Yes Italy's official death rate is sitting at around 7.6% of total cases. They do have quite an ageing population.

Mortality rate will depend also on capacity of health systems. Many who enter ICUs recover. If ICU is at full capacity and people don't get in, more will die.

Wonder about all of this Virus thing in Australia.

So far as at today, only 199 people have contracted the virus and according to figures I saw today some 40% have recovered.

Also, only three persons have died from that virus, sad though that is.

More people die DAILY from other diseases than the total of 199 to date.

Just asking. Is this an over reaction?
The spread of the virus is ahead of the hospitalised / known cases.
Say there are 241 positive tests in Australia today.... how many people are infected but not feeling sick yet? In 14 days we will know.
Typically for this pandemic there is a large unknown quantity of infected but not tested people - these people are the reason public events are shutdown.

This is a good indepth look at the numbers.

"Crucially, these true cases weren’t known at the time. We can only figure them out looking backwards: The authorities don’t know that somebody just started having symptoms. They know when somebody goes to the doctor and gets diagnosed.

What this means is that the positive test numbers today show you what authorities knew, and then in 2 weeks the numbers what was really happening.

On January 21st, the number of new diagnosed cases is exploding: there are around 100 new cases. In reality, there were 1,500 new cases that day, growing exponentially. But the authorities didn’t know that. What they knew was that suddenly there were 100 new cases of this new illness."

USA has 300 million people
It has 1 million hospital bed
If 1% need to be admitted to hospital that 3 million people.
That’s how you put strain on the medical system.

1) In a lockdown all necessary businesses stay open. Industry, petrol stations etc. Now footy isn't crucial, but I can't specifically see why it can't try to keep going and give us something positive to talk about.

2) The other issue is teams quarantining when someone gets sick. That will really stuff some teams. However, I think we press on and the cards fall where they do. No point not doing something in case you fail.

I would suggest teams divide their players into two or three groups and isolate them from each other. Of course it isn't easy, but it is quite manageable. There will be a dozen closed and empty gyms in Richmond that they can work from, and live stream meetings. Use the oval at different times, etc

If one player in any team tests positive, that's it. Game over.

There's a lot of people saying this. Where did it originate from?

Apparently Melbourne FC is separated into four different locations, presumably so that if one group goes down they can still field a team. Not sure how a team can be expected to perform at an elite level under such conditions.

Obviously there's a $25b contract at stake and they're doing all they can not to breach, but the AFL has never been good at rules on the run and I suspect its rushed attempts to keep the season alive are destined to fail.

Mikel Arteta (manager), EPL suspended.

If one player goes the rest in the team should isolate. Game cancelled. The rest follows.
