Finals Week 1: The acid reflux games.

Don’t blame the media for asking but it’s ridiculous that both Maynard & Goodwin have made their cases publicly re the Brayshaw incident. The AFL has made their own bed here by allowing Chris Scott a soapbox on tribunal/MRO incidents for many years without ramification. The players & coaches should be told to STFU & let the officials deal with situation rather than tug at emotional heartstrings to try & influence the outcome through the media. The clubs should be at least warned, fined or suspended if they do attempt to influence outcome.
It’s weak as *smile* leadership by AFL House that we’ve got this drama laced situation that’s gradually crept into the game. Just another notch in Gil’s legacy.

In the 3rd quarter and last quarter Fritsch had 2 shots at goal and shanked both. Both times the Collingwood player on the mark did not "stand." 2 clear as day 50m penalties not given.

The media should be all over this, but they are not. Still too scared to call them out

One of the all time bottle jobs by the Dees, far better team after quarter time.
Red flags galore for the Pies out of that

69 inside 50's for 7 goals. 32 more. must be a record discrepancy for a team that lost. However, i do think Melbourne can turn it around.

Collingwood are bang average and must be very concerned, despite getting over the line.

Excellent article in The Roar about this.
Entries schmentries.
Big difference in 48m out and 25m.
Pies structure well, defend deep and have a fast open forward line.
Dees dont lead but bomb it long.

Sanderson was talking about this on SEN yesterday. He told us not to look at I50 numbers, but I25 numbers. I remember those state of origin games in the 80s in Perth, they had the 25m, and 50m arcs. Maybe we should look at that.

Why don’t 7 Plus stream AFL games ? Why is it quarantined to Suxtel and Kayo only ?

They will be from 2025 as part of the new deal

They got Scahache. And also have Ben Brown (is he injured?)
I said forwards

Mcstay at Melbourne instead of Collingwood and they win. They are super stiff with petty but basically just need a big body that doesn’t squib contests. Which is why brown and Schache don’t count and van whatever is too young at this stage.

it's a form of emotional blackmail

Maynards 'love' quotes are ridiculous - makes me wonder what they're on .. ?

The more I've looked at it I think Maynard is in trouble. After the initial attempt to smother, he twisted his body to bump.
Whilst he's already airborne, like a aerial skier, that is possible in mid air.
He should have pushed Brayshaw away or looked to protect the vulnerable player as a first thought. Given the outcome for Brayshaw, I think Maynard's finals series is done.

True. Also as we have seen too well with Rhyan Mansell, the argument of 'protecting yourself' falls on deaf ears when players are concussed.
Its finals he will get off.

I totally agree. Footballers are taught to protect themselves by bracing with their shoulders.

Could he have kept his body open and pushed him on the way down. He certainly could have but didn't. It would have opened himself up to injury.

Peak Richmond 2017-2020 would annihilate both of these teams

How the * does Collingwood win with 37 inside 50's to dees 69

if these two teams meet in the granny, ill call it now the dees will win.
If we had 69 inside 50's our score would've been 153 not 53

I've only looked at it this morning and I totally agree that he should get off.
His initial intent was purely to leap high and smother the ball.
Couldn't do much else on the way down.
An unlucky and unfortunate football collision ensued
Move on

Collingwood might not be that great but they sliced Melbourne up in that first half with teamwork and quick hands - made Melbourne look very ordinary….. was at the game - geez the Melbourne supporters are whingers…. they moan about every single free….including the obvious ones. Tough road for Dees now - Brisbane up there (if they get past Carlton)…. Take Max out of that team and they’d be absolutely rooted.

if if kept his smothering action would have been a chest to chest impact…. Can’t say how that would have ended up for either of them

Why couldn't he push him away? The choice of twisting to shoulder Brayshaw in the head was a bad choice with serious ramifications.

Not only is it finals but he is in a protected team, so yes, he will probably get a slap on the wrist with a wet lettuce leaf.

some of the media have already started the 'save Maynard' stance.
He was only protecting himself and should be clear to play

The media once again influencing the tribunal.
He choose to jump and he could've pushed him, he actually had time to twist so didn't he push instead or bumping.
Jumping is the 1st offence
Hitting Bradshaw with a pump is the 2nd offence
