Game Day RD 17 - Tigers V Suns

So you think we are done? Our guns won't get younger our depth won't improve this season.
Its not over till its over, but a lot has to go right, probably too much. Lynch and Dustys hammies have probably done us for this season, they cost us the win tonight. But all-up I think we've over achieved this year, so far.

I think we will win 13 games and miss finals. Bizarre really.

We were still 17 points up with 7 minutes to go.

We blew it. Again.
It was torturous to watch.

Losing contest after contest; the ball bobbling out of players’ hands instead of it sticking; an inability to cause secondary stoppages or hold the ball up when needed.

For me the loss is not as simple as the coach not addressing how to keep a lead, or the players no longer having the sufficient will to win.

Tonight was the perfect blend of having too many players playing that aren’t up to AFL standard, combined with ageing stars that no longer have the output that they once did.

Our players that are not up to it contributed to things getting tighter than they should have (goals on the table).

And the amount of experienced players missing meant that we didn’t have the required skill and on field leadership across the field to make the right decisions and stem the tide when things got tight.

And then you sprinkle this with some lack of discipline (which isn’t excusable but alone is not the reason we lost), and you get the s*it soufflé that we were all forced to eat today.

We absolutely shouldn’t have lost but at the same time I can see why and how we did.

I was a little bit sad watching Jack tonight. I love him and I think he's doing a great job as a foil to Lynch, and time waits for no one, but after Lynch went off he tried but he just can't do the number 1 forward thing anymore. If he's double teamed he's stuffed. Collins is a bum IMO but he owned Jack a few times. There's no shame in it, Jack will always be a champion to me, but it was stark and hard for someone who has watched his whole career.

Ruck and mid stocks smashed… im struggling to see where we get the wins needed for rest of the year
Agree mate.
A lot of tiger fans were talking top 4 a few weeks ago (never going to happen)
My daughter and I just did one of those Bull crap ladder predictors.
We finish 9th.

You change one result around and we knock off a Power or Freo and it's 8th.
Anyway.

I'm angry at his selfishness of attempting those schoolboy speckies which not only cause frees against but also risks his life on however he lands.

Yeah but it's basically the same argument. We lose those games because we don't kick goals through skill errors but mainly IMO stupid decision making and lairising. How many goals has Bolton missed this year through being a lair?? Of course that wasn't a factor tonight but his decisions have cost us in the past. The Swans game where he gave away an arrogant 50 and momentum swung to them instantaneously with a resultant goal.

This team has lost its mental edge. They don't go for the kill. They relax when they get 5 goals up. The results this year show that as fact. It is infuriating that we have lost so many games in this manner this year. Also we don't win close games; that is the 3rd game in the last 5 we have lost by less than a goal. Mental edge is gone.

I don't think its mental edge and I also don't think there is 1 over riding reason of what we are doing wrong that is causing these swings. People on here seem to want there to be one over riding reason why this keeps happening so they have someone to blame whether that be a player, the coach or the recruiting team, but the facts are, each of those fade outs is different. For example, some were due to poor discipline, some a bit of liarising (but I'd say this is someway down the list, its a complimentary impact rather than the cause) and then there is bad goal kicking. Heck last week we had a run on us from West Coast at 1 point yet we kicked brilliantly last week. The cause of the run on last week? Centre bounce dominance? Now to me thats the one thing we can say is a constant amongst all of the swings in momentum against us, and as I've mentioned before is why 666 was brought in, it makes the centre bounce super important. We've also had run ons where we have won several centre bounces in a row.

Tonight was different, whilst there were again some complimentary factors (poor discipline / 50's and liarising - 1 example) the main factor was our goal kicking. Some on here seem to indicate that we just got smashed in the 4th quarter, and they were dominant, they kicked 6.3 and we kicked 1.3. Really looking at those 3 for us, we probably should have been 4.0 and won the game pretty comfortably. Thats the game right there.

In know people will go on about the centre bounce, but with our outs today, we were never going to smash them at the centre bounce (we were 12 each) but thats where they started their run on in the 2nd half. They got the centre bounce, and then held field position, the opposite of what happened in the 1st half where we did the same, but we struggled to mark the ball to switch it up partly due to injuries (Soldo without a thumb), Lynch not on the ground etc, but we still had plenty of opportunities to ice the game.

There isn't a magic wand going around to fix the 1 issue that is effecting these swings in momentum, they are happening to all teams, but to use a footy phrase, we can only control what we can control, and in that, it has to be around goal kicking. 13 behinds kicked to their 5. Thats the game right there.

Nah. 13 would get us in I reckon. Especially if the Saints, Dogs, Port, GC drop the odd game. Easier said than done of course.

I think that's probably right. Too many sides around us have also dropped games and our % is still solid. Not sure it counts for much in the grand scheme of things.

After thinking about this for a while I have come to two conclusions
1. We definitely should not have lost and it was our own fault. Despite everything going against us we should have had the composure to win that game.
2. Looking at the personnel it’s not surprising we were just hanging on. No Martin, Cotchin, Balta, Lambert and Vlastuin. We lost Lynch early, Nank and Soldo played more than half a game with a broken thumb.
We also lost Ross, Gibcus missed and stack probably would have come in if he hadn’t broken his cheekbone.
We were and are going forward very short of personnel.

I think out of all of those only Vlastuin, Gibcus and Ross will play next week

No merit hanging around bottom of the 8 thru 10th just take our medicine, we cant hold out the Suns from 7 goals up.

The loss to the Swans in the last minutes and the loss to the Cats last week in the last few minutes have been well and truly compounded now.

Next week they'll scrape by the Kangas by 4 goals ................... BIG F%#$^&#$^%* DEAL.
I was thinking more likely 16/17 pts Craigy ........... no need to sink the slipper in these days and run the score up, its a kindler, gentler world we live in afterall. :sarcasm

When the siren sounded to start the last Q, I wasn't comfortable, but I said we need to kick 2 goals to win it. Jack did his bit. FFS
