Perverse amusement. They really are a very angry and irrational bunch.
A couple of characters on here would fit in there seamlessly. Fortunately, they are a vast minority.
I don’t get it. If Dylan didn’t get a shove then that was an easy spoil.
The Age is reporting that a 39 year old man has been arrested in relation to making death threats against Grimes and his family. This is so sad someone could act like this.
Victoria Police have arrested a Frankston man for allegedly making vile threats on social media towards Richmond premiership defender Dylan Grimes.
The arrest was made on Monday after the alleged abuse towards Grimes – who is with the Tigers in a hub in Queensland – escalated to the point where he made a complaint to the police as he was concerned about the wellbeing of his family.
Grimes made it clear on Sunday he had become the target of vicious social media abuse after the Dreamtime in Darwin match, when he was paid a free kick after Essendon forward Jake Stringer pushed him in the back, resulting in an Essendon goal being overturned.
A concerned Grimes contacted Victoria Police when he received threats that had him concerned about the safety of family. Richmond supported his action.
In a statement police said they arrested a 39-year-old who was bailed to appear in the Magistrates Court on May 4, 2021.
"Police executed a warrant at a Frankston address on Monday 24 August as part of an investigation into alleged online harassment," the statement said.
"Detectives arrested a 39-year-old man and charged him with stalking, using telecommunications device to menace, making threat to commit sexual offence and other charges.
"He was bailed to appear before Frankston Magistrates' Court on 4 May 2021."
Grimes said he was disappointed that the incident during the game had escalated to the point that this was necessary and said he was relieved Victoria Police was able to help protect his family.
"The severity and pointed nature of these threats went way beyond what I would call normal post-game banter with this individual, so much so that we were concerned for the safety of my family back home in Victoria," Grimes said.
"Honestly, I am disappointed that this has escalated to this extent. I'd really like to move on from it and get back to focusing on footy, but at the same time I also encourage people to continue to call out this kind behaviour. It's not right for anyone, including players and their families, to have their safety threatened."
Tigers CEO Brendon Gale said the club backed Grimes in calling out the behaviour.
"No one should have to tolerate this, and as an AFL industry, we need to continue to unite, educate, call out and stamp out this ugly, abusive behaviour," Gale said.
"Dylan has taken an important stand on an issue that is simply unacceptable."
The AFL's MRO charged Grimes with staging, however he is appealing that decision.

Richmond can confirm that Victoria Police have arrested and charged a man with several serious offences, following extreme threats that compromised the safety of Dylan Grimes and his family, after last weekend's game against Essendon.
The Club commends Grimes for calling out this type of abuse and will continue to support both himself and his family.
Richmond continues to stand with its players, and the broader community, on the issue of online abuse – it has no place in our game, or our society.
“Firstly I want to thank Victoria Police for their assistance with this matter, and for promptly protecting the physical safety of my family while I am away," Grimes said.

As this matter is now before the courts, Grimes and the Club will not be making further comment at this time.
