Expect Richmond v Carlton to be postponed or the fans locked out

Can someone clarify, is there still a possibility that Thursday night's game will be canned/postponed?
Watching the news tonight, they mentioned that Gill is still considering his options.
Odds shortening by the hour that the game will be cancelled on Thursday (and the commencement of the season postponed)

Yes Space, they can do a GP and cancel it right up to the point where the players are about to run onto the ground.....
I’m guessing they won’t cancel it, but Gil just wants to cover his a**e just in case...

Maybe place some coloured cardboard cutouts to give the G a bit of life.

If they could conjure up crowd sound effects on artificial cricket broadcasts in the 1930s would think they cloud dub in crowd sounds these days. Think the telecast is a couple of seconds lag from the live action.

yes - if one club has to quarantine its players because one of its players has a positive test then yes, they won’t proceed with one club out of action.
Why not see what happens and postpone the games where clubs can't take field. In EPL fixtured games can be postponed due to weather a played at a later date. We might only get 12. Rounds eventually completed but the full 22 rounds is also compromised.

I am hearing the same from a person involved in the AFL media.
Postpone seems better than empty stadium especially for 2 large supporter based teams. But postpone until when? There's too much uncertainty on if and when this virus will hit, peak, come and go, not come at all......

Good call to lock out the crowd. The amount of spit that flies when yelling at the umps is enough to contaminate 3 rows in front.

Toby Greene should be banned from playing until this blows over.

Yep, too much uncertainty so I figure the AFL will be trying to get as many rounds complete as they can and hope they don't have to pull the plug at some stage.

Also, the TV rights contract would specify the number of games so there are big issues there.

Yeah no doubt the lawyers of all concerned parties have gone through the contracts many times. Who knows, the AFL might be waiting for the government to say "No games" rather than call it themselves to avoid a big financial hit

Lucky the players didn't lobby hard for their pay deal to be a slice of AFL revenue. Oh, wait!

I say let the Tigers/Carlton game proceed then on Friday morning cancel the rest of the rd 1 games....

I love footy more than just about anything but I have zero sense of excitement whatever they do now.
Actually feel pretty sad about it all.

Personal opinion? I don't think they should play.
I hope common sense prevails & they postpone the game this week.
