If there is one person in football who somes up the pitiful AFL journalism it is ol Rosco Lyon , no doubt Rosco is a very good coach , however to be even mentioned in the Coach of the year conversations is laughable , Fly and Kingsley have achieved so much more and shock horror both their teams could actually still win the flag , something Rosco has never done and most likely never will . All we hear is what a great coaching performance it’s been , now I don’t disagree that the Saints list is not real flash, however I’m not sure Rosco re invented any players this season ?
Other coaches the bin chickens come hard for with better achievements, but good ol Rosco gets mentioned in the same breath as Clarkson, Dimma , Smith , Barassi etc etc .
Lyon has been involved in AFL footy around 40 years , been involved in 1 flag and that was as an assistant coach , not sure they exact numbers however it can’t be that far from 15 seasons for a big fat zero as Head coach.
1 thing about his coaching IMHO that he’s set his own standard too is boring *smile* style football , I remember thinking if all coaches coached like Rosco nobody would watch the game , pretty sure that started to happen and people were turning off .
Good Coach and an incredibly perfect fit for the worst VFL/ AFL club in history

Well said mate. I think Lyon's coaching has been all over the shop this year. St Kilda overachieved by making finals.

I actually think they will do better next year. There best players are young. Marshall & King are a great ruck/key forward combo. King just needs a bit of luck with injury. Marshall had a great second half of the year.
They have some young stars oin the rise. What older players were keys? None that I can really think of. They will be better defensively with more time under Lyon (whether posters like the style or not). They missed Membrey's aerial support, unsure given his situation if he will come back and be the player he was last year. But if he does it would greatly assist King.
Not sure if they are going to attract any gun free agents. But I can see them fighting for the somewhere around that 5-8 position again.
