Comparing what Maynard did to what Mansell did: if Mansell gets 3 weeks, then Maynard should get the same.
If, as is very likely with the AFL, he gets no weeks, then we know that all the stuff about protecting players from concussion is just for show. They penalise the players who are not high profile, and not those who are. They basically make it up as they go.
This will bite the AFL eventually as any defence they mount against being sued by players who have issues as a result of concussions in football, will be pulled apart on the basis of massive inconsistency/incompetence.
It is a vexed issue as this is a collision sport. Either the sport changes or we, including the players, accept that football actions will lead to concussions and the long term effects. I'm not sure the latter is feasible, you can't accept that people's lives will be destroyed as a result of their employment.
But what we are seeing here is the AFL in full incompetence mode, if they were a competent organisation then everyone would be able to predict the outcome here, they're not and we're all guessing. Plus, the media, who have their favourites have way too much influence on what will happen.
