Elimination Final Game Day Thread v Lions

I am pretty sure the umpire called touched so a mark wouldn't have worked but a big punch thru for a point was all that was needed
The umpire did call touched. That said absolutely no excuse for our players not killing that ball and putting it over the line. And by the time the ball came off the pack there were 5 Richmond players around it but they all somehow managed to allow the one Brisbane player in the contest to kick a goal.

An abominable inexcusable error.

Totally gutted today. A perfect storm of lop sided and inconsistent umpiring in the first half keeping them in the game and us just not taking our moments to ice the game in the second half - which we should have done. We seem to fumble more than them throughout the game, but our endeavour was very good. The score review was just a joke and then the footy gods killed us at the end with us hitting the ball straight to that tool daniher, when we had the situation covered. Unbelievable and just nor a fair result. But that's life.
Well summed up. Flat as a pancake today, we could have gone further. The Prestia injury definitely would have made it unlikely from here...

I'd let it go before I left the Gabba. In fact I reckon I let it go at half time when snake told me Dion had done a hammy. It would have been nice to go another week but that's as far as we would have got. Clean trade of our first pick for Taranto, bada bing bada bap bada boop, where are the iced vovos.

You think Giants will accept just pick 11 (12 after Ashcroft bid) for Taranto?

Reckon there was a bit of hubris surrounding us in the lead up to this game. Probably not from the club but certainly from supporters and the media. Everyone was pumping up our form and they were all down on Brisbane. I am never more nervous about a game than when we are basically declared over the line. That was what it was like in the lead up to the game.

The reality is that our form was not as good as it might have looked. The Lions thrashed us in the first half at the G but it was a great effort to turn it around in the second half and win. Then we had wins against Port whose cue was already in the rack and we smashed Hawks and Bombers who are both really rubbish teams. Before the Lions game we had blown unloseable games against the Suns and Roos and got a draw against Freo in a game we clearly should have won given the Balta and Cumbo errors at the end. Just before that we had a scrappy win against a 2-20 Eagles team at the G.

Not sure about next season. We have unearthed some good youngsters such as MJ, Sonsie and Gibcus. Miller has done well and Ross looks more comfortable. But our defence leaks like a sieve and appears very shaky too often. Our stars are either gone or a year older. What will happen with Dusty?

We need to really bolster the midfield and need to find another KPF and KPD. Interesting to see which way it goes.

Yep. They need to get a million bucks off their list.

Sydney accepted just pick 14 for Tom Mitchell.
Hope you're right; that'll be a good result. I just think back to what we paid for Prestia and it was a lot higher than pick 12/13. Giants got 2 first rounders out of Bombers for Shiel.

But yeah the salary dump will help lower the price you'd think. Still think the Giants opening gambit will be 12/13 and 19.

I'm gutted BUT we could have still won that even with the ARC controversy. Ball in the air 3 vs 1 in the goal square - Kill Ball, Win Match. It was that simple and we did not execute when it mattered.

You cannot send boys on a mans errand. This was tough finals football & where was George Soldo & Graham sitting in the stands.

We paid pick 6 for Dion because that's what we had. If we'd had a better year in 2016 and had pick 12 he would have cost pick 12. The earlier pick was compensated to a degree by also getting pick 24 back off the Suns in exchange for our 2017 second-rounder, which we reasonably expected to be later after an improved yer - it was (pick 38).

My hatred for Matheison grew last night, didn't think that was possible. You wouldn't have seen most of it on telly but his staging and appealling for frees is unbelievable, he has no shame. Will vigorously appeal for a free when someone brushes past him when the ball is dead, at one stage he sped up to try and time a collision with our trainer to get a free as RM was coming on and the Trainer was running off, because the ump happened to be close and watching. Trainer was a wake-up to it and barely clipped him and called him a f-wit and appealed to the ump to suggest the same, ump didn't respond. What a goose.

Fair enough. Still think we will have to give up more than just 12/13. A later pick or a fringe player. But that would be okay with me; just as long as it is not 12/13 and 19. Taranto is not worth that.

George would be good for them.
