player like Taranto when Cotch, JR and Shedda leave.

I know you all hate thinking this, but we need to finish low - get a top 5 pick. Hope North are on the Podium with us.

So, once again as unlucky as frees against, we hit the lead, had the momentum and then that *smile* Walker had to get a lucky bounce and goal.

Might as well get a full strength WC team in R7 against us. Nothing's changed.

Think we’ll finish down the bottom regardless. Which one do we drop - Lynch or Jack?

We have to 'manage' Jack one week on / one week off. Play him in the marquee games. He deserves to play the Anzac game for example and dreamtime. He is a big stage player. 'Rest' him other weeks. Unless he pulls the plug, he should be nursed to R22. He is a champion of our club.

Lynch is really, really struggling but he's getting paid big coin, so unless he is injured and sore, he plays. His drop off has been so fast to happen.

Soldo needs to play to help Nank. That's two rucks but they both need to play, and one has to rest forward to help Lynch - by staying out of the way, and trying to split the defenders at least.

None of that is still the problem. It's our mids. but we know it.

People keep saying dont play Aarts. But what is the MC's choice, he's one of very few that has endurance to run both ways.

Today my internet connect was down for most of the first half but sadly it came up for the rest of the match (I ended up watching it on delay) but there are times when I feel the internet should have stayed down to the whole match as it was sad to see the Tigers lack of skill, lack of interest and fitness. Still there is always next week!!

Enough of playing the battlers. Parker, Aarts, Ross that's it. Even Ross had 20+ touches, there is no hurt factor.

Time for run and flair. I want to see what Cumberland can do up forward, Put Stack in, Mansell, RCD, Sonsie ( i would rather any of these than Parker, Ross and Aarts).
Some of the youngsters Dow and Ralphsmith weren't as prolific as in previous games

Castagna tries hard, he was ok with 12 disposals and 2 goals, but I'm sure other players in the 2nds can match this output, We just gotta give them a chance.

I know we have high hopes for miller but I'm leaning towards he won't make it. I see the difference between him and Gibcus who is only 18 and it's vast.

The ability to run only gets you so far. You still need to find the ball and use it to advantage.

That's just our level now. Last week was the aberration not this week. Great teams bring effort every week. We can't anymore.

Everyone is trying. We just have too many players either through age or talent that can't produce consistent football.
I want to agree with this but can’t. There was a glaring lack of defensive running and positioning that has undone us all year. It’s horrible watching players amble up the field and let the opposition own the corridor and an open 50. Our mids were getting it done at the coal face today but the support running wasn’t there and it was graham, Edwards, picket players who have always been reliable who set the tone for Hugo and Dow who were terrible. I really don’t want aaarts, Parker or George on the ground ever again. Ross was pretty effective I thought. He’s not the ideal starting winger but no where near as bad as people rant on about.

Agree re Jack and I’d actually prefer playing him to Lynch to be honest.

Also agree re two rucks and I’d either move Balta to ruck rove or move him to a wing. He’s big and super athletic - we need him in the play.

Rather try Sonsie or Stack instead of Aarts.

Yep , we have 14 best 22 players turning 29 or older next year...
The question over the next 4 or 5 years is not if we can win a flag but if we can avoid winning a spoon(or two)
On the bright side some top 2 or 3 picks coming our way over the next few years :D
The most frustrating thing for me, is the cats were even older last year and everyone expected them to completely fall off the cliff for a while now, and it seems they will probably finish top 4 or better again this year. They just never drop down the ladder... even all the comparisons recently with their ageing stars compared to ours ..... the likes of Jack, Cotch, Edwards look completely shot while Hawkins looks like he could go on for another 3-4 years, Selwood has more in the tank aswell. We have just fallen off that cliff so quickly its depressing...

The SA crowd cheered Walker like a hero. It was cringey to watch. It was the type of cheer reserved for only the most beloved of characters.

IMO our defence looked a bit safe, I didn't see them taking risks to cover for each other's man as much.

That might just be a result of having too many new individuals at once in a defensive system originally built on long-term bonds. It's harder to know exactly when to leave your own man when you're not that experience with those around you. Gotta raise them together over many years (Rance/Grimes/Astbury trained together for 8 years before they became impenetrable).

E.g. In one play, Tarrant was in great position and succeeded in stopping his own man (Walker for this one)... but his man was just playing decoy in a pack to allow someone else to mark the ball. So, Tarrant succeeded as an individual, but the team failed to stop the goal.

The opposition scored that goal because their forwards did a team play while our defenders just reacted to their own individual men. Just a thought, I could be wrong!

The Tiges are in the twilight zone.

They no longer have the players to play the way they used to. They can’t pressure and grind teams down into oblivion over four quarters.

There were plenty of passages today where the Tiges were closing in and had a greater spread of players near the contest, yet the crows were still able to handball their way out of trouble and then break forward to an open forward line that was due to Richmond players being stuck in no mans land.

The kids on the field aren’t that good (Gibcus not included); the old champs are ready for retirement, and the players that should be doing more heavy lifting are being shown up as being incapable.

And as a result there are holes everywhere on the field and in the way the team plays, which manifests in plenty of lost contests and ugly passages of play.

As hard as it is to take; the Tiges won’t be contending for a premiership in quite a while.

Draft, trade, draft time.
