Game Day RD 17 - Tigers V Suns

We just can't run out games as well as we did. The ageing core of guns can't sustain it anymore. Not enough of the kids have come on.

I hope the blowtorch comes onto recruiting and devolpment. Huge question marks on Matt Clarke.
The first part is fine, aging guns, yes indeed, and also the cap and lack of top draft picks because we have ruled the roost mean we have no depth, but there are not huge question marks on Matt Clarke. If you want to be in denial about the structural realities of how the AFL equalisation policies work, you might say small question marks. Maybe just question marks. But huge question marks???

Giving up good leads in games has been happening all year. And we appear ton have not done one thing to fix it. That loss tonight, from the position we were in, was inexcusable. It doesn't matter who was playing. We were still 17 points up with 7 minutes to go.

We blew it. Again.

Yes I know, but blowing a lead isn't all about conceding but about scoring when the other side is dominating. Thats where the lead was blown today. They were always going to get a run on, seriously is anyone saying that with Witts, Rowell, Anderson and Miller that you didn't expect them to get on top of our depleted midfield at times in the 2nd half? It was always going to happen, but we needed to be ruthless going the other way and kick goals. We had shots in exactly the place we would want to (the corridor and close to goal) but we butchered them.

We essentially lost that lead, because we couldn't maintain kicking a score ourselves, not only because they scored goals against us, that part was always going to happen, but we needed to be good enough to kick goals but we missed so many goals. George - 3 or 4, Aarts - 1 or 2, MRJ - 1, Pickett - 1, Cumberland 1 or 2.

See what I mean. They reigned in 40 points, and we missed somewhere around 7-10 goals that you would expect them to get. The 40 point lead could have been maintained, regardless of what we ended up conceding, it was our inability to hit back the other way with the chances that we got, that enabled them to close that 40 point lead.

Show me a game (that hasn't included a blow out) that hasn't had 1 team scoring quickly, and the other team then comes back. Its how the game has been designed with 666 to make things exciting. It either leads to blowouts, or it causes significant swings in momentum. It just seems that we have a lot more of those swings against us in 2nd halves.

It happens quite simply the other way too. Look at the Cats game, they quickly generate a 4-5 goal lead, we reign it back in and lead by 3, did you complain then? No because it went in our favour, that game then swung back against us.
Without checking I'd be pretty confident that we are the only team that has lost 5 games after leading by around 5 goals or more.

This team has lost its edge; its killer instinct.

I hope we trade for a ready made mid. I don't have any confidence Clark can draft one and Morris can devolp them properly.

What about the swings that we have had? Or have we been thrashed in every game???

666 has been brought in to create these sort of swings, and it is working.

You could pull one of these together for almost every team in the comp this year.
Don’t forget the “Stand” rule… combined with 666 makes it very hard to defend a run on when you more often than not lose the centre clearance…

Its pretty obvious why we give up.leads late in games and our club is trying to address it,it's simply our lack of quality mids along with midfield continuity.

Ruck and mid stocks smashed… im struggling to see where we get the wins needed for rest of the year

And kick by Prestia.
No, it wasn't actually. Came off the side of the boot more to the advantage of the defender who fumbled the mark. Cumbo exerted just enough pressure to create a turnover and capitalise.
Quality kicks into our FL to our advantage are pretty rare.

Nuh. Our guns are older and we have no depth. I actually reckon our killer instinct is what has got us into those leads.

Inability to win clearance and prevent/defend opposition clean clearance, especially centre clearance, is killing us. That’s the common denominator behind all our 2022 losses.

Yeah but it's basically the same argument. We lose those games because we don't kick goals through skill errors but mainly IMO stupid decision making and lairising. How many goals has Bolton missed this year through being a lair?? Of course that wasn't a factor tonight but his decisions have cost us in the past. The Swans game where he gave away an arrogant 50 and momentum swung to them instantaneously with a resultant goal.

This team has lost its mental edge. They don't go for the kill. They relax when they get 5 goals up. The results this year show that as fact. It is infuriating that we have lost so many games in this manner this year. Also we don't win close games; that is the 3rd game in the last 5 we have lost by less than a goal. Mental edge is gone.

Whats to disagree with? That other teams don't get swings in momentum? That we don't get swings in momentum too?

We get passages of play where we dominate and then other teams will dominate us at other times and it happens to almost every single team in the comp. Its the way that Shocking wanted to set the game up with 666.
This is a really good point. We all thought 666 was about increasing scoring, because that’s what the AFL and their media mouthpieces said. At the same plenty of supporters said that high scoring didn’t necessarily make for great viewing. You know what does and you know what a lot of viewers like? Close matches, where the momentum changes. That’s what we’re getting now and that’s due to initiatives like 666 and Stand. They’re terrible, but they’re having the results the AFL brought them in to ensure. Of course it’s had the added bonus for them of screwing us.

Seems we have two players capable of winning a centre clearance.. Prestia and Bolton…. Apart from that we have sweet fa in there.

So you think we are done? Our guns won't get younger our depth won't improve this season.

Likely Season maker or breaker this game.

The Maggots getting up really boiled my pisss, a big F$#%$% You to Norf for losing the unloseable.

Tigers turn this up and ill be out for a new TV and possibly other replacement furniture tomorrow.

Cmon boys this is the game to launch from.
Harvey Norman?

How are they trying to address it? How do we fix it so this season isn't over? Taranto can't help us this year; that's if he actually wants to come. We may need to rebuild.
