Dylan Grimes JDM

Bloody oath Zipps.
Agree with you.
You make threats to kill in person ‘jail’
The anonymous gutless ‘keyboard warriors’ nothing happens , but their accounts closed, wrap on the knuckles, membership cancelled.

Woopy doo.

These people ( most of them ) would never say boo to your face and most accounts are fake.

What’s going on with people & the world ?????
The correct new term is keyboard cowards ... don’t ever associate them as a warrior

Yeah. Footy isn't life or death, but it is big business. Dylan Grimes was right to say that it's a game we play/watch for fun, even if it is business for clubs and players . In social media low stakes become high stakes, and nuffies can just message players/celebrities directly leading to this idiocy. I'm confident Dylan has enough maturity and self-integrity not to be too bothered by it but it still is pretty unpleasant and could have more serious effects on vulnerable people.

The stuff that players, umpires, media and anyone else involved in the game have to put up with via social media is a disgrace, as it is in social media in general.

There's a few posters expressing outrage here though that could do well to assess their own behaviour online. It might not be on the death threat level but some of the stuff posted on our game day threads is almost as distasteful and certainly has similar potential to cause hurt.

What makes people think they have the right to publicly call someone weak or pathetic or cowardly or any other form of character assassination because they don't like their performance in their job? A job that is so difficult only a tiny percentage of people ever get to do it.

Some stints at the mirror required.

Well said Richo.

PRE has got better from what use to happen early days and even as late as a year ago.

Has its moments.

You sometimes want to post something but you often think that isn’t the right thing to post and say.

Some posters have disappeared and have never returned because of it.

Sometimes it’s not worth posting.

I too ( and it’s not about me but just an explanation ) walked away from PRE, from posting, from FB , Instagram etc because of what I term ‘ cowards ‘. I’m not perfect either. I’ve allowed myself to be drawn in a heated discussion, tit for tat.

I think we just have to consider whatever we say, write or imply has to be measured and considered.

I look at it this way. Would I like something said to myself or my family, the people I love & care?

Take a step back. Replay what are going to say or write , consider it if it’s right or wrong ( or leave it be ) before you do or say anything.

You also have to ask yourself would it change their opinion.

Is it better to just walk away, step away from the keyboard?

i dont think i have seen any decent footage if the push yet. if everyone is judging from the views i have seen then they are just having a sook.

Footy enables us to feel and release a host of emotions, which especially now is so important to our mental health, but when people go way over the top, they should be called out. Great work from Grimes. On the front foot to stamp this crap out of our game/society.

And this is exactly what happens when any media creates hype, drama & excessive hate towards an organization or individual. It normalizes bullying & abhorrent behaviour like this.

The agenda against our club & its players must stop NOW. afl & its media - u r officially accountable if any harm or mental health fallout occurs from this abuse. Protect our club & players the same u have to indigenous players & T.harris when they copped similar *smile*. Enough is enough

At some point the AFL media need to take responsibility for the general hostility and hysteria that has become the language of our football commentary.

We have people like Mark Robinson calling players douchebags, Schwarz calling players boofheads, Kane Cornes' entire media career, and then there's just the fact that pretty much every footy show on television, radio and online is designed to scrutinise, criticise and muckrake.

This 'attack the player and judge their character' focus of our footy media has become the default of our off field communication. Our passive voice is judgement.

It is only natural that this escalates with the punters online. It's the media setting the tone.

Great words.
Instead of abusing players, umpires et al, enjoy the game for what it is. At times breath taking skills, the ability to kick to position.
I'm over players being called cowards because they don't want to get needlessly injured. Getting injured means that they can't play for weeks and we would miss their skills.
Richmond is now a winning club, with a winning culture. We need to display the same traits. \Unfortunately I can't stop needling Essendon supporters. I know I need to do better.

Agreed, from what i've seen there was a push by Stringer into Grimes' back. Perhaps contact was exaggerated, but hardly more "excessively" so than many other incidents throughout this year. How do they measure whether its excessive or not anyway? I presume it follows other AFL methodology, in that the definition is made up on the fly.

Its a shame that Dylan's legacy is likely to be tarnished by this long term. Just hope it doesn't affect him on field as we're going to need him at his best if we're going to be a chance this year

Yet no one in the media or radio ( thus far ) has mentioned anything but have highlighted/shown his apparent ‘dive ‘ , Vlaustins ‘fake ‘ free & Lynch apparent ‘ king hit ‘ of Hurley.

Over the top reactions? You betcha ya.

Consistent ? Yes

Fair journalism and reporting ? No

I hope it won't be but there's a chance it will be.
Meanwhile Ablett decked players 3 weeks in a row last year, and the media drool all over themselves while raving about him.

Me either, and what I did see doesn't really show excessive staging by Grimes anyway. To me he looked like he was off-balance so put his arms out to protect from the fall. I can't believe it's even being discussed. The same with Vlastuin, he put his head back as a natural reaction. There was no excess in it. It's up to the umps to decide on what they see, not how a player acts in the situation. Gotta say though I am loving this hate Tigers at all costs attitude. Reminds me of the old times when were were thoroughly hated in our best era ever.

It is happening at all clubs.

Yet again all of these stories are about the media and the numbnuts they employ trying to be the centre of attention. No concern for Vlastuin, no concern for Hurley, especially no concern for Stratton player who copped an elbow to his face.

No, this is all about journos trying to be the centre of attention.

Richmond is the biggest club in the country (are we at 100K yet, only a couple of hundred off the other day?) and attracts attention. Just hope they have the support in the hub so our players, coaches and staff can ignore this drivel for what it is.

Just watching Adelaide-Geelong, there's staging everywhere. The whole league needs to be fined.

Our own Richo needs to step the *smile* up. When they showed the replay he was uuhmming and uuhrirng about the push. Should have put the buffoon commentators in their place and said definite free kick and move on. His overcompensating commentary really gives me the *smile* and I hope he doesn't commentate on our games.

Been saying that about Richo for a while. Maybe someone from the club needs to replay some of this to him, and let him make the call. I assume he can request that he not be given Richmond games to cover.
