Game Day RD 17 - Tigers V Suns

So is it correct - Nank PCL and soldo broken thumb? If so we might need to get CCJ to swap teams for the game!

Is it a coincidence that we fail to run out games by playing 2 ruckman? Two lumberers really. Nank when on song, gets around the ground ok, deep back and even forward. Soldo no so much this season, big lumberer without much input around the ground.

Other clubs make do with one ruckman ie Witts, Darcy, Grundy, maybe with another ruck/forward or forward/ruck giving them a spell.
We have certainly missed Balta being able to pinch hit ruckthis season.
No Willos. Because this has been happening ALL year long. Not just in games we’ve lost but also in games we’ve won. Cwood, Carlton, Hawthorn, Port, WCE last week….they were all games where we faded badly for extended periods and let them back into the game.

The first WCE game and maybe the Dogs games are the only games this year where we’ve put a decent end to end performance in. Otherwise we’ve had huge lapses in all the others.

A bloke who got suspended for an undisciplined, brainless decision in the last few minutes of the WCE would have been handy

Perhaps the more relevant question is, how did we get 40 points up with such a crap team?

The reality is, we aren't a bad team. There has been a lot of hyperbole posted on here tonight. I might log off, its prime time for some people on here to spit what they want.

We are still a good team, we got up to 40 points up and GC were always going to get a run on, I'm not sure why people didn't expect that but we should have been good enough to protect that lead, and thats where scoring our chances comes into it. We weren't kicking shots from the pocket, we kicked almost all of them from within the corridor, we butchered them and those goals to hit back when GC were on top were super important, shame those chances fell to George and Aarts in the main. The game wasn't in being able to preserve a 40 point lead, GC were never going to play as bad in the 2nd half as they did the 3rd, but it was about maintaining them at arms length.

Of the 6 behinds were scored in the 2nd half, I'd hazard a guess that we should have kicked at least 4 of them. Thats the game right there, regardless of whether or not we let the lead slip. If people thought that the lead wouldn't be reduced with the team we had out, then you guys are not being realistic. It was our inability to hit back when GC were on top that killed us tonight.

There’s always hyperbole after a loss like this. A. Lot of what you say has merit, but we do have to overhaul things on and off field. The AFL’s soft cap changes have had the desired effect. We’ve been getting plundered off field for a while now. Time to hit back and start stealing other clubs off field talent. A rejuvenation like that is what helped springboard us to a golden era. It can happen again, although we’ll need some. More generational talent and that may not happen, or at least it’ll take a while and some luck.

I would say this is one of the worst losses I have ever experienced in a home and away game. I'm still burning over it. You don't lose form being 40 up in the 3rd.

But even in the last qtr the calamity of errors just needed to put on the benny hill music.

Castagna, Aarts, Soldo and even Edwards the match committee are also to blame for this loss. We don't need a slow 2nd ruckman.
Shedda, i get they want to get him to 300 games but geez another average game, 12 disposals. FFS play him as the sub and be done with it.

Papers should be stamped for both Castagna and Aarts, meaning not to be seen in the seniors again.

This place becomes a cesspit on nights like tonight unfortunately.

I agree on the softcap, it certainly hasn't helped us. There is no logic for the AFL to not return the softcap to what it was pre Covid bearing in mind we are back to pre Covid revenues. The only thought pattern behind it is they are trying to hurt the bigger teams for whatever reason, and we have certainly been hit hard by it.

We still have a lot of talent on the list and we certainly can impact finals if we get our injured players back (oh what 3 or 4 weeks does, we had what 1 player on our injury list 4 weeks ago), but tonight we needed to counterpunch and frankly we butchered it in front of goal. That was the game, 13 behinds kicked to 5.

The loss was to be expected.

I'd say we lost it at selection, but most of it was forced.

That was a VFL team.

Nah. We have coughed up multiple 5 goal leads this year. Some we have just managed to hang onto.
Something is wrong.
