Game Day RD 17 - Tigers V Suns

Just got back from the game, hard loss to take. Never seen so many ashen-faced tiger fans since 2013. Funny thing is, I went expecting to lose, unusual for me, due to too many VFL players in the side. Add-in the in-game injuries, it was smart money outcome. You can argue Aarts and George cost us the game sure, but there are bigger issues.

I'm not ideologically opposed to 666, but they brought in partly to stop us, and its worked. But also we are on the wane/ in transition and lacking depth due to being on top for a while anyway, so those 2 things combined are making it hard to defend a lead.

Thats the next challenge for us, and every side, and I'm confident we'll meet it, is to recruit and develop players to make us top a 4 centre clearance side. Thats where the money is with 666. Thing is, Blair and Dimma will make us clearance beasts, then they'll change the fuken rules again.

I would say this is one of the worst losses I have ever experienced in a home and away game. I'm still burning over it. You don't lose form being 40 up in the 3rd.

But even in the last qtr the calamity of errors just needed to put on the benny hill music.

Castagna, Aarts, Soldo and even Edwards the match committee are also to blame for this loss. We don't need a slow 2nd ruckman.
Shedda, i get they want to get him to 300 games but geez another average game, 12 disposals. FFS play him as the sub and be done with it.

Papers should be stamped for both Castagna and Aarts, meaning not to be seen in the seniors again.
dont forget grimes he gave away a soft dumb downfield that gifted a goal. Moronic play. We corner the market in that department.

Was thinking the same thing. Definitely didn’t attend any centre bounces in the last quarter.
He should have been in there when we were 2 goals up at the end and a hard tag put on Touk. Neither were done. Dimma just doesnt see it during games or he is just very stubborn

Too much left for too few unfortunately. Our depth is a massive concern and questions need to be asked of our recruiting and development.
No, its the reverse draft order and the cap. We haven't had a top 10 pick since Conca, and the cap means you can't keep too many good players for too long, or recruit good players if you already have a lot. Its a numbers game. Its driving me mental people just trot this out and its wrong.

Show me a game (that hasn't included a blow out) that hasn't had 1 team scoring quickly, and the other team then comes back. Its how the game has been designed with 666 to make things exciting. It either leads to blowouts, or it causes significant swings in momentum. It just seems that we have a lot more of those swings against us in 2nd halves.

It happens quite simply the other way too. Look at the Cats game, they quickly generate a 4-5 goal lead, we reign it back in and lead by 3, did you complain then? No because it went in our favour, that game then swung back against us.
Respectfully disagree.
Something is wrong.

What about the swings that we have had? Or have we been thrashed in every game???

666 has been brought in to create these sort of swings, and it is working.

You could pull one of these together for almost every team in the comp this year.
Not Collingwood

Whats to disagree with? That other teams don't get swings in momentum? That we don't get swings in momentum too?

We get passages of play where we dominate and then other teams will dominate us at other times and it happens to almost every single team in the comp. Its the way that Shocking wanted to set the game up with 666.

Yep we are now paying for our drafting during the flag run.
It will be pretty interesting to see who is delisted end of year. The retirees all go and the depth players who are borderline can’t all be cut and then there’s the duds who are of the right age profile to retain. I count at least 9 I’d chop.

The reality is, we aren't a bad team. There has been a lot of hyperbole posted on here tonight. I might log off, its prime time for some people on here to spit what they want.

We are still a good team, we got up to 40 points up and GC were always going to get a run on, I'm not sure why people didn't expect that but we should have been good enough to protect that lead, and thats where scoring our chances comes into it. We weren't kicking shots from the pocket, we kicked almost all of them from within the corridor, we butchered them and those goals to hit back when GC were on top were super important, shame those chances fell to George and Aarts in the main. The game wasn't in being able to preserve a 40 point lead, GC were never going to play as bad in the 2nd half as they did the 3rd, but it was about maintaining them at arms length.

Of the 6 behinds were scored in the 2nd half, I'd hazard a guess that we should have kicked at least 4 of them. Thats the game right there, regardless of whether or not we let the lead slip. If people thought that the lead wouldn't be reduced with the team we had out, then you guys are not being realistic. It was our inability to hit back when GC were on top that killed us tonight.
Giving up good leads in games has been happening all year. And we appear ton have not done one thing to fix it. That loss tonight, from the position we were in, was inexcusable. It doesn't matter who was playing. We were still 17 points up with 7 minutes to go.

We blew it. Again.

A stinging loss.
The worst one for me in recent history was the loss to GWS in 2017.
It felt like an incandescent steam iron to the forehead.
I was in a Novotel bar and there was a group of obese clowns chuckling at the TV screen.

I get that but every game bar one we have been in winning positions.
Our last quarter's have been diabolical.
We could quite easily be entrenched in the top 4.
We have lost our mental edge.
Sides know it and smell blood.
Yep. They are like great whites when we get a 5 goal lead. We are ripe for the picking.
