Thankfully the winds have died down here for the moment. Our CFA pager went off at 5am for a fire authorities believe was deliberately lit. An old wooden railway bridge blazing. My husband has just raced off to another fire now. It will probably be suss too. 9.40pm, little wind and not coming from the direction of the big fires, no lightning, very cold night.

Thanks KittKatt. Thankfully we haven't had any wind here for a couple of days but things are expected to get hairy again soon. I'm concerned for Healesville today and hope weather conditions change before too much damage is done.

Gee That crowd looks pretty good tonight. People are just fantastic when they se the big picture. Go Australia

Have travelled the globe and seen many odd things but to deliberately cause this sort of destruction leaves me numb and confused.

My heart and soul goes out to you and your family Rosy and all those affected by the tragic fires. it truly is a life changing event.

Will never ever get up Richo for any silly things he does..........(well maybe never.....ok just once or twice)

....Hang tough you guys

Two things I really love about this. Firstly you smell the insanity appeal on this one coming a mile away.

Secondly, for a guy who's first love is Mother Nature, he (allegedly) sure knows how to respect her.

G'day all, just back from 7 + days up in the fires with the Army and some not so pleasant tasks.
Just using this forum to express my heartfelt sorry and shared anguish to anyone pre-ender or associate who has been affected by this terrible incident.
Just know that the community spirit is alive and well up there and we will continue to help for as long as we can.
Cheers
Bairdy

Well done for your efforts Bairdy but I also feel distressed for you at what you've had to experience over the past week, no doubt it will stay with you for a long time... if you need to, make sure you seek out all the help that is available.

We got to go back to the remains of our home in St Andrews yesterday and it was a truly shocking sight to behold. I cannot impress upon people enough the speed and ferosity of the fire as it raced through St Andrews and Kinglake once the wind had changed and after Strathewan had already been hit... it looks like the aftermath of a nuclear bomb. I sifted through the remains of the house, trying to find anything that was recognisable and there was very little.

Thanks again to all those out working in fire effected areas - you are wonderful, strong people and your work is very much appreciated by everyone.

I agree Angie...until you have stood there and seen it, the media can really only portray maybe 10% of what it is actually like.
I'll be back there again soon, and happy to do so even if our presence alone will assist....by the way, many thanks to my work who are allowing me the time off to do this task...most of the Army you are all seeing there have volunteered to go
I hope you and your family/friends are all safe and that you hold your spirits high

Agree with that. It was the same in Canberra. Unless you see the whole picture you can't grasp how enormous the whole situation is.

You and everyone else volunteering to help are doing an awesome job Bairdy. If you're ever in Braidwood beers are on me.

Actually I think it was Leonard Cohen, Paul Kelly and Frontier Touring (the promoter)

Great to see the generosity being extended, not just by Aussies.
Reported that Pink (the singer) donated $250,000 to the Bushfire Appeal.
Nicole Kidman also put in $500,000.
I'm sure its going to take every dollar raised and plenty more to enable people to rebuild their lives. Nothing will ever replace their losses of course, but its going to be so important that we give these families support, not just in the immediate future, but it must be ongoing.

How low can some people go?
Been reported that a Female from Sunshine tried to make a claim worth 15,000 stating that her father had been killed in the fires at kinglake.Turned out to be false.

Police fire SMS

I received an SMS fire alert for tonight and tomorrow from Vic Police this arvo. I've never received one before and am wondering if everyone here got them or if they were sent out to specific targeted areas. Anyone else receive one?

They have been sent to everyone, all the mobile carriers are doing it as part of a new State initiative.
