GAME DAY Rd 13 - against the Pepper Power at the home of the G

That's a question for the channel 7 directors. Personally I think they do a poor job and often don't show replays of free kicks we don't catch live as well.
You're barking up the wrong tree TBR. They were looking at the same footage as us, thats why they said "looking at this angle, we can see..."

You thought it was cold at the G! I thought it'd be a great idea to take a French backpacker down the Great Ocean Road that day!

Got a text from my brother at the game: This kid Cotchin's a player.
Me: Told ya. (lost a finger to frostbite taking glove off to type that)
What about 10 years back we beat Hawks in rain Saturday afternoon game?

Be a massive TV audience tonight. If you asked Richmond to choose between 30k at the MCG on Saturday arvo to play Port or huge exposure on Thursday night TV I think we'd choose the latter.

They don't pitch to sponsors with crowd numbers ahead of TV ratings.
I don't have the option. Well a live game on 7 is going to have higher rating than a fox only one. Don't need to work for McCann Erickson to know that.

I don't buy the ARC see different footage. I think they stuffed up, went off half cocked. If we'd lost by a kick there would have been a big hoo ha.

edit, just watched the replay, ARC say "looking at this angle, we can see the ball deviates after making contact with the goal post, decision on the scoreboard".

"this angle" was the footage we were looking at, forget the ARC seeing other footage, didn't happen. And you couldn't see that the ball had deviated from that, nowhere *smile* near it. The waters were muddied by the fact Gibcus and Allir collided with the post and made it wobble, thats obvious, but if its obvious to me, why not the pros who are getting paid to sort this out? Farce.
Agree with everything except the hoo ha if we'd lost. Would have been mentioned and moved on.

Just on Shai, I didn't like what I saw today. He's been playing a relatively selfless game the last few years, but I saw some very selfish passages of play in his game tonight and I didn't like it.
There was one play in the last when he weaved his way through a pack about 30 out, was about to snap on his left, and you could see him think "must do team thing", so he looked for a handball that wasn't there and we lost the ball.

Stars do brilliant things. They can look selfish or lairy when they don't come off. Shedda's over the head handballs look like extravagances when we're struggling and they don't come off. Shai will kick 6 in a final one day. Unless he's corralled into handballing backwards to be less selfish.

V North Hobart 2016.
That was the night I introduced @Dyer'ere to shrooms. He cooked me dinner and gave me a Grigg and I insisted we go out. "Not looking like that," he sneered at my vintage Tiger logo hoodie, wheeled out a clothes rack and dressed me to the vintage nines from his own personal curated collection. We cruised up Sydney Rd, looking a mile wide and soft neon to us in our respective states, like the Vegas strip on amyl accompanied by a jazz sax. Something between Raoul Duke/Dr Gonzo, Sinatra/Dean Martin, Vladimir/Estragon, Bert/Ernie.

We hit Lily Black's and had a hell of a night. Jack had to go at some point and tried to convince me to come with, but I stayed until stumps, until the cocaine dealers began speculating amongst themselves whether I was a cop and if they could take me. I thanked them for the evening and walked home through the Fitzroy Gardens.

I can't remember if it was cold.

Pretty scrappy game tonight.

We were good early, lost our way in the 2nd when they seriously got on top at the contest. It was about the only time in the game where they were well on top, but defensively we did well.

We wrestled the contested game back in the 3rd and 4th and dominated both. Poor ball use was the only thing stopping us blowing the game open. Jack and Shai both butchering opportunities on a number of occasions.

Just on Shai, I didn't like what I saw today. He's been playing a relatively selfless game the last few years, but I saw some very selfish passages of play in his game tonight and I didn't like it.

Juddy looks like he belongs at this level which was good. Balta is a backman, he was much better back and was much better on Marshall.
Soldo - I just don't see where he fits in. Didn't give us 1st use out of the ruck, so whats his role? 56% TOG is a killer when we need to rotate older players more.
Shedda - Won't be playing on next year. If this is his role, MRJ will be playing it next year IMO. Rotate Shedda and Lambert as sub for the rest of the year??
Endorse nearly all your comments. Bolton's whole attitude tonight infuriated me. Seemed to be just having a laugh ... that could have cost the game. Same for Jack; disgusted by his smartarse actions like attempted dribble goals. Is he playing for the team still or his legacy highlight reel? And Sheds with his blind over the head backwards HBs - to the opp!

MRJ ( btw) should improve but just now, seems to have no presence in the air. So small too. A forward must be able to compete aerially; otherwise just become an easy rebound player. Compare Stengle MkII; quite strong overhead for his size.

It looked nasty MCR, but it is really hard to say without being on the spot. You don't automatically go downstairs and get the pen and paper out for a knock to the head, there's a range of things you work through to get to that point.

They had time to work through that stuff during the time patching them up and they both will have been absolutely clear on all measures, so you don't go into the next phase.

One thing I would say though is I would unequivocally back the competence, judgement and professionalism of the medical staff involved and anyone who thinks they know better from a distance is a fool.
Absolutely. The problem is there's flaws in the system. 1. If the initial tests were conducted independently, no one would be questioning it. 2. Also, you could argue the rules should be changed so it doesn't create a difficult situation. Perhaps a player ruled out with concussion should be balanced by the other team benching a player?

Not there tonight as on holidays.

From the posts, and from the little I saw in a pub and heard on the radio:

Umpires were inconsistent . . . wow, surprised

Our skills were not up to scratch . . . yet another surprise

The ARC made the situation worse . . . gee, the surprises keep coming

Small crowd on a Thursday night, and they were expecting . . .

But I did see a couple of things. I saw Shai miss in the last quarter from maybe 25 out on a slight angle, really, that sort of shot should just be slotted by an AFL player. I looked up his stats and he kicked 0.5. Bad return from Shai tonight, needs to do better.

But the most interesting thing was the stat I always look at - percentage of inside 50s which led to a scoring shot: Richmond 34% and Port 31%. They are really low numbers, sounds like the defence was on top for both teams and also that forward entries by both sides were bad.

We won the inside 50s comfortably, but only won by 12 points, and it was only the second quarter where we lost the inside 50s. Contested possessions even, we won hitouts but lost clearances (happens too often).

Clearly need to work on basic passing skills, forward 50 entries, winning clearances. That is a lot to work on really.

Still, good to get the 4 points.

Jab Watson said "thursday night games cater for a television audience"

probably the only thing I've heard him say and thought he's mostly right ..
It was the least annoyed I’ve ever been by him during a game.
Actually the commentary wasn’t that bad all night. Wasn’t too much barracking against us.

Bank the win move on after quarter time we we're totally different team horrific our skills and composure school boy stuff we would been blown away against a top side.Thought selfishness crept into Bolton and Jack at times and sometimes we we're to cute.Besides Baker who stepped up out of our core group the rest went walkabout.Fade outs happen again and is a big worry.

Coaching was great and selection committee The move of Gibcus and Balta should have come early ,Soldo playing was a mistake and both him and Nank getting beaten by part time rucks ,Tarrant was horrible for 3 qtrs better last qtr , but gez he looks a liability at stages rather Miller get games .Not seeing the love for Hugo poor skills at times.

It was clearly a point. Clearly hit the post, I can’t believe people are carrying on about that one.

I thought the ump had paid a free to Gibcus (whistle went before the ball went through) and was checking if it was a goal for the advantage. Once it was a point I thought it would then be Gibcus free. Not sure why it didn’t happen that way.
