Game Day RD 17 - Tigers V Suns

I did say 4 or 5 wins. I think there's very little chance of getting in with 3 wins. Maybe if the teams that should win, win. But that never happens. Next 3 games will tell us a lot but the Port game is shaping up to be a big one. We shall see.
Hopefully our % is the saviour, it's going down to the final round for sure.

Common sense suggests that if we play 2 good quarters and 2 bad quarters every week. We are deserving of around 8th or 9th spot. It is sadly where we are at. The difference between our best and worst is poles apart, and that is the incredibly frustrating part.

Teams around us are getting better and the Tiges are on the decline. It’s part of life, and I can accept losing.

But last night was shocking, and something I didn’t think I’d experience again after some of the sh*t that we witnessed prior to 2017.

It was embarrassing, and it stings to experience.

Who cares about which coaches have gone, and what our game day tactics are, or where the soft cap is at.

We gave players that can’t kick a fu*king football, in a game called football.

Let that sink in when you’re daring to pontificate about final ladder positions and what the team may or may not do.
Ryan has been playing well but our line up with Ryan rucking is going to be a huge challenge. Next week vs Goldstrein'll be a bloodbath. Then Freo, then ??? We won a flag with Balta as back up ruck, hope he's up to that role again. Martin and Cotchin will be good INs. Martin has played a half of good footy. Any chance of winning depends oh him. Vlas IN too. Allows Baker to play elsewhere.

Just watched last two minutes again. How the hell are the mids not man on man at the centre bounce. Why didn’t we ice the clock ? Why was Miller kicking out at the death ? Why didn’t Georgie give the handball to cucumber?

All boils down to lack of leadership

As a leader, why didn't Grimo mark the ball on the chest????

Gibcus blows up his man as he can up and down the ground so we'll already while miller isn't this type of player

Good stuff Numbers!

Why aren't we running out games?

Late game discipline? Coaching?

Mid-game injuries are part of it, perhaps. Conditioning?

Unnecessary suspensions, also?

Heart?

4 points matter if you want to take part in September.

Otherwise - Just play the kids! Welcome to 2012!
Probably a bit of all those factors. Brain fades that produce suspensions or dumb free kicks and 50m penalties that give the oppo goals are all signs of a self-centred attitude by players who don't worry about the team result any more. Too many players have lost their focus and those who do try are wondering 'why should I bother?' when they see Vlastuin in the stands rather than on the ground helping the team. What happened to the Richmond man team first attitude? Got any answers Dimma?

The irony in all of this is that we are 3 games behind the top 3 teams. It shows that at our best we can compete. But we don't play our best for long enough or often enough. 3 games is remarkably close given our performances.

Last night was a shocker.

This year could have been wide open for us but we have blown too many games we should have won.

One comment above I reckon is indicative of where we are at. The comment about kicking the ball straight to MRJ when he is on a tall opponent. This is stupidity, MRJ can run but is not tall. It needs to be drilled into the players that they kick to our advantage - if we have a mismatch in height then yes you kick to the player, if we have a mismatch where we are at a height disadvantage you kick to where the player can run. This sort of stuff is basic for a professional footballer and should be ingrained. But we don't do it.

Still pretty p!ssed off about last night's performance, we just should not have lost that game. The pity is we have lost a few others this year in exactly the same way - big rush of goals from the opposition based on centre clearances. We need to perform better at this when the opposition gets a run on, not necessarily winning clearances but pressuring opposition clearances would be enough to at least slow the tide and hopefully start to shift the game.

Dusty, Cotch, Balta, Lambert, Vlastuin, Lynch all out

Prestia not 100% due to normal concussion hangover

Considering we have no depth, Ross late out was a little rabbit *smile* garnish on a big *smile* sandwich

Both rucks get injured during the game

Thats why we lost the game 6 of our best players out. And one of our current best depth players out of a side with no depth due to equalisation policies.

Amazing coaching and playing effort that we almost won it really.
Totally agree.

We had 5 players with ~10 games experience or less

I've unofficially been keeping tabs of the performance of our concussed players since Ben Griffiths went to the Melbourne Brain Centre for scans back in 2016 or so.

In my opinion as an observer, 100% of our players have underperformed for about 4-6 weeks since being concussed, with some such as Kamdyn taking up to 10-12 weeks.

We should therefore expect Prestia to be serviceable for the next few weeks, but it's safe to say he'll be firing again come September.
