Elimination Final Game Day Thread v Lions

Tonight’s game was a reflection of the season; good in patches within games, but ultimately the inability to keep composure and make good decisions in key moments has prevented the Tiges from being able to close games out that they used to win.

No doubt people will be lambasting player efforts, centre clearance work and even coaching, where as for me we just don’t have the players at the moment.

The team is already in transition and we can’t expect first year players to perform without mistakes in the cauldron of finals footy, where we’ve seen many senior and even heralded players flop.

I am however looking forward to at some point In the future no longer resigning myself to a loss whenever we are less than a goal up with under five minutes to go.

For as soon as Lynch missed the sealer I was certain that the Lions would run the ball back down the other end and kick a goal to win, which they did.

Tonight summed up our season. Another close loss at the dying stages of the game.

While I agree it’s staggering. Are you really surprised? The afl can’t get anything right. It’s a crooked game, has been for a while and we all know it.

Yeah theres no other way to dice it.

Unless they have secret wimbledon line post top laser beam technology they wont share, they contradicted their own stupid rules; need conclusive evidence to overturn an umpire decision

Which is what they do.

They meet themselves coming back in the contradiction and inconsistency stakes

Lynch doesn’t have a left foot, he never ever uses it on that angle and it’s cost us the game. How hard is it to learn to kick a goal on the left from 3 metres out?

Not to mention that I think most people would say it is a much harder kick from that distance when you launch the ball 45 metres.

Should be a simple controlled kick, get as close as you can to the mark, one step out and steer it.

Early stages of the last qtr.
Lynch vs 31 the umpire blows the whistle.
99% of the people watching know its a hold on Lynch..
But no it's a free kick to 31.
How many 50's did they miss for us??

Dus

Dustys return stuffed Cumberland up I reckon the kid didn't know what to do.

Gibbus has been poor for weeks and weeks and should've been out of the side to be honest his end to the season could be more detrimental than positive for his confidence.

Ross was good, Moju was good aside from some poor kicks which ended up being costly but the lad was probably spent after that first half.

Miller also didnt settle tonight.

Sonsie started slow then got into it.

Baker was *smile* poor tonight
Sonsie had 2 disposals in the 2nd half. 8 effective disposals for the game. He's young, deserves some slack but shown out under finals pressure tonight. Great experience for him though.

Except for the 2nd quarter, Sonsie was poor. Junior had some great moments, but kicked terribly. I hope they will be stars, but they didn't star tonight.

Gibcus was woeful.

I don’t blame him. First year player. Nank was a total liability tonight. A lot of clearance work loss can be attributed to him specifically

Just a sensational game of footy, one of the best finals matches ever I would reckon. Shame there had to be a loser and shame it was us.

Sums up our season in a way, didn't take our chances in close games and it cost us a genuine premiership shot.

Going to be hard watching the next few weeks knowing we should be there, but the game is in great shape, the new rules are flying and if tonight is any indication it will be a magnificent finals series.

And next year has plenty of promise.
The new rules aren't flying when it's so loud that you can't even hear the umpire say "stand" and they ping you for a 50 meter penalty.

I think Dimma will know that you can't contend without being good defensively and its the same reason why Essendon lose every final. Hopefully we become more defensively geared next season

They know they’ve got us by the balls because we love the game. I’d stop watching if I had any dignity. :p

I thought Balta probably played one of his worst games for us too tonight. He couldn't spoil the ball forward, he kept missing it or his punches went backwards. Really poor performance
Yep. Lost count the amount of goals we conceded because he didnt impact the contest and ball went straight over the top to a Bears player
