Dylan Grimes JDM

But where is our development of our next generation wingman?

Who in our 2nds is 6'3", can mark well overhead, has good break-away pace, and can kick the ball 60-70 metres into an open forward line?
His name's Ben Griffinator, he's currently filling in for our out of form CHF and backing up the ruck division. Bit taller than 6'3" but he's got the rest covered.

Nathan Gordon.

We don't have one. This is where we need to be looking at the market.

Will Hoskin-Elliott would fit the bill, wouldn't he?

Hasn't got the break away speed, but Lennon has the other bases covered.

Why the discussion about Dylan as a wingman?

What he needs to do is lift his performance in the position he is playing or he is out when Rance recovers.

Tend to agree, given Astbury's form. I'd rather some younger guys who have played midfield in the 2nds get a shot on the wing over Grimesy.

Wow, grimes has gone out of favor quicker than Will Thursfield.

Not sure about out of favour, more that he's definitely behind Rance and Astbury, and Chaplin isn't going to get dropped. Grimes is the odd one out.

Grimes can play small. Indeed, he'll benefit from it. If we had Rance back this weekend Grimey would take Breust. He's missed a lot of footy. Give him time, with continuity he will remind us all why he's so highly rated.

I've never really seen Grimes as a key defender. I see him as more the type who keeps either Batchelor or Dea out of the side. Dea's injured and even on his worst day I think Grimes is a better option than Batchelor.

Unfortunately I think we are seeing multiple injuries finally catching up with Dylan. Not quite the player he was. His hamstrings have not been kind to him. His endeavour is the same but the merciless game that is AFL does not allow for bodies that have battled chronic injuries over a sustained period. It finds you out very quickly.

Hoping it isn't so, SSS, but building a sense that this indeed may be the case. That said, i will give Grimes until season's end to gauge how he is travelling.

I haven't seen any evidence that his mobility has diminished. He looks as quick and agile as ever. His problem right now isn't body, it's mind IMO.

Bruest would towel Grimes at ground level.

Was very concerned by that instance in the 3rd Qtr when he was heading towards goal but then hesitated and gave off the handball. (From memory we nearly stuffed it up and he might have got it back a little while later). It wasn't a good look though.
I've been a fan of this bloke since his first few games when he was great as a spoiler but a bit reluctant to actually take possession. He improved in that as he played more games and I was so looking forward to having him back fit and set for this and many seasons of good defence.
But that summed up for me a real insecurity and/or lack of confidence. Bite the bullet Grimsey - keep running and kick the bloody thing long.

It's a cowardly mindset infecting virtually the entire team at the moment. Over and over we see players propping, hesitating, going sideways or backwards searching for a cheap, easy, insignificant release. Handing over responsibility for executing to someone else, instead of grasping the moment and taking responsibility for finishing a piece of play themselves.

He made the one positive move forward early in the game, then he suddenly remembered what side he was playing for and didn't do it again.
