Game Day Round 5 vs Crows

I stand corrected if I’m wrong , however over the past 20 odd games we seem to not get anywhere near the joe the goose goals we were getting when we were the Best , so often it’s a long bomb 20 out to Lynch who is surrounded by defenders , we also just don’t seem to have anywhere near the crumbers we once had , are we not getting up and back enough,? ,are we way too predictable going forward? Are we simply not good enough or have the crazy work ethic anymore ?

IMHO It’s time for change in our execution and thinking in the forward half , fact is it dosent work our way anymore , we haven’t been beaten by the top sides ……. Yet , we’ve been beaten by mediocre sides , yes we are a combo of old an past their elite best and young an learning the caper, however it’s the theory we are using that has to change . The sooner we see the class of Sonsie and Clarke forward the better

Our forward structure and delivery to our forwards has been terrible for a long time. It's a huge weaknesses

Our forwards are just too slow David. Plus they just don’t seperate. It’s perplexing & frustrating. Our Inside 50 ball movement hasn’t improved at all.
I keep saying it, we have a problem with our coaches, tactics, strategies and teaching/developing of players.
We have progressively been getting further behind in our coaching these last 2-3 years.

Dimma knows how to coach, he knows all the stats, he sees the game well. It's what the collective coaches are doing during the week and pre-season that troubles me, beacuse whatever it is, it hasnt been visible on the field since R2 last year. And maybe even in 2020, despite the flag.

Yes... our mids are now bottom 8. And yes, we have aging great players + not so good young players. All true.
But in theory, we have too many talented players to have won just 4 games from the last 16 played. Whilst we are not a great team anymore, to all posters, do you think our list is bottom 4? I dont know, but that seems a massive drop to me.

So... If our list isn't bottom, our coaching needs improvement. Collingwood have improved under Fly - they have some new players, but it's the same squad Buckley had. GWS seemingly have a shitload of talent, yet again this year, they dont look like doing much with it.

It's many layers of reasons - our better players near the end, recruiting busts like RCD and Higgins (your 1st pick really shouldnt be a bust even if its pick 17), injuries at times, Lynch falling off a cliff quicker than I expected, changes in the AFL rules perhaps impacting us more than others, the 2020 flag in Brisbane maybe taking a bigger toll than initially assumed.

For me, the coaching performance is a big reason why we have dropped off so badly.

One of the best crumbers we had was moved to the back line.

Is AFL the only 'professional' sport the club isn't allowed to comment on the standard of umpiring?
I have noticed that the commentators this week all have mentioned the great crowds.
Is that the AFL talking? The top deck of AO was empty.
The Melbourne GwS game couldve been played at Goshs paddock.

Agree - coaching needs to be looked at too. Reluctance to address clearance is but one example.

agree. stoppages are a huge concern. from the rucks tap work to players positioning around the stoppage. there is always an opposition player free. always.
bombing it into the forward line is a no brain tactic. look what happened yesterday when we stopped doing it. we scored goals!

The reason our fwds arent getting the separation required is because both their legs are shot. Its easier for them to just compete for the same ball. Lazy and old mans football. Separation requires work rate and discipline. Our 2 arr past their prime. Need an energetic young KPF making the runs and then you can have one of Jack or Tom in the line up but definitely not both

There was analysis the other week about how Geelong operate their forward lines. They basically don't have the congestion issue because each key forward doesn't lead into the same area.

With our weapons of Balta, Lynch and Jack I can't see why don't do it.

I just dont think Jack and Tom can get to as many contests anymore and Balta is still not playing as a complete forward so hard to work on patterns. Thats why i would like to see Gibcus have a crack in the fwd line with Balta and either Jack or Tom. Would instantly transform our fwd energy and movement

3rd Q was great for the first half. Like to know what changed.

Dimma “*smile* this game I’m off to get some chips”
Teague “I’ll have crack”
Dimma “good luck. these guys are finished”
...and Richmond hit the front!
Dimma “get the hell out of my seat Teague. I’ll take it from here”

Jack and Lynch for me is not working we looked better with Balta and Lynch only.
